Hey any of you Dis experts out there care to give me a little HDDR info before I choose to make PS or not. Like, is there any characters in that particular show? And anything else you want to share. Thanks. Im actually trying to decide between HDDR and the Luau.

We did it back in 2002 and it was so much fun! There are no characters, but the performers are great! I've heard some not so good things about the luau (including my neice who got sick), and we really enjoyed HDDR. There's a reason why it's the longest running dinner show!

Hoop De Doo is great if you like:

1) The old tv show Hee Haw.

2) Ribs with more fat than meat on them.

3) Baked beans that smell suspiciously like formaldehyde.

We have done both shows and enjoy the HDD more. Our DD is 10 and loves the interaction and we all really liked the food. I have already got our reservations for Dec 15th and we are looking forward to it. If you have children they will enjoy themselves more at the HDD. Hope you have fun and enjoy either one.

ouch, Bob! You must have had the baaad table! :)

Ours was a bit better, thankfully....but what made it the most fun was where we were sitting...we were dead center and our table was right at the stage...the players twirled my daughters hair and had to sit in hubbies lap of course....they all just ate it up! The food was tasty...not overly tasty...but better than what I could have served to 150 people at a time...the nice thing I liked was how they tried to please...my 5 year old just did not like anything...so they brought her a personal pizza ...they made a big to-do about it and was so sweet to her...it really made her smile.
but to get the good tables you have to book early! We went off season and booked about 6 months in advance....but some folks book a year in advance for regular season stays....it was a lot of fun...I'm so glad we did it..but I would not go again. And you can get alot of fun by just going to 'Ohanas...you still get the Hawaiian food and they have fun games for the kids (pushing coconuts with brooms and other things)

Bob, I would've thought you'd like this one with unlimited beer....LOL Sorry, couldn't help the dig. Oh, and whatever happened to that trip report you were going to write? How long has it been, a year? You do great reports and I kept looking for it after that teaser pre-trip you did.

We enjoyed the HDD show once, and hope to again in February. But, I like Hee Haw, fatty ribs, and I'll have to agree with Bob on the baked beans.::yes::

Hoop de doo is like a old western traveling show. Corny cowboy jokes and singing and dancing. I don't remember it having any characters. It's like dinner theatre / musical / hoe down. That's it .. kind of like a hoe down with jokes. LOL

Wellllll....I did put a big time hurtin' on the Bud Light. Gotta say though, the fried chicken is GREAT.

Dang.....I have to write last years trip report. Should I do that before I write the trip report from 2 weeks ago??????

My family loves HDDR ... every one of our trips so far has included a visit to Pioneer Hall.

My favorite part:

STRAW
STRAW BERRY
STRAW BERRY SHORT
STRAW BERRY SHORT CAKE!

Okay, I want some NOW!

We've done both HDDR and the Luau. If we were to do one again it would be HDDR. Our biggest problem was that after booking over 9 months before, we got cancelled due to Hurricane Charley and had to rebook. Ended way up on the second level on the side. Ah well...go in August and you have to expect these things (hurricanes) to happen. Could have been worse. My house could have blown away. But...I digress.

The food at both shows is nothing to write home about. The food at HDDR was marginally better than the Luau. My family doesn't usually eat ribs so that was a no go. The chicken was good, the baked beans, well...they were baked beans!!! That's all I'll say about that. The bread and the salad was good. Those two things made up my supper for the most part. Dd doesn't eat much so she asked for mac and cheese and got it.

Now....let's talk about that strawberry shortcake. We hated it. It was more like strawberry jello on some cake like substance. We have some pretty tasty strawberry shortcake here in NE, and my dh and I love the stuff. But after one bite of HDDR's strawberry shortcake we just pushed it away!!! We didn't care for it a bit. But it seems that we are in the minority here.

So. We liked the show. The food was okay. The seats were not so great but what could you do. A hurricane is a hurricane, can't argue with Mother Nature. Dd, 11, wants to celebrate her 13th birthday there. What more can I say!!!

Oh boy...do I ever agree! Maybe it's because I was raised with strawberry cakes and fresh strawberry preserves...but that was the worse tasting version I had ever had. Squishy strawberries and the cake was oh so dry. So you're not alone....I wish I could have you all over for some realll goooood strawbrery shortcake!

Thanks for the reviews but for the money involved, I think Im gonna rethink my HDDR dinner and look for something else. The reviews are mixed so I dont think I will take the chance. Maybe a character dinner or Whispering Canyon Cafe. Thanks a bunch. Hey how about throwing in some info on Whispering Canyon? Did I mispell that? LOL Oh well.

If it means more Bob NC trip reports, yes. Just think of them as Bud Lights and knock 'em back one at a time.

You just can't compare HDD with Whispering Canyon. We did both on our last trip. Loved HDD. Our waiter at WC was, well, let's just say less than enthusiastic. Your experience at WC really depends on your waitperson.

Okay guys, what do you think about a group of 20 somethings and 2 50 year olds watching Hoop De Doo? They are into corney comedy, but I'm wondering if this is worth it for this age group, with no little kids.

I'm taking three seniors this trip, and they're all looking forward to it. It's not really geared towards kids. I thought my then 28yo daughter wouldn't like it, but she had a great time. Especially after being chosen to go up on stage and be a cancan girl!LOL

We have gone twice and are going again in three weeks. DD7 & DS6 just loved it. We thought the meal was 2nd only to eating at Cape May. We enjoyed the fried chicken and corn. The strawberry shortcake was wonderful!

It is a little pricey, but we feel it is worth it. The audience participation is hilarious!:thewave:

We went to the HDD Oct 6, Me and my husband and son who just turned 5. We all LOVED it! My son was picked to be on stage and he is still taking about it. We thought the food was very good and everything was well worth the price. Our only complaint was the transportation to get there. It took about an hour and we stayed on property.

Can someone tell me a bit more about the transportation to Hoop De Doo? We'll be coming from Wilderness Lodge for the late 9:30 show.
