When I booked for Hoop de Doo this week the CM told me we had to take ID so we could have alcholic drinks - have to say we definitely look over 21 so do we still need to take passports (don't have photo driving licences and we aren't taking them with us anyway!)

Hi Lizzy(I know that's not your name but can't remember it!!!!)

I've booked HDeD too and I wasn't told any of that info, will be interested what others have to say as I don't really want to carry my Passport around!

We weren't told that when we booked for this trip either. We are in our 40s and 70s so doubt they would card us. My mom doesn't drink but I might drink something at dinner. We'll see!

Florida law says they have the right to check anyone no matter the age...most restaurants go with if you look over 35-40 they don’t ask...Disney normally does card me...and well the local grocery checks my ID to get a lottery ticket...lol.....but better safe then sorry esp if you want a drink

Most states if you look under 27 they are required to check photo id. It is the law.

I saw a sign in the store the other day the read "We card everyone under 40"

I thought that was a bit much. I also thought it funny when I saw signs like that they say 27 or whatever age because how do they know what age you are until they card you. They should say sho "looks" under 27.

Sorry for the aside...just my weirdness coming through.

Not sure about Disney, but over the past few weeks my boyfriend and I have gone to both a Yankee game and a Met game. We are both in our 40's so we do not look under 21. At both stadiums we were asked for ID to purchase beer. It did not matter if we purchased the beer at a stand or at our seats - my boyfriend actually had to pass his Drivers License down the row to the guy who sold beer before he would sell it to him.

Places are really cracking down. You might want to ask at guest services at your hotel (if you are staying on property) about the ID thing.

Oh, I know! Ask at the front desk (or call Disney now) and ask if a copy of the front page of your passport will suffice. That way, you can keep the originals safely locked up - the reason, I assume, that you don't want to bring them to dinner with you - but still prove you're old enough to drink.

You can take a copy of your passport with you that has your photo and your birth date on it. Here in the United States, we are required to carry our driver's license with us at all times while driving. Actually, it's not a very good idea to travel anywhere without some sort of ID with you.

Also, here in the United States it does vary from state to state but you should always have an ID when ordering or purchasing any alcohol. In Georgia, ID is required at all times. I'm 45 years old and look it. That driver's license is out before I even put the 12 pack of beer on the belt to check out of a grocery store. At the Falcons and Braves games you HAVE to have photo ID or you will not get served. The ATF officials can shut down any place that serves anyone alcohol without asking for ID.

Be on the safe side and always carry ID with you. You really don't want to be stuck without it.

I don't know about you all but the older I get the more I like to be carded...if you know what I mean? Makes me feel good every now and then ;)

DF and I are 24 & 23 but look about 17 & 16. Sometimes we get carded at the HDDR, but sometimes we don't. :confused3 We always have our ID's out and ready just in case. :)

I wish they were that strict in the UK, especially as the legal age is 18!

you wrote that you don't have a photo drivers license, but I think you should always carry ID with you, so assume the UK has some sort of "official" ID and/or a non-photo drivers license? If so, just carry that, I am sure they have seen them before at WDW. You could also to be sure, carry the copy of your passport, it can also function as the photo that proves you are the person your non-photo ID says you are.

With either option as long as you look over 30 I think it will be fine at the hoop de doo. Other places maybe not. Depends on how old you are/look.

Some places in order to avoid the "she looked old enough for a beer" make servers check ALL IDs. If they server is in the habit of asking everyone, then they will never have to worry about fines for serving underage people.

Yes I know what you mean!!!

As for the copy of the passport duh never thought of that. Must be getting older and more senile!!!

We have been married for 25 years this year and have never moved house, so when I changed my driving licence into my married name it was an old fashioned paper one without photo and I have never got around to updating it. The UK government want to introduce an ID card scheme but not much has happened with it so far. I honestly have to say at 46 years old I have never had to show any form of ID anywhere except for re entry into the country after a holiday abroad.

Thanks for the replies.

Lizzy, my OH's dad got carded 3 times last trip to Orlando and he's in his 50's. OH is early 30's and got carded every time. It's definately worth carrying ID.

I'd say it's worth you getting a photo ID driving anyway. They're much easier to carry on you and I use mine whenever I need ID like at the bank.

I went to HDDR with DW about 2 years ago. DW was carded. She was in her late 20s and does look pretty young. She didn't have her license but since she is a prosecutor, she had her badge with her which also had her picture identifying her as a district attorney. That wasn't good enough for the CM as he still wouldn't give her a glass of wine. I spoke with a manager and he sent over another CM who would serve us. The moral of the story is, if you look young, you might want to cary id just to avoid any hassle. This experience certainly did not ruin our time, but it was a little bit of a pain to go track down the manager.

all disney places that serve alcohol card you. i know. i've gotten carded at ever single one of them. or at least most of 'em! and i am not definetly not 21 anymore
