Honey, I Shrunk the Checkbook, Really final, some Feb shots, 7-27, pg82.

Yes, old tr's sound great!popcorn::

But the question is, can Nebo remember that far back? :hippie:

You gotta be kidding me! That would be a 16 year old trip report, no, I dun't think so. But I do remember the first time down, and that was the greatest trip in my life.

The kids were 13 and ten years old, and still at the point where I could control all there waking moments without backtalk.

Oh yes, I still remember lots. That was also a trip that was almost cancelled.
Mr. Nebo blew out his knee trying to win a bottle of Cold Duck in a limbo contest. It was down to just me and another guy, when my knee exploded.
That was also when said nebo was first introduced to Mr. Vicodin.

I think I had a total of 15 for the trip, but it was again my back that gave me the most trouble on the drive down, and I took my first pill just before we got off the turnpike. I remember pulling up at CBR in our estate wagon, looking like hell in cutoffs and a black tank top. The vike had just kicked in when we arrived, and I opened the door, and literally fell out onto my hands and knees, I was so stiff. Just like Clark Griswald, I actually had tears running down my face from a combination of pain and joy.

We got a room in Martinique which is now a preferred section, ground floor.
At night Diane and I would walk down to the Captain's Tavern for a couple of fancy drinks and the two bartenders were named Madison and Glencoe, meaning one was from Madison, Wisconsin and Glencoe, IL.
Diane kept trying different drinks, but I stuck to the Mai Tai, with 151 rum on the top. Just two of them made the walk back to the room a riot.

We did MK, Epcot and MGM, a day trip to Uni. Studios, and Typhoon Lagoon.

Let's see, Diane was picked for the Indy stunt show, both kids were picked for Superstar Television, remember that one? Jeremy was picked as an stunt kid in Earthquake, both got to ride with the conductor on King Kong, and I was once asked to hold a door open for a cast member.

We missed the opening of Splash Mountain by two weeks, and I almost totally freaked out from claustrophobia on 20,000 Leagues. Mission to Mars was a complete waste of time, just like the replacement still is, and Smidgy wouldn't ride the Skyway to Tomorrowland.

I remember having everyone rate their favorites on the drive home, and the clear winners were Haunted Mansion, Horizons, and World of Motion.
The 3-D movies back then?
Muppetvision, Captain EO, and Magic Journeys.

But it was the entire Disney Presentation that got to me the most. From the gorgeous resort to the transportation system to the hidden pixie dust in the air. I knew there was something magical there when for an entire week my kids didn't fight.

Yes, that was an incredible trip. By the way, am I the only one who misses Food Rocks and Chubby Cheddar?
And now I hear THe Adventurer's Club is closing for good, and I wonder what will happen to the fat, bald guy that was a character there, who spent a good 15 minutes talking to my youngest and cracking him up. Sigh.

Boy, to be able to go back in time, huh?

Now the Food Rocks song will be in my head, "Veggie Fruit fruit, veggie, veggie, fruit, fruit..."

And I wish I could go back in time too. Not to change anything, just to appreciate what I had when I had it.

I think I remember mission to mars, was that where they took you up in a "space ship" that felt like it sucked you down in your seats?.
I definitely remember Captain EO, whatever happened to that nice young man, oh yea he went :dance3: .

There was lots of time between trips for me. I first went to the MK in March 1972 when it had just opened. I do remember the skyway, Peter Pan's flight, 20,000 leagues under the sea, and the Swiss Family tree house but that's about it. OH...and the jungle cruise. I also remember a big complicated ticket book? Not sure how that worked. Mom was in charge.

Next trip was the honeymoon. And I do remember Captain EO and Body Wars or whatever it was called. I almost needed a fanny pack.

Next trip was when we took the girls...in 2000. I was 5 months pregnant. Not many attractions on that trip...mostly just autograph hunting.

Yep...good times. Thanks for sharing yours too.

BTW....I love seeing you over at the trivia quiz. You're pretty good, too! I knew you would be. :thumbsup2

You were able t control a 13 yr old without any back talk?? What is your secret o'wise one?:worship:

Serioulsly, my 10 yr old's first word was.......why.

Veggie Veggie, Fruit Fruit, Veggie Veggy fruit fruit!!!!!!!!!!!

Gee thanks, Nebo, no I have that ringing in my head................

Now here is an idea for a new attraction!

"The way we were"

A show with clips of all the old favorite rides that have closed.

