Hoop De Doo Revue

Fantasmic is easy enough to see without the dinner package. Maybe if you'll be there over columbus weekend when crowds are up the package would be the way to go, but if it's at any other time of month you don't really need it. It won't save a ton of time. With the package you need to show up 30 minutes early, without we've always been fine showing up an hour early (not at super crowded times of year though). We get dinner at a quick service counter and carry it in with us to eat while we wait.

I was always under the impression that the dinner package was the only way to go if we did not want to stand in line forever, or maybe I misunderstood. So you can go on in and sit down and wait until the show begins? Okay, so DD could take her Nintendo DS inside to entertain herself and we could eat a counter service meal. Yes, now that I understand, both are do-able. Thanks so much to everyone for their help.

When will you be there? Columbus week? If so the package is probably preferable. I think you'd need to arrive at least 90 minutes prior to Fantasmic over the holiday, but they do open the seating and allow you to sit while you wait. I have never gone on a holiday and I've never done the package, though I have friends who have done both.

If it's not over the holiday you should be fine with arriving 60 minutes prior to the show. We've been during the third week of October and crowds were fairly light, very manageable. We've also been during the first week of October, a bit more crowded than the third week but still manageable. When it's not really really crowded it takes a while for the stadium to fill. The package seats are all the way to one side anyway, so what you'll get walking in without the package will be just as good if not better even if the stadium is already half full. You can take gameboy and your CS food inside, play and eat while you wait. We always do it that way. The package would save some time, but we don't want to eat at those restaurants. If they'd offer the package at Sci Fi or 50's PTC we'd do it, since we'd be eating anyway, but they don't.

I did the HDDR back in Dec 2005 with my family and we really enjoyed it. The food was good and the show was pretty funny. The cast members will interact with the audience, which can get really entertaining.

The only thing that we did not like was that our table was right up against the stage which made it hard to see parts of the show. Other than that it was a fun experience and we are planning to do it again this December.

Just a FYI. When our family went to the HDDR, a table near ours asked for a doggie bag for their left overs. They happened to be at our resort, and we seen them at the food court the next day at lunch. They had reheated to food, and I'm telling you, those ribs smelled just as good then as they had at the HDDR!!!

Sure made us wish that we had been savvy enough to have asked for a doggie bag! We had a lot left over, there would have been enough for another meal.

We will be there in October. My thoughts now are that we should try to do Fantasmic on one of the MNSSHP nights.

Good idea, THANK YOU. Neither of us will be able to eat all of the food without exploding and that sure would make it more worth the money if we don't have to waste food.

I am going to Disney with the free dining plan. For HDDR 5pm show to be included, you have to get tier 2 and it is 2 table service dinners. You guys all seemed to love the show. Is it worth tier 2 and 2 table service dinners? I made my reservation already but I am second guessing myself. Thanks

Not sure if that's a good strategy or not, I haven't tried it. I wonder though, does it mean lots of people would be at MNSSHP and therefore DHS would be less crowded? Or does it mean that because MNSSHP costs extra there are fewer people there than on a normal night and the other parks would be more crowded? One strategy I have used that has worked is to see Fantasmic on a Spectro night when Spectro isn't showing every night. If there are only a few Spectros during your week they'll draw crowds, I think, leaving DHS less crowded on those nights. I'm no expert though. ;)

My thinking was that MNSSHP would take the "heat" off of Fantasmic, but I don't know if they would even be on the same nights. We are planning on going to MNSSHP too.

They're definitely on the same nights since Fantasmic should show every night in October, barring any early closings for special events which doesn't happen often.

Maybe MNSSHP would make a good Fantasmic night. I'm curious to hear what others think. My thinking was that not everyone attends MNSSHP, unless it's a sell out night near Halloween the park is definitely less crowded for MNSSHP than it is for Spectro, at least in my experience over the last several years. That would lead me to believe that MNSSHP attendance is generally lower than Spectro night attendance at MK. If the extra people aren't at MK on MNSSHP night then they need to be elsewhere. AK closes early so that should increase attendance at Epcot and DHS on MNSSHP nights, with the exception of those sell out parties right around Halloween.

Not sure I'm right, it's just what I was thinking. :confused3

Someone around here has probably figured this out, LOL. Someone around here has figured out just about everything, no?

Even if Fantasmic is packed, I'm taking the advice of the OP who said that they eat in their seats and I'll bring my Ipod or a book and DD can play with her Nintendo DS while we wait. By the time that we sit down, our legs will be happy that we're off of them. I probably will plan to fantasmic night on a night that the MNSSHP is going on just for a cushion.

We are planning to attend the 5 p.m. show on Sunday, March 30. It's been 14 years since we last saw the show. The added bonus this year: It will be the first time for our two kids (ages 7 and 5). I believe our seats are on the upper level. How's the view from up there?

If the show is as silly and hokey as I remember, our kids are in for a real treat, assuming they'll be able to see.

We never get tired of HDDR. It's a must do for us yearly. And we have done both the fantasmic package and then just the show. It depends on the time of year you go. If your going off season I would'nt waste a TS credit on the package.

All of these responses have been so helpful. It makes me SOOO excited to try HDDR and see Fantasmic. These are both things that DH would blah about, but since it's DD and I going alone, we will be able to enjoy it more and have a great time. We will be splitting our stay between POR and WL and may try HDDR our last night. I am pretty sure I will not be using the dinner package for Fantasmic either since we can take food in and we'll definitely have stuff to occupy our time besides just resting....

Hope no one minds if I jump on this thread. I just called WDW-Dine to see if I could get a ADR for HDDR in November and the CM told me that it can only be booked 180 days out. I thought I had read somewhere that HDDR could be booked one year in advance.
Many thanks
Kim

HDDR is now 180 days out for ADRs like most other places. :goodvibes
