Okay, so here's the deal:

We are staying at the BoardWalk until the day we get married and then transferring to a different hotel. We originally wanted to stay at the AKL but found out that they are renovating it until 2009. I do not want to see any kind of renovations on my honeymoon! AND the room that we would get complimentary is on the 5th floor---the floor that they will be renovating. Granted we will be moving again, because we can't afford to stay there for another week in a room that is 700+

Sooo, I was thinking since it is our only honeymoon that we could stay at the Poly for the rest bc it is only like 100 more than the AKL and it is beautiful and totally romantic. We have never stayed there but saw a concierge level room when my cousin did and it was BEAUTIFUL! I do not know how the rooms are in the standard level and still want the romantic feel. Apparently they don't have 1 king for a standard and only 2 queens (not very honeymoon like) but I am hoping that maybe they would upgrade us.

BUT we are going November 17-24 which is Thanksgiving week and I don't think that they would, but I guess it still is a possibility. So I am asking you what you would do....please help!

The poly is my fav. resort... If you book early there is a better possibility of getting the bump to a better room.... Mention it is your honeymoon and see what they do?

I'd stick with AKL, mainly because I think it's one of the coolest hotels ever built and I loved being there. It was all booked up for our wedding/honeymoon, so we're trying the Grand Flo before moving back to good old Pop Century. Nothing like hitting both ends of the spectrum in one trip, huh?

Oooh....I'd seriously consider moving your stay at the GF to the end of your honeymoon - I've read plenty of reports that it can be a huge letdown to downgrade from a Deluxe at the end of a trip. Lots of brides have been able to move their complimentary night's stay to the last day of their trip - they weren't required to use it on the actual wedding night. Just my two cents! :thumbsup2

I love the Poly, but unless you're upgraded to a suite, you will not get a king bed. I would either pick the Poly and deal with a cozy queen for the two of you ;) or maybe a different deluxe resort.....I don't know if I'd risk the renovation situation. JMHO. Good luck!

I love the Poly since it has the whole Hawaiian theme. However I also LOVE AKL so it would be a toss up. Either of them are Deluxe resorts so you will have the best regardless. It just depends how much time you plan on spending in the room ;). Poly also has the advantages of the beach and the great hammocks to watch wishes from.....AKL is just so wonderful though! I don't envy your choice. Just a quick note tell them as many times as you can that you are on your honeymoon. When I was on my program with Disney I worked in room assignment for a little while. The reservations do not get downloaded to the resort until 10 days out so once you hit that point make sure you call them to make your request. Unfortunately they assign rooms based on filling spaces not based on requests. Let them know how important it is to you. They will make it magical

I have had such bad luck staying at hotels all over the place! For a couple of years, everywhere I stayed was being renovated! I believe if the floor at the AKL you'd be staying on is being renovated, I would avoid it any any cost, unless you plan to be out of your room all day every day (which you might). :)

We've taken all of that into consideration. We're actually not big fans of the Grand anyway...my fiancee just wants to be there before and during the wedding because we're getting married at the WP. She wants to be where the wedding will be. Then we only have four nights left to play in the parks, which we'll do all day and then crash at Pop before getting up again, and after that we're taking the 7 night Disney Magic cruise. But thanks for the advice...didn't know that you could use your comp night any night of your stay.

I'm staying at AKL for a week on our honeymoon in August. Although I know they are renovating I am hoping that we won't be placed next to the renovations. If I am I will asked to be moved, I am sure they will try an accomodate you if you aren't happy with your room.

We are having our comp night at AKL at the end of our stay, and adding an extra night on from our own money. I would still stay there even with renovation work - the atmosphere is just unique!

I am confident from all the notices I've seen that Disney will not be putting guests too close to the renovation work - they don't want to field a load of complaints!

I would (as you put it) suck it up and stay at AKL, if that's the atmosphere you wanted. But the Poly is lovely too!

HI give me the music!
I was just wondering, why dont you rate the gf? We were thinking of staying there, as it's suppose to be 'the best', or so i've heard?
It'll be either that or the poly

I've stayed at the GF the most at the WDW Resort and have visited many others. It is still my favorite and I have yet to find a finer resort! When we do stay elsewhere, nothing ever compares and I always find myself saying "I wish we stayed at the GF instead!" I would suggest staying there at all costs, especially because its your honeymoon!!

Since it's not on your list, however, I would suggest the Polynesian Resort. I've stayed there before and I must say it is very pretty with a great view of the Seven Seas Lagoon and the fireworks at night (especially watching them on the beach at night- very romantic). Also, the best part is the use of the private hotel monorail. The resorts around the Seven Seas Lagoon have the use of their own monorail that stops at each, so no waiting in that HUGE line for the Transportation and Ticket center at night when leaving the MK. You can also take a monorail over to EPCOT. Saves a lot of waiting for in line and traveling on buses! I hope you give the Polynesian a chance!! :thumbsup2

We have yet to stay there (this will be our first stay) but we have spent quite a bit of time there and just don't find the place very interesting. It's very pretty and I'm sure the rooms are just fabulous, but for the price I'd much rather be at AKL, which is just a total luxurious blast. In the future we also want to try the Y&B or BoardWalk...we'd love to be able to just walk into Epcot.

I voted for stay at another resort. It sounds like you aren't happy with either option and you don't want to be on your honeymoon and wish that you had chosen to stay somewhere else. Why not stay at the boardwalk the entire stay? It is a beautiful resort and the proximity of Epcot is ideal! I also think it will be a huge pain to switch rooms with all the wedding luggage in tow... just my $.02.

Thanks for all your help! I will probably be staying at the Poly. We do not want to stay the whole time at BoardWalk, the rooms pretty but I think we wanted something more themed if you will. I love the idea of watching wishes in the hammocks, I never even thought of that!!

THANKS EVERYONE!!!

i know in the above post it said you have made your decision, but I have heard sereval ppl come back from AKL and say they saw or heard no construction. I think some people get on ehre and overreact about the construction.

ultimately i would pick GF, which is where we honeymooned and it was wonderful..but if thats not an option I say stay at AKL
