we have done both and prefer the HDD. keep in mind if you are going in summer the BBQ is outside and it is hot in florida. we went to the BBQ in december and it was not real cold, but cool enough for a light jacket.

from what i've read on the boards, the menu at mbybbq is more extensive (heck, they have hot dogs! very important to my kids!), is buffet style (hddr is family style) and a little less expensive... we chose mbybbq based on those differences...

The food is similar--bbq ribs, chicken, coleslaw, potato salad, etc. Alas no strawberry shortcake at BBQ. You are seated at tables at HDD and served your meal. At BBQ it is long picnic tables, buffet servings, so some say harder to do with little ones. Characters are present at BBQ and fun dances for special occasions. Less of a "show" than HHD. We like both! Even on a hot August evening, didn't feel the pavillion was uncomfortable.

we HATED HDD, have never done Backyard BBQ....
hoop dee doo was so rushed....you had to chow down while the show was going all while being rushed rushed rushed...
the most awful dining experience we've had at WDW in 31 years....
but we're the only people i know who feel that way...
Backyard BBQ sounds like fun....

sorry to hear disneyholic family had such a horrible time..

we absolutely love HDDR.. we got married last feb in disney and had our rehearsal dinner there.. we didn't get the feeling of being rushed at all..

their fried chicken is to die for.. and the strawberry shortcake mmmmmmmmm..

we love the show, and it gets the crowd involved all the time enjoying a great meal..

never been to BBQ so can't help there.. sorry..