Parents could take the kids and torture them with memories about things back then. "when I was 13 .........., etc"
Actually, that might be a popular show with the "ahem" older crowd... and shouldn't be too expensive to do.

Wish they hadn't gotten rid of the "I have an Idea" program years ago, I might have won a nice stash of cash for that idea.

Thanks, Nebo, keep those memories coming!

I DO remember Food Rocks, but I amnot sure that I would go so far as to say that I miss it.

I am soooo going to the Adventurers Club sometime before they close it.
:sad2:

Yes, please do share your secret because my 11 1/2 yo drama queen is kiiiilllllllllllllllling me. And are you SURE your kids didn't fight in Disney or are you just editing out the bad parts in your memory like I do (otherwise we might not go back or anywhere ever for that matter!)? My kids don't discriminate... they will fight anywhere.

We went to WDW and a WDW cruise October of 2005.

Now my girls then 9 and 11 fought all the time and still do. That week on vacation. No fights. In fact one of my favorite pictures of my girls ever.... was taken watching Cinderellabration. Back to us .... facing the stage... older sister with arm around the younger one.

Disney is magic.

write on my friend... write on.

We are totally missing the "Nebo and Smidgy got reunited and it feels so good" trip report. Circa 199?

199? we're not THAT old!:rotfl:
You were able t control a 13 yr old without any back talk?? What is your secret o'wise one?:worship:

yeah, dream on, nebo!!! oh , what we choose to forget!. the NEXT trip, when they were 12 and 15, they got along great cause they went their separate ways... from US too! they EACH met a girl at the resort! they each have a day left on their SUPER DUPER PASSES. the last day they didn't go with us to the park, they stayed at the resort with the pool, the arcade, and the GIRLS!

ok, parenthetical aside here: once at a soccer tournament in Madison wisc.: 10 -12 teams from the same town staying at the same hotel. we are there for Jeremy's team. we check into our room and already have a message waiting for us. some girl looking for Todd!!!!

fast forward to disney. todd is 15. we're not there 2 days and we have some people we don't know calling our room asking if we know where their daughter is!!! "um, probobly at the arcade with todd... nice to meet ya" hmm, as I recall, todd didn't bring THAT up when bragging to his fiancee years later.
and Jeremy (12) met a 16 year old blonde from california. he told her he was 15. (ok she probably lied, too). he actually got a few letters from her after!
I guess the boys are just too handsome! (take after their DAD:hug: )

That's too funny, Smidgy! :rotfl:

No doubt you have beautiful boys! And Jackson is right on track too!

I must admit after you mentioned Food Rocks I searched for it on YouTube and watched it. Im so sad your trip is almost over but i am comforted knowing I can read your older report :woohoo: (kind of like when you are so sad your trip is over and its always comforting to think about planning another!)

I miss Food Rocks...and its predecessor, Kitchen Caberet! And Superstar TV...ah, memories.
I am disappointed about Adventurers Club closing...I have never made it there! Now it's a must-do for my next trip, since it will be my last chance :sad2:

"

And I wish I could go back in time too. Not to change anything, just to appreciate what I had when I had it.

Very well put. But there is one thing I'd like to change from that first trip down. I WANT TO MAKE SURE THE CRUISE CONTROL WORKS BEFORE I LEAVE THE HOUSE!

I think I remember mission to mars, was that where they took you up in a "space ship" that felt like it sucked you down in your seats?.
I definitely remember Captain EO, whatever happened to that nice young man, oh yea he went :dance3: .

Yep Shawn, that's it. I think originally it was Flight to the Moon, then Mission to Mars, then Alien Encounter, and now Stitches Mistake. And good icon choice for mr. Jackson. Now, can you come up with a good smiley for the original pilot on Star Tours, who was replaced when he was, um, caught dangling his participle, mr Pee Wee Herman?

There was lots of time between trips for me. I first went to the MK in March 1972 when it had just opened. I do remember the skyway, Peter Pan's flight, 20,000 leagues under the sea, and the Swiss Family tree house but that's about it. OH...and the jungle cruise. Thanks for sharing Melinda. And not kidding, I missed that question. I could not think of a Nigel, period. I asked Smidgy and my son later, and they never heard of a Nigel either. After much pondering, my guess is he is the pelican, am I right? By the way, is Finding Nemo the Musical available yet on a Disney disk, or is it still just an Itunes thing? Since I have had the melody of the "Crush" song stuck in my head since February, it would be nice to be able to add some words to it! "Go with the Flow-ohhhhhh oh ohhhhhhh,,,,"

You were able t control a 13 yr old without any back talk?? What is your secret o'wise one?:worship:

Serioulsly, my 10 yr old's first word was.......why.
Oh really?

