I'm helping my brother plan his honeymoon. I would love to book him at Beach or Yacht Club but I'm not sure it's in the cards financially. Could anyone suggest a moderate resort that is good for a honeymoon. Your personal experience or pros/cons would be appreciated.

My wife and I Honeymooned at Port Orleans Riverside. We stayed in the Alligator Bayou section. We had a quiet pool right outside our door. Hardly anyone ever there. It was also nice to walk the paths through the resort. Lots of lush foliage and an occasional animal friend. Plus you also have Yehaw Bob performing in the lounge. He is very entertaining. Another plus is the boat to Downtown Disney...Very convenient. The thing my wife and I liked most was that even though this is a Large resort, you don't feel crowded

Checkout the resorts.
Pick one that they would enjoy the theming of.
The mods at WDW are:
Port Orleans - FQ or Riverside
Caribbean Beach
Coronado Springs

I definitely second Riverside. The grounds are beautiful and quite romantic, and the rooms were recently upgraded to the nicer linens.

Riverside is nice and they offer horse drawn carriage rides as well.
My husband and I stayed at the Coronado Springs resort for our anniversary during the wine and food festival and had an AMAZING time. A little known secret is their business class rooms which offers free breakfast from 7 to 10 AM and from 5 to 10 pm free snacks with unlimited bottled beer, wine, & sangria. The attendants will even give you a plastic "to go" cup to take to hot tub and the pool (very large and heated). An extra perk with the business class rooms is they are all in the same building as the Coconino lounge (private for the business class guests), close to the resort office, and bus stop.

What about the option of renting DVC points? This way they could stay at a deluxe resort for a much cheaper price.

I can't say enough good things about Riverside. My husband and I honeymooned there and also stayed for our first anniversary. The grounds, the horse-drawn carriage rides, the boat - everything everyone has said - are just amazing and so romantic. We stayed in the Royal Rooms because that's just my taste - they're very nice, close to the main building/front bus stop/POFQ, and everything is still very new.

This trip in March we're staying at Coronado Springs, and I'm definitely going to miss Riverside (even though I'm sure CSR is very nice).

port orleans riverside, as others have said. it's quiet and tranquil. the boat ride to DTD is perfect too.

caribbean beach is a little "loud" (not noise level)
coronado springs doesn't have much oomph to me, plus you've got a lot of business types
port orleans french quarter is smaller so it feels more compact

the only other moderate is the cabins at fort wilderness, and i can't speak to it.

My wife and I stayed at the Floridian. We didn't have much money either, so looking back on it, it might not have been the best decision to stay there. But, it was my first trip to Disney, I knew nothing about Disney at that time. But, I fell in love with Disney on that trip and I think part of the reason was the hotel. The service was ridiculously good. Having said that, I think the idea of renting points and staying at a DVC resort might be the best option. They might be able to get more for their money going that route.

I have never stayed at a moderate resort. Other than the Floridian I have stayed at the Contemporary, and when I went by myself on my last two trips I stayed at All-Star Sports and Pop Century. I have talked to friends that stayed at Port Orleans Riverside and they LOVED it.

It is hard to say though without knowing when they are going etc... If they go in August, for example, you will find the prices are so much cheaper and they may be able to afford a Deluxe Resort.

I really do like moderate resorts especially for bang for the buck but there is nothing like a deluxe, especially on your honeymoon. HOWEVER you do not have to pay that insane rack rate. Here is how you can stay at the Beach club , Boardwalk etc for 30-50% off:

1. Depending on you length of stay getting one Annual Pass for one of you (or two if you plan to make a trip in the next year) may be worth the AP discounts they have most of the year.
2. Look into renting DVC points from an owner at the beach club. For a studio it may cost less then you think!
3. As mentioned above, depending what season you are going you may just get a great room only discount, or free dining plan that will offset cost. Check out mousesavers and the specials on the Disney website.

If you have to stay moderate I would highly suggest Port Orleans French Quarter. I have stayed at all the mods imo this is the most quaint and romantic.
