I'm not much of a fan of Strawberry Shortcake. Is it possible to sub it for something else? I'd hate for it to go to waste.

I believe the only way to get an alternate dessert is if you have a food allergy, and it's noted on your reservation. Many years ago, a member of my party received a bowl of vanilla ice cream due to her strawberry allergy.

I wonder if you can tell the server ahead of time to just not bring you any, if no one else in your party will eat it.

We did this on our honeymoon. When the server came to take our drink order, I politely explained that neither one of us were fans of strawberry shortcake, and was there the possibility we could substitute something else like ice cream? She said yes, and rather than bringing the shortcake we each got a little mini sundae with vanilla softserve, sprinkles, and a cookie.

They're not serving turd pie. Is it really such a hardship to go to a fixed menu, AYCTE meal and eat the strawberry shortcake dessert?

Is there a level of problems above first world problems? We might need one.

DH and I don’t really like strawberry shortcake either, but when we went last year I didn’t think to ask the server not to bring it. I ate some of just the cake part and it was really good.

LOL. I tend to agree. If I didn't like the fixed menu I would either a) not eat there or b) skip the offering that I didn't care for. I wouldn't even have thought to ask for something else, because well, it's a fixed menu and I knew that going in.

Yes, you can & you are on vacation paying $60 for a meal. You seem like a nice person who knows how to use manners when making a request, so go for it!

So rude! The OP didn't say could I throw the strawberry shortcake on the floor & demand creme brûlée... lighten up!!!

OP, my son is gluten-free, and each of the three times we went there he was always given a special brownie. Maybe with ice cream, too- I can't remember that part. But I remember the brownie because he doesn't like chocolate, so I always got it.

I feel your first world pain because I don't like strawberry shortcake, either. :eeyore:

I seem to recall hearing that Trail's End shares a kitchen with HDDR so whatever they serve for dessert can probably be served at HDDR.
FWIW I wuvvvvvv the shortcake at HDDR but realise it's not for all.

Normally I'm not a fan of strawberry shortcake desserts, but the one at HDDR is actually really good, OP. (In case some of the rude comments on here have persuaded you not to ask, which I hope is NOT the case. There's never anything wrong with a polite request. That's totally different than an entitled tantrum.) And if you do ask, and they say 'no we can't sub,' which is not going to happen btw, but let's just play along for a moment, I think I would request then that they not bring it to you (if the whole table is in agreement). You're right that it would be a shame for it to go to waste.

If you ask nicely and early I'm sure they would accomodate. My family dined there this past Monday and my DD does not eat much meat and nothing "on the bone" like the fried chicken and ribs. She asked our waiter if there was a vegetarian option and he gave her three choices. She asked if she could have a small amount of two of the choices (pasta with red sauce and grilled veggies), he brought her a large serving of both AFTER he had served the set menu to all his tables. She was appreciative and thanked him.

Thanks for all of the positive comments. I'll be sure to ask.

The serving of the strawberry shortcake is part of the show so any alternate dessert would have to be served after.
