I think I have a bit of a problem here. I'm going with my extended family to the HDDR. I see that the menu is a tosssed salad, chicken, ribs and beans.

Here's my problem. DW, DS and DD will not eat beans or ribs. DD will not eat corn on the cob.

Is there any choices, or a way to get potatoes?

Considering its 2 TS, I'm thinking of bowing out of this.

The other members will be sad (my mom has waited 30 years to go to this), but is the show that good? I can see myself buying burgers & fries after the show for my clan!

The show is awesome. We have gone to it the past two years but I am not sure I if they will serve anything else. If there is anyway for at least some of you to go I would say definitely do it-it is a blast.

We were just there 2 weeks ago, and I was able to get mac n cheese for my daughters 4 and 6. We got a huge bowl of mac n cheese for the family to share. My dd's loved the chicken and mac n cheese. They also have great corn bread and butter - which my daughters also loved.

The show is definitely worth it - we all loved it!

Unfortunately, I didn't find the show to be worth it. 2 TS is a lot of credits if you won't be eating much of the food. Their menu is very limited. I'm a vegetarian and all they could come up with for me was a big bowl of mediocre pasta with marinara sauce. Granted, I didn't make special arrangements ahead of time, but I really don't think it would've made much difference. The strawberry shortcake dessert was yummy, but the show itself just didn't live up to the hype for me.

Is there any way you could split up so as not to waste the credits on those who won't really get their money's worth? If it's your mom who really wants to see the show, you could go with your parents to it while your dw takes the kids over to the MK or one of the other MK resorts.

I have to think that your view of the show and meal is due to your being a vegetarian. The show is centered around traditional barbeque fare which includes fried chicken, ribs, etc. If you alerted the restaurant of your food preference at the time of booking the show, they would have accomodated you. I have seen chefs make amazing vegetarian meals at Boma and other Disney restaurants.

We loved this show. The food was fantastic and believe me that there is enough for your family to eat. You can get macaroni and cheese for the children if need be but don't let that stop you from going. The show is hysterical and food is great.

As a side note, I am a picky eater and enjoyed every bit of the meal.

We've been to Hoop De Doo quite a few times and it's never about the food. It's about the show which is awesome. If I can take a jaded seventeen year old male to this and he ends up playing the washboard at the end, then it's a hit. He also said the menu wasn't too his liking but we rolled him out of there. I'm a semi-vegetarian (just prefer non meats but will eat meats) and I had plenty to eat. You can ask for extras of whatever you want. I think we ate more salad than a rabbit would eat.

I guess the best way to put it is that my 77 year old father, who doesn't have one humorous bone in his body, LOVES the show and even though he's cheap, will gladly pay for this. Heck, even my husband, the biggest Eeyore in the world, loves the show.

The show is AWESOME and I would pay to see it even if they just served up some frozen pizzas to accompany. LIke most character/show meals, it's about the exp more than the menu.

We don't eat much of the pre-plated breakfast at PSB but we go anyways because we love interacting with the princesses.

You should be able to request something like mashed potatos or mac and cheese once you're there - the waitstaff have been known to be very accomodating and just slip over to Trails End buffet and get you something. But really - I don't eat corn on the cob but it wasn't a big deal. I didn't eat the ribs, either. But between salad, bread, beans, fried chicken, and strawberry shortcake - how could I have fit two more things anyways? That's a TON of food!

I hope you catch the show - it's great!

We went for our 4th time last month with a party of 8, 3 of whom had never been before, with 2 in the group being teens and everyone had a great time. We all like the food, but we didn't ask for anything special - I am not a rib person, but the chicken was great for me (DS had 6 pieces, I think - he's the really tall one in the pic!). We were celebrating my birthday, our anniversary and we lucky to have excellent seats right up front. Loved it as usual! But to us, it's not the food that makes us go, it's the fun show!

We were just there last month. I agree that the food is only a small part of the whole experience. I didn't touch the beans, and didn't really care for the ribs, but I came away full. The chicken is excellent. And the cornbread is to die for! We kept asking for more of that.

I'd check with disney dining to see if there is anyway you can put in a special request for something else. Never hurts to ask, and generally they are pretty willing to accomodate.

Or, you could skip or have a very light lunch so by the time you go to Hoop De Doo everyone is starving and will eat anything!

Go and enjoy...you won't regret it!

We are going on our last night because we've never been and thought it would be a fun way to end our trip. It will be me, DH and our 2 DD's 16 & 6. We all love BBQ foods. DH is really looking forward to this. It was his pick so I hope we have a good time.

Sorry, but you're off base here. I've had great vegetarian meals at pretty much every restaurant in WDW, no matter what the theme (steak, seafood, etc.) and never had to make special arrangements. I did mention I was a vegetarian when we booked, and they said it wouldn't be a problem. I suppose I could have called the restaurant itself 24 hours ahead and tried to make special arrangements but, like I said, I don't think it would have made much difference. I mean, I know it's a barbecue, and I wasn't expecting gourmet fare. They did accomodate me, and the food was mediocre, which is about what I expected. But even the meat eaters in my family (dh LOVES good barbecue) felt the food choices were extremely limited and the food itself was subpar (more like what you'd expect from a (not so good) CS restaurant, not a TS, and especially not a TS that costs 2 credits).

