Is there any chance to be seated in a category "1" section when using the dining plan at a time other than 9:30. I ask only because if the vast majority of the people at any seating time are on the dining plan then do they not have to open up the tier "1" section to those diners also?

No because they can sell out Category 1 for cash in the other seating times.

I can only speak about our experience when we went in September 2010. We went to the 5:00 pm show and it was a full house. I booked Cat 2 HDDR with our DxDP 180+ days out (my window opened for booking on Saturday and we were going on a Tuesday, so in effect, I booked 183 days out). We were seated in the main floor, towards the front, but on the side, underneath the Cat 3 balcony wings. Since Cat 2 is usually the back of the main floor and the second floor facing the stage, I don't know if we were placed in Cat 1 or if they added tables sort of underneath the wings since they were so full?

What is important is that they assign tables based on when you book - the earlier you book, the better your table is supposed to be, so try to book early. Our view was fine, it was possible to see everything that was going on, but it probably would have been best to be more 'centered.'

Remember that while a lot of people are on the dining plan, there are also a lot of people that are not on the dining plan, either because they decided that spending 2 credits on HDDR is not a good use of credits or because they are staying off-site or because they have the QSDP or because they simply did not opt for the DDP/DxDP.

We were there during a slower time of year, last week of Oct. 2009. Hoop Dee Doo was packed full. So, other than the 9:30pm show, I doubt it will be not so full that a category 2/3 table would be assigned to a 1 table. But, our seats were similar to the last poster -- on the side on the main floor. View was fine... not up close... but find. The stage lighting is very good for views. Our waitress gave DS4 a stool so he could sit higher. The show was GREAT! DS4 laughed non-stop (which I enjoy) plus there's all you can eat ribs, chicken and "free" beer and sangria. Our waitress was funny as anything... a real jokester.

I'm not sure if this helps but we were there in Jan. We didn't book category 2 until Nov. We were seated front row center! I have a feeling they needed to fill that 2 seater table. I didn't question it and of course there were no issues with our DDP. You never know! :goodvibes

If you really want to be up close, then pay (don't use dining plan). We did that for Spirit of Aloha and were right up front. I thought about it for Hoop Dee Doo.... but the dining plan saves us money and it's not that important..... I don't know what I'd do with 2 extra credits.

There is no chance unless you get upgraded when you arrive, and you can't request this - if it happens, it happens. If you are on the dining plan you cannot book Category 1 at any show other than the 9:30. If you book Category 1 with cash at other than the 9:30 show, when you go to pick up your tickets and change your payment to DDP they will move you down to the next category.
