Hi there I want to know if sheraton vistana resort is a good place for a honeymoon. i was actually going to book today but i got on tripadvisor and looked at some reviews. The reviews were actually really good but alot of people said to go with an open mind because they did not look like the pictures on the website. This really scares me because naturally I want my honeymoon to awesome. Please give me some advice.

My parents own 3 weeks at Vistana Resort and love it. However, there are some older areas of the resort that need refurbishing. I would suggest Sheraton's Vistana Villages. It is the sister property located on International Drive South. It is literally 5 minutes away and an excellent location for SeaWorld, Universal and Disney. The villages is only about 4 years old and every unit is gorgeous! They don't have as much to offer in terms of basketball, mini-golf etc. but check out their website. We stayed there in 2002 and are returning this weekend. We personally love it!

It depends on the type of honeymoon that you want. We love the Vistana for a family vacation. I like having a washer/dryer, kitchen, separate bedrooms, etc. Plus, I like the activities/pools at the Vistana Resort - and it's location. It's a nice home away from home resort. We have stayed here several times and are going back in March.

However, for me personally, I would want to be pampered on my honeymoon. Vistana Resort isn't really the place to be pampered. But that's just my personal preference.

for romantic - I would go with WL at WDW....

however if that is out of your budget - Sheraton Vistana is nice.

a timeshare that is romantic - VWL (it is a DVC resort) - how about Hilton Grand vacation Club - or one of the Marriott - Marriott's Grande Vista reminds me of OKW -

Really more suited to a family vacation than a romantic honeymoon. What are you paying? For what size unit? Are you really planning to use a full kitchen to cook meals on your honeymoon?

If someone is letting you use their unit for free I'd go with it. Otherwise give us your budget and we might come up with some other suggestions.

Budget prolly $2000 for 9 nights. were going from nov. 7-16.

Looks like your hotel budget is around $222/night. I'd try to get a code or FL resident discount for POLY for at least 2 or 3 nights. I'd try for a discount at S/D, WL and AKL. If the rates are too high then go to biddingfortravel and use PL for a resort. You should be able to get something for not much more than $100.

I'd split my stay between 2 or possibly 3 resorts.

We are planning to stay the Vistana for six nights. From the reviews and other information it looks like a nice place. People are saying to stay at the newer sections - Cascades. If you are planning to stay there try allearsnet.com as they have a special deal for $169/nt for a 2-bedroom suite. Best price I have been able to find for something that large, but then again I'm taking two kids so the honeymoon issues are not an issue for us - unfortunately....

Have a nice honeymoon regardless.

We stayed at Vistana for our honeymoon back in 1997 in a two bedroom. We thought it was great. Of course it was a gift from my parents (meaning free)and since we were pretty much broke and just starting out (we did have $500 in money from wedding gifts for food, etc.) we were perfectly happy with it. Now if you are already more established and have traveled alot, you may want something swankier, but I thought the rooms were very nice for a 24 and 25 year old just starting out.

we have stayed at vistana... I didnt like the older section we were staying at, but the resort is nice, and I would go back if I could GUARANTEE the newer buildings...

For your budget, I would go somewhere a little more exclusive and luxurious.. you wont need more than a room if it is just the two of you..
even Disneys Port Orleans Riverside is pretty romantic....

Toyotoa,
As I recall you're looking at a 1 bedroom ? At Vistana these are found only in the 2 newest sections---Lakes & Cascades. I'd bet those folks on tripadvisor.com (or whatever the web site is) were staying in some of the older sections (Courts, Falls, Palms, Spas........some may even find problems with the Springs or Fountains, but I think the latter two are usually ok with most people). But you will have to be placed in the newer sections (thus avoiding that disappointment so many are speaking about) because that's the only place they have 1 bedrooms. For a honeymoon, either one is nice---maybe the Lakes because that area is a little more quiet. The resort is beautifully landscaped and there were many adult activities. You'll find kids at most resorts in the disney area. The suggestion of the WL is a good one, but there are tons of kids there also. The themeing of these two resorts is very different. For a woodsy, Pacific Northwest theme, go with the WL. They have a big fireplace in the lobby. The lobby itself is spectacular. The room colors are dark greens/tans in keeping with the woodsy theme. Even though I own at Vistana and we love it there, the WL is my fav resort. Vistana is more tropical and bright colored in their decor and theme. There were some other very good suggestions here, but don't be scared off by the trip advisor accounts because I'd bet money those people were in older sections where there aren't even any 1 bedrooms units.
Good luck !
BTW, here's the Vistana website. Pretty much every picture on this first page show either Cascades or Lakes section. So if you book a 1 bedroom you'll be placed here : http://www.starwoodvo.com/resorts/welcome.jsp?resortID=5

And the first 6 pictures on the scroll down bar are either the Lakes or Cascades. So you can see there's nothing to be concerned about in these two newer sections : http://www.starwoodvo.com/resorts/villafeatures.jsp?resortID=5

While I agree Port Orleans Riverside & even the French Quarter are beautifully landscaped and can be romantic I think newlyweds might miss room service ? The food court is not all that romantic and it's overrun with kids. I think a resort that offers room service (Vistana, WL, and perhaps some of the other suggestions) would be important if I were on my honeymoon. Not to mention, WL and Vistana give you a patio or balcony. Vistana's patio/balcony is screened in. Also, one of Vistana's pools and hot tub is open until 1 am---another plus for honeymooners ?

We love Vistana and have gone there at least once a year since 1996, but I don't really see it as a honeymoon destination. I would go for something on-site for that special trip. You can always try Vistana another year.