But the food is just a minor part of the HDDR experience. My main problem was with the show. I just didn't think it lived up to the hype. I was expecting something that would have me falling off my seat laughing, and it just didn't. Maybe if I hadn't read so many reviews saying it was the best show in WDW my expectations wouldn't have been so high. Maybe what I really needed to enhance the show was to have taken better advantage of the "all you can drink" feature , lol. At a place where so much good entertainment is included with the price of admission, I just couldn't see paying extra for this particular show. I say, save your TS credits for 2 really good meals, and enjoy all the free entertainment. Or, if you really want to splurge and be wowed, spring for La Nouba--now there's a show worth the extra $$$.

We are going in Sept. When I made my reservation with my TA I asked for a veggie meal and was given a menu to chose from. Don't know about the quality of the food yet but I'll let you know!

That being said, you should try it once and form your own opinion.

My DS7 has a food allergy. I called Disney dining to make sure it was listed on our reservation. They gave me a direct number to call HDDR one week before our visit. I spoke to a CM there that offered to make a special meal for him or DS4 if he didn't like what was offered. They were very nice and willing to help us. I would suggest calling the restaurant and talking with them about your meal. I am sure they will be glad to make a special order for you. Wow - it is killing me to say nice things about that place!!

I agree with this. I didn't use credits on it but I can't imagine using 2 for it. It's cute but I didn't find it something that I can say I really enjoyed.

They will let your kids order something different. Our server asked me if my DD would like something off a child's menu from another place, next door maybe? Anyway, she offered this to me before I even thought to ask. DD got mac-n-cheese. Her other options were a hot dog, chicken nuggets, and pizza I think. That was nice of our server. I will not eat meat off the bone so I filled up on salad and desert.

The family I went with to HDDR loved the show, loved the food, and plan to do it again. So, I was definitely the minority.

I say try it once and find out what you think.

I have the exact same issues with the food at HDDR. In fact, my dh hated the food. He isn't crazy about ribs, baked beans, and will eat fried chicken but it's not a favorite by any means. And dd....oh,where do I start. We had to ask for a bowl of mac and cheese for her that night. However...dd asked to celebrate her 13th birthday there. So, we'll be there, on Oct 25, at the late show..dd, myself, dd's friend who is turns 13 the day after we get home, and her mom. We'll be stuffing ourselves all day, so if we don't have huge amounts that night, I think we'll be fine. But, I have to agree...that salad is incredible, as is the corn bread. Couldn't stand the strawberry shortcake though. I'm thinking the unlimited sangria/wine will make up for any shortcomings!!!
So....the food is mediocre at best, but we do enjoy the show. It is so hokey and lame...but it still cracks us up.

Well, we really like the show, the food, and the atmosphere. We're from TX so we were raised on this kind of food and for us it was very good. The ribs are tender and in a sweet & spicy BBQ sauce. I know a lot of people that don't like sweet bbq sauce, so that may be an issue. The fried chicken is good. I heard someone say once that it wasn't any better than KFC, but we love KFC, so it works for us. The beans are again in a sweet bbq based sauce, so if sweet is an issue, beware. The corn on the cob was juicy and sweet which we all enjoy. The strawberry shortcake is the typical shortcake rounds like you buy at the store heaped with sweetened strawberries (like the ones in the freezer case) and topped with whipped cream (like the kind in a can). We liked that too, but again you may not. As others have mentioned, there's always the salad and bread, which everyone seems to agree, is good.

We like the show. The characters are talented, the songs are catchy and the jokes are corny, but my two teenage sons enjoyed it more this trip than they did five years ago. I really don't think $40 is a bad value for dinner, a show and all you can drink adult beverages. I would recommend it and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

We have seen the show twice and really enjoyed it. Our ds is a REAL picky eater and he was able to get pizza so that made him happy.

Right, as I stated in my post, there *ARE* ways and places to get good vegetarian meals. You never said in your original post that you made arrangements ahead of time. In fact, you said that you "didn't make special arrangements" so that is why I suggested alerted at the time of booking. I have been to many, many dinner shows not only in Disney and there usually is a standard menu. I have no problem with HDDR's at all. I think it is a matter of personal preference.

We loved the show and would go back again. We also enjoy La Nouba. However, if this is a group's first trip to Disney, I'd still recommend going to HDDR without hesistation. It is pure Disney fun.

We went in April and had a blast. It isn't gourmet food by any stretch of the imagination, but for what it was, it was very good. I too don't eat everything on the menu, I don't like beans and I didn't eat the corn on the cob. But the salad and bread were delicious, the ribs juicy and the chicken good.
It is more about the show. We love it It is corny and lots of fun.
You said you were going with your extended family and that your Mom has been waiting 30 years to go. It sounds to me like it is very important to her and that she will be very disappointed if you don't go. That would make if very hard for me to decide to take my family and go somewhere else that night. Only you can decide what is right for your family.
I would encourage you to go and enjoy the experience, it really is fun. You should find enough to satisfy everyone.
