Did you know that you can't get Level 1 seating with the DDP? That bothers me because you still have to reserve in advance like everyone else. I went ahead and booked it w/out the DDP but it still annoys me. It's feels like second class service if you have the DDP.
What do you think?

I agree... especially since we're using two credits! However, I must have been very lucky because the last time we went, we scored a table near the stage, even though we used our DDP credits. Don't know how we got lucky, maybe because there were just two of us and they seated us at a smaller table.

You can get Tier 1 with DDP, you just have to go to the latest show. For the 2 earlier shows, you can only do Tier 1 if you pay OOP.

since I'm on the deluxe dining I feel I should have been able to book the tier 1. I'm sure the 2 app that I'm not getting would make up for it.

i can kind of see why. teir 1 costs more. if they can fill it with paying customers, why wouldnt they?
not only that, but if someone wants to pay a couple hundred dollars on a meal, they should get the best seating.

Thanks for the info but it still rankles. That would be like not being seated near the aquarium wall at the CR or being stuck in the corner at Askerhus just because you have the DDP.

Didn't all the tickets used to be the same price before the dining plan? I think so, and the better seats used to go to those who booked their reservations first. I don't think it should make a difference how you are paying, if you reserve first you should be able to get the better table.

but now, it costs more to sit there. doesnt matter what it was. if i were to call at 180 days and im paying OOP i should be able to get the best seats if im willing to pay for it. it costs $60 for an adult, for my family to eat there it would cost $240 to sit in category 1 seating. if im paying that kind of money and i call at the 180 day window, yeah i could see ebing pissed that someone who isnt paying anywhere near that got the better seats and there werent any left for me.
personally i always go on the dining plan, so ill always sit cat2, and im fine with that, because over my dead body would i pay $240 for fried chicken.

It does matter what is was before, because it proves the only reason for the change is the dining plan and they just want to get more money, because they can.(that's business right?;) ) It cost 2 ts credits now and is not that much different in price from those paying oop for tier 1. People on the dining plan are paying for it too, it's not like some outrageous difference in price. If you are happy with tier 2, that's fine, myself, I would be annoyed.

Actually, they didn't do the tiered seating until 2007. We went in 2006 and sat in front of the stage, about 3 rows back. Excellent, tier 1 seats on the DDP. We went to the luau in 2007 and were seated behind a pole in tier 2, even though we called at 180 days out.

The change in the seating came about in 2007. The DDP was not cut back until 2008. I agree they are changing the DDP to make more money, but the change at HDDR was not related to the DDP cut-backs.

yup, thats business, it just makes perfect sense to me. not much annoys me.

I went in 06 on the dining plan as well and also sat in the front. The dining plan has gone through quite a few changes since then. Initially the HDDR wasn't affected, but since 08 it has been,(that I'm aware of ) why wouldn't it be due to cut-backs on the plan just like the no appetizer or gratuity?

They're not giving the seats away, OOP is 59.00/person. 2 TS are worth close to that.

DDP is definitely not the bargain it used to be. My family decided not to purchase it this year because it no longer fits our needs. (Less food and tips not included combined with my DS now priced as an adult.) I was just merely pointing out that the cuts to the DDP weren't related to the change to tiered seating.

I actually feel that tiered seating is a good thing. I would be upset to be sat behind a pole or in the back of the balcony if I had paid the same price as someone sitting right up front. It does give people a choice of how much they are willing to spend. And lets be honest... sporting events and concerts have had tiered seating for years and we have no issues with it. I do think that for the money spent on the DDP, that they should not limit those patrons to the lower tiers. HDDR at 2 TS credits is a much lesser value than many 1 TS meals. (Coral Reef and Le Cellier come to mind.)

Not trying to be argumentative :) , but why do you think the cuts aren't related? The dining plan has been evolving since it was introduced, just because the change wasn't made in a certain time frame doesn't mean it's not a cut-back. HDDR was established in 1974, since that time all seats were one price regardless of where they were located, that's 32 years, granted the price has increased annually, but all seats were always the same price. That seems like a cut-back to me.:confused3 HDDR is hardly comparable to a venue such as a sports arena/stadium or a concert where tiered seating is the norm and the seating capacity makes it warranted.
Again, I'm just curious and only stating my opinion, I'd like to hear yours!:)

I just feel that being a year apart, the cut-backs are 2 separate cut-backs. DDP has gone up again for 2009, while nothing was added. I don't consider this a part of the 2008 cut-back, but an entirely new one.

Oh, ok. I thought you said it wasn't a cut-back, period. I didn't know we were doing a year by year census, just the plan in general as it has changed .They did add the Quick Service option to the plan for 2009, and it's rumored they may cut-back on the snack options(I so hope that isn't true!!)
