hooney baked ham--worth the $$$

I always disliked ham until I tried Honey Baked. We only buy these hams because I'm so fussy but they are expensive so we don't have them very often.

Definitely some of the best ham we've ever had!!

I grew up expecting it for Christmas, my dad's company always got them gift certificates for Christmas.

Now I'm too cheap.. but maybe I'll splurge this year. lol.

My MIL always get them and I dont think they are any better than any others I have tried. I actually prefered the spiral cut hams from Sams over most others and they are way cheaper than the honey baked ham.

We love Honeybaked ham here. We only buy it for Easter. This Christmas, we decided to get a spiral honey ham from the store, since we needed something small just for our family.

Has anyone had one of these? Is it worth the $$? I found a coupon and I could get an 8 lb ham for $43! At the grocery store I could get one for $10. Are they worth it?

Here is a GREAT copycat recipe we use every Christmas and Easter - it is fabulous! We do use the torch to caramelize it - it is the best part!!!!

I love Honey Baked Hams, and I always thought they were the best. Until my DMIL ordered a Dearborn Glazed Spiral Ham for Christmas eve last year, and that just blew HBH right out of the water. I have never had a better ham than that. You lucky folks in Michigan get to enjoy these. Maybe they ship?

I have made bean soup with the HBH bone, and I think it makes the soup taste a little odd. The sweetness from the glaze carries into the soup.

We used to get them every year until my husband found this recipe. It is the best ham I have ever had...EVER! I am not a ginger snap or mustard fan but I can tell you I beg my husband (as does every friend & relative who has ever tried it) to make this at every gathering all year long....

so now for $15 in ham and supplies we get a ham that taste $100 better than a honey baked! (oh and I don't have to cook it!!!)

One last tip-my husband doesn't have a clue what a "city cut" ham is so he buys the $10 spiral cut at Sam's. He brushes the mustard mixture between the slices to make it extra yummy!

Ok so I am love Honey Baked Hams.. They are delicious. Our local Honey Baked Ham stores used to have the Hams that were "Mis-cuts". These were signifigantly less expensive than the others. I bought several and served them for Christmas and I could never tell what they were talking about, I could not tell a difference. OK BUT now I have been buying my Hams at Aldi, they are sprial, come with a good glaze and they are awesome., and much less cost. I even served 2 of them at work, and everyone thought they were the Honey Baked ones... They were yummy!

HBH is the best.But don't-I usally don't like saying A brandbut_DO NOT BUY Smithfield brand.Way too salty that mixes with the sweetness of the honey.
I love mine spiral cut and smoked then add the honey glaze while cooking,THE BEST!!!!!!

I love HBH but just can't justify the money. I'm the only one that seems to notice the quality. MIL buys the cheapest she can find and pops it in the oven as is, no glaze or anything. everyone on that side of the family tends to make fun of me for "fussing" when it is "all the same anyway".

I've gotten hams from Wegmans and Sams. Love them both but no wegmans close to me.

The HBH hams are ok, but not worth the cost. We have had experience with fatty ones as well. Our favorite is the spiral sliced from Sam's - always get way more compliments on those than on the HBH ones.

I do not think they are worth the cost at all. Yes they are pretty good, but honestly I find most people really cannot tell the difference, I made one for a function at work and everyone thought it was a HBH, complemented me and everything....but haha, it was from Aldi's. This was in California - guess it might be different in other places. I've had much better hams from Costco and Sam's.

If you do buy a HBH make sure you examine it well before taking it. My mistake was in just taking what they gave me.

Petit Jean hams are the best. Very expensive but so good. Not too salty and not greasy at all.

My family and DH's family always get Honeybaked Hams for Christmas. Delicious!!!! We've bought them from the Honeybaked store before and I prefer to do it this way. They bring the hams out for you, unwrap it and ask if it is okay. If you don't like how it looks, you tell them you don't like the look and they will keep bringing them until you find one that looks good. I've rarely had to go past the second ham.

I will not buy the small ones. The 1/2 hams are the best. They freeze great. We get the 1/2. Eat some, package the other slices into serving size to freeze and then freeze the bone for soup.
