I have booked HDDR for our upcoming trip (we leave tomorrow :cool1: ) but my friend who I am going with has heard that it is unsuitable for children under 11 - I don't want to go to something our children won't enjoy - we will be travelling it 2 princesses aged 4 and 5 - should we go or would we be better off giving it a miss.

????? I am surprised to hear someone say it's unsuitable for under 11, this is Disney after all. My DS really enjoyed it, he was 5 when we went. He loved the food, and the singing, dancing and corny jokes were right up his street. I know that people mention that La Nouba in DTD might be difficult for a young kid to sit through, perhaps your info was mixed up with info about that.

I was at the hoop-dee do last fall with my two year old and she had tons of fun. The show is fast paced with lots of things going on and she was amused all of the time:dance3: . I was at a table attached to the stage and the actors spent allot of time paying attention to her and she didn't get upset once. I think the show is good for anyone and wouldn't hestitate going back.

Enjoy :goodvibes

This is absolutley not true. I don't know who would see this show and think that children under 11 would not have a great time there. My dd has been amny times and she is only 5. She talks about it all the time and when we book a trip the first thing she asks is if we can go to Hoop Dee Doo again. My youngest is going to be 2 1/2 this trip and she loved the show the last time she saw it. The humor is fun and cute and totally appropriate for this age group and the cast is very enjoyable and interactive. I think your small children will be fine unless they have issues with noise and laughter.

Agree with all of the posters, MyDGD was 4 the first time she went and she loved it. There is so much going on that it keeps them entertained. She got to play a wash board at the end too.

My DD's first trip to HDDR was when she was 6. My cousin was with us with her 10 year old son. They had the BEST time ever. My son saw it when he was around 4. He loved it too, but not as much as the 6 and 10 year old. He was just a "wee bit" too young, but CERTAINLY he had a great time there--just couldn't appreciate the humor as much as the older kids.

I'm wondering what place your friend has mixed up with HDDR.

My youngest was nine when he first saw it, and we once took friends who had a 7 year old. Both kids thought it was great! The seven year old laughed so hard and loud, she had the cast giggling!

I'm taking my grandson (he's 10) in June. I can't wait, because I know he's going to have a ball!

Saw the show last year with DS's ages 9 & 7 and I don't think my DH and I ever heard them laugh as much as they did. It was a lot of fun. At the end of the show I remember every table getting a washboard and the kids could take their silverware and strum along. We had a wonderful experience. In fact my DS's wanted to see it again on our trip in August and we are. By the way we are on the DDP and for us it's worth the 2 TS credits.

We went in Nov. when my dd's were 4 & 6. They loved it! My youngest wanted to go up on the stage. You will all have a great time! If your girls don't like the food they are serving you can also for something else. We had mac & cheese for the girls but they did end up liking our chicken too. Also my dh and the kids had plain ice-cream for dessert.

Kids love the HDDR!! they get to bang on a washboard at the end of the show and makes lots of noise, plus the show has lots of corney jokes. My DGF little sis was 7 and loved it!

I am happy to see all the positive reviews. I was debating between this one and the other shows (Spirit of Aloha/Mickeys Backyard BBQ).
My kids are 9 and 12, so it seems like this one would be the most fun, so I hope we can get in in August!

Thanks to everyone who took the time to answer - I was also surprised when she told me - and even more so I found out that the person who told her was the lady at the disney dining - it turns out she was trying to see if something had cleared, got talking to her and then the lady said it wasn't suitable. She really doesn't want to go because of what the lady told her so I think I'm going to take my children when I go back in June, cause it sounds like a lot of fun to me

I've been to the HDDR several times and I always remember seeing smaller children there, none of them ever seemed to be doing anything but enjoying themselves.

We ALL loved it, but especially the 6 & 7 year old, I think. We still sing, Hoop-de-doo, Hoop-de-doo, da da da da da da da da-da-da-da! We're going back next January with five kids, and I know we'll all love it!

:confused3

Never heard of that before. We just returned from our first time at HDDR and my kids are 5, 7 1/2 and 10 and they all loved it. My son was even choosen to go on stage and be the cowboy. It was a blast and fun and all kids will love this show. There was even kids younger then mine there. Just remember to bring a sweater it is very cold in the Pioneer Hall.:thumbsup2

I can think of two reasons why maybe someone would think the show is better for kids 11 and older:

1. the jokes are puns and double-entrendres, and younger kids won't get a lot of them.
2. the double-entrendres are about relationships (not sex, exactly), and I suppose maybe an orthodox Christian approach to life may be offended by it and wish for young kids to avoid it.

As for #1, my four year old was very tired and didn't get the jokes, but was enthralled anyway. So that's not a concern. As for #2, well, if you're looking to shield your kids quite so much, maybe you should be worried about any musical revue.

My kids were 5 and 9 when we did Hoop De Doo and they had a great time. DD (the 5 yr old) was a little shy when one of the performers came over and sang a song using DD's name but she thought it was great afterward. DS LOVED playing music with the spoons and washboard. It's corny, family fun IMHO.

Huh, never heard that before. Especially since there isn't much at Disney that isn't appropriate for children. We saw tons of little kids! They seem to enjoy it the most! :)
