Okay.... I know I sound like a complete weirdo askin this question.... but here goes !!
We really want to do this Hoop de Doo place when we go in January... and I am wondering about the show.
I have this terrible fear when I go to places like this, that they are gonna call on me ( I have been picked sooo many times, and I just HATE it !!) to say something, or get up on stage or something.... do the performers interact with the audience alot ??? If so, do I need to sit a certain place to avoid this ???
Okay, I know I am weird... just ease my mind please before we go, okay !!!

The performers periodically mingle through the audience. If you are pretty outgoing and engage them in conversation, you have a better chance of being "chosen" as a performer. Our son was very talkative with one of the performers when he was younger (around 5), he was tapped to be the sheriff in the "big production". We enjoyed seeing him onstage. I think the key to avoiding being one of the few people to be involved in the production is to avoid conversation--other than polite replies--with the cast.

Most of the interaction is minor--you don't have to stand up and be the center of attention. They do a bit about birthdays/anniversaries, etc. that will get you more attention if it's your day--but again, nothing that would make most people uncomfortable.

Now, my husband is a BIG ham, he'd love to be chosen for the show! So far the cast hasn't seen his "star quality"! ;) Maybe this year will be his big break! :D

Go and enjoy the show--we rarely miss the dinner when we visit.

You arent a weirdo at all! I feel the same exact same way.
However, I love the HDD. When they go around asking where people are from I sort of keep my head down and give the impression I do NOT want to be picked. I have heard the performers are good at "reading" people and I would have to agree with that.
Definitely dont miss the show because of that. It really is a blast and there are only a couple of times where you could really be put on the spot. Ill admit, I do sort of stress during that time, but the rest of the show and the food is well worth it.

Hi,

I feel the same way. I was there in December and I found that they don't tend to just put someone in the spotlight before asking if it would be okay. This is done quietly and you would not have to refuse in front of the whole room.

I think they will ask first and if you are not comfortable you can just say "No thank you". An exception would be if you had made them aware of an anniversary or birthday beforehand. In this case I think they consider you to be fair game...

I don't think you need to worry much. This is just my experience.

Well thanks so much ya'll for easing my mind ! I am sure that we will go and everything will be just fine !

Back in 1991, my hubby and me went to the dinner show at the top of the Contemporary. It was a great show, and I thouroughly enjoyed it UNTIL the group was doing a musical number, and was singing Hello Dolly. Before the song started they started singing Wellllllll Helllllllooooo.... and came to me with the mike and expected me to say "Dolly" ...... well I couldn't think of what the song was to save my life.... so I sat there like a dope, not knowing the word they wanted me to sing !! I was sooo completely embarrassed at the time and haven't forgotten that room full of people staring at me !!!!! Aaaaack !!

I laugh about it now, but try to avoid the situations. I will just not worry about it.. and have fun !! THANK YOU for the sweet replies.
