We are going to be at WL 3 days before our cruise and I was thinking of surprising our DD with a dinner show.Which one do you think is better and why? Are they both about the same price and length in time?Which seating is better early or late?? Thanks for any and all comments!I love these boards!!;) :p :) :jester:

My suggestion, and this is purely my personal opinion having been to both, would be the Hoop-De-Doo Revue. It is very entertaining, lively, and funny. You are not at the mercy of the weather there, since it is inside, whereas the Luau is in a "partially open to the elements" building. The seating time would totally depend on preferance for eating times, and age of those attending. I think the late seatings are much too late for the little ones. The food at the Luau is fried rice, ribs, and chicken. The meal at the Hoop-de-doo is fried chicken, corn, salad - both served family style. The hoop-de-doo is more interactive with the audience. As far as the show at the Luau, if you have seen one you have seen another. They all tend to be about the same. The meal at the hoop-de-doo is served during the show. If my memory serves me correctly, you eat first and then see the show at the Luau. I can't remember the exact pricing, but I think they are both about the same. Maybe someone else can elaborate more on that aspect. You will not be disappointed in the Hoop-de-doo; it is a must see and do.

OK, I have the luau booked for the night we arrive in November - I thought this would be neat for the kids because they love Lilo & Stitch so much! But I am intrigued by Hoop-de-Do, now! Can someone tell me about the show? Are there characters? What kinds of things do they do?

Here is the info from Deb's site.

Entertainment: While you enjoy an all you can eat dinner, you are entertained by good old fashion country western singers, dancers and comedians. Be prepared for slapstick, corny jokes and lots of singing and dancing.

Your meal, brought to your table includes: fried chicken, pork ribs, corn on the cob and strawberry shortcake! Unlimited beer, sangria and soft drinks are also included in the price.

Cost - $47.80 for adults and $24.81 for children 3-11; tax and gratuity included.

Reservations can be made up to 2 years ahead of time! Tables are assigned in the order in which reservations are made. There is 2 tiered seating...the main floor and upstairs in the balcony. Shows can sell out during busy times of the year.

Discounts are sometimes available - Disney resort guests paying with American Express card receive a discount of 20% at the late show. American Express Card Holders not staying on Disney property 10% off 9:30 p.m. show, reservations required.

Special Meals - If you have special dietary needs, be sure to make that clear when you make your reservation. You should be given a phone number to call 48 hours in advance to make arrangements for your meal.

Directions: The show is held at Pioneer Hall in Fort Wilderness.

I agree with Ilovedisney, especially on the weather issue. We enjoyed the Luau the first few times we went. The last time (many years ago) was on an evening it rained very hard prior to the show.

We were all held up in the main buiding waiting to be taken to Luau Cove. They passed out umbrellas and when the rain seemed to ease, led us on out. About half the umbrellas flipped up from the wind and everyone got soaked anyhow. The water going past the marina was running ankle deep.

By the time the show started, it had stopped raining, but we were still wet with a cool wind still blowing off the lake. We couldn't even stay for the entire show, which, BTW, is very good.

Thank you Meriweather! I guess we can hope for "merry weather" at the luau! I'm still undecided.....

:D that was a good one!!

We loved the Luau. I would do it again.
However, we didn't care for hdd....just a matter of personal preference.

We love the HDD!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

The food is good and the entertainment is great! And, if you go to FW a little early, you can bring your daughter to the petting farm and pony rides first! They're right behind the HDD building (Pioneer Hall).
