Honeymoon Resort Ideas

Hello! My fiance and I will be having an 8 night Disney honeymoon in June of next year. We are AP and frequently take 2-3 day trips (he takes more than I do. As a teacher, I can typically only go in the summer months). He has stayed at all resorts except GF, SS, and OKW. There are several resorts I have not yet stayed. Originally we had planned to stay at Beach Club because I would really love to stay there and would love the option of walking in to Epcot or hanging out at the Boardwalk in the evenings.

However, we recently had some unexpected expenses and are faced with either changing the location of our wedding or cutting expenses on our honeymoon. One way to do that would be to stay at a different resort. I wanted to get opinions on which resorts may best best for a couple on a honeymoon that will be spending some time taking it easy, doing some park hopping, and lots of eating and drinking.

** One resort I will not consider is POR. Also, I have stayed at Pop, All-Star Sports, CSR, POR, POFQ, AKL, and Poly. I loved them all with the exception of POR

POFQ - so beautiful as you know from having stayed there. It was on my bucket list and was thrilled to stay there. Plus the boat to Disney Springs; lots of nice restaurants there

What about the new tower at Coronado Springs? It seems more "upscale" than the other moderates and romantic.

Then I second POFQ, it's my favorite of the Mods.

Sometimes you can get really good pass holder rates for the Yacht Club, which is a bit more refined than the Beach Club, but with the same amenities and location. Its honestly one of my favorites on property, and the rooms are amazing. I'd also say Wilderness Lodge or Coronado Springs. WL is my other favorite and is one of the most immersive when it comes to theming. The new tower at CS looks incredible as well (my short amount of time spent in the lobby has me seriously considering it for a future trip)!

Then what about a preferred room at CSR? While the tower rooms may feel more luxurious since they are new and in the tower, I actually would rather have a preferred room there. Close to bus stop 2 which is the first pick up and first drop off for the parks, close to El Centro, and close a bridge to go over to the restaurant or Dig Site. We find CSR to be one of the prettier resorts, and the recently refurbished rooms feel nicer than the comparable moderate resorts.

On a related note, have you considered renting DVC points? It would allow you to stay in a DVC room for a fraction of the cost. We find its on par with, or slightly higher than moderate resort pricing. Beach Club Villas can be difficult to book, but OKW and SSR would be easy. Animal Kingdom Villas are often easy as well, which would a unique and fun option for the special occasion.

Yes! I have rented points twice before and have loved it! We just wouldn't be able to pay in full for the room right away so I hadn't considered it yet. Also, I feel like the dollar per point had gone up quite a bit since I last rented 2 years ago. Then, the going rate seemed to be between $13-$15 per point. Recently I checked on renting DVC through private owners during our November trip and it seemed most people were charging $19-$20 per point now.

We went to WDW for our honeymoon last June (2018) and stayed at POFQ. We had an awesome experience and wouldn't hesitate staying there again! We loved that is was small and intimate but it certainly didn't break the bank.

I did love POFQ when I stayed there with my kids in 2011. I think my only hang-uo with it is that my brother stays there multiple times a year and will only stay there. I know that seems silly because it isn't me, but it's almost like I've gotten tired of it through all of my brother's stories and pictures there over the years. That is silly, I know

I totally get that!

Let's cross the values off the list...those won't fit the bill.

If the deluxes don't work price point wise, I'd go with CSR OR the swan/dolphin. CSR feels more adult. While Swan/Dolphin don't have all the "disney" perks on an adults only trip, I'd just uber to/from the airport.

Perhaps consider a studio at SSR or OKW? They are relatively quiet and you would have the boat to DS. I would also consider the Swan or Dolphin for the location. They have great restaurants and a lovely pool complex as well.

Thank you all so much for you responses! There is definitely a lot for us to think about. I'm hoping to at least get a long weekend trip to try out Beach Club at some point.

I love POFQ but I think I would choose either CSR for a honeymoon, or perhaps the new Gran Destino (I htink that is the name of the new resort) tower at CBR.
I liked the more adult feel that you have at CSR, and I htink that on a honeymoon I woudl prefer that over the quaint lovely POFQ, which is my goto moderate.

I also am drawn tot he tower and gondola system at CBR, and definaltly would look at that option for a moderate. I priced it out a while back and found the price reasonable.

I’d keep an eye out for confirmed reservations for DVC resorts! You may have to do a split stay with cash or renting points but maybe a confirmed DVC reservation will pop up in the future when you are able to pay in full

My wife and I honeymooned back in the day at YC and loved it, but you might want to look into a Garden view room at Boardwalk. Very nice views and they're a bit less expensive than a pool or boardwalk view.

Though not Disney, you might look at Swan or Dolphin operated by Starwood/Marriott chain. You would still be in the Epcot area and get the same options for tickets, fastpass, transportation, and park purchased delivered to hotel as Disney resort. I am not too familiar with Priceline or Expedia, but you might take a look to see if you could score a better deal.