Why?

Sadly, that was the last time I was in control, it was like a dimensional gate opened up after that, adn I became a raving lunatic and an idiot, they always knew better than me.

Veggie Veggie, Fruit Fruit, Veggie Veggy fruit fruit!!!!!!!!!!!
Uh oh, I think she's losing it! Mo, Larry, cheese!

Gee thanks, Nebo, no I have that ringing in my head................
I'm surprised you can hear the ringing over the voices.
Now here is an idea for a new attraction!

Ok, welcome back, I like your idea. Here's how I would alter it though. It would be a big theatre attraction, showing clips from past attractions like Horizons and World of Motion, Cranium Command, Body Wars, Food Rocks, etc. etc. and it would be done in 3-D! I also have a homework assignment for you young lady, if you don't already know. Are they putting in a bigger pool at CBR? It's been closed for almost six months I think, and that is the one turn off at that great resort, where you started out working. By the way, I did ascertain, acsertain, ascertane, ,,, GET,,, your edit. You actually took the time to go back until you found the picture of my grandson, so you could remeber his name and post it.
YES! I am GOOOOOD!

I DO remember Food Rocks, but I amnot sure that I would go so far as to say that I miss it.

:sad2:

Java, do try to get to AD. Club. , sometimes it could be a riot, just be careful of the stools along the bar, but look around everywhere, there's stuff happening on the walls sometimes that is easy to miss. I also think the reason I miss Food Rocks is cuz that's one thing we haven't done to death. I'm already tired of Soarin', instead of California, I'd like to see the entire backdrop be over all of DisneyWorld, Daytona, and maybe the Keys. Instead of the golf ball coming right at you, it could be the Space Shuttle!

Yes, please do share your secret because my 11 1/2 yo drama queen is kiiiilllllllllllllllling me. No matter what Smidgy says, the kids didn't fight that first trip, at all. And there wasn't any backtalk. Now, let's put the emphasis on the word, FIRST.
Two years later and it was another comedy series, "All Against the Family". or, "King of the Hill, NOT!".

Bee

That sounds great Bee. You know, if it was our first trip, and I had seen that, it would have been in black and white. Really. I lived the entire first trip down there looking out the viewer of my Sony Handycam, before they even had the swing out viewer, and it wasn't in color although you could later view it in color. Yeah, guess I'm old. And then most of the tapes were destroyed in the London Blitzkrieg.

I must admit after you mentioned Food Rocks I searched for it on YouTube and watched it. Im so sad your trip is almost over but i am comforted knowing I can read your older report :woohoo: (kind of like when you are so sad your trip is over and its always comforting to think about planning another!)

Jackie, I didn't know you could do that. I probably won't try because the puter is too old and can't really download video. But really, check to see if they have the whole Horizon's. There were scenes in there that just took your breath away. By the way, oh yes, I'm planning, always planning, but unfortunately right now it is all in my head.

I even have a list going of new stuffage to see.

New hurricane exhibit in Innoventions, new parade at Disney Hollywood Studios, Toy Story Midway Mania, Simpson's at Universal, new roller coaster going up there also. But the thing that has me most intrigued is the Harry Potter Island going up at Universal Studios, I can't wait to see what a real life Hogwarts looks like. They just have to have a "sorting hat" somewhere in there. I'm probably doomed to Slytherin.

I miss Food Rocks...and its predecessor, Kitchen Caberet! And Superstar TV...ah, memories.

Yes, by all means do it. I want to know if the fat bald guy is still there, I didn't see him last time, and I worry about him.

Ok, coming up, the final little chapter on the december trip, and then if anybody wants, I have more pictures from the feb. trip, mostly resort stuff.

Oh, and I have ONE more stupid thingy I'm working on, nothing special, but sometimes, like Marita, you just have to give in to the voices. Yes, it will be just as stupid as the grocery store chapter and the Nebo's Abidged Too Far DIStionary.

seeya:dance3:

suddenly, I'm in the mood to listen to Billy Jean.

I am so excited for Harry Potter at Universal. The preview picture they have on the website looks like its going to be amazing!!!:yay:
As for YouTube you have to try! You don't have to download so it should work on your computer. The videos have already been uploaded by other people so all you have to do is click on it. They usually have any Disney ride or attraction you search for. Even rides that are no longer there . . like Horizons!

I LIKE the 3D idea!

Yes, CBR is getting a bigger pool, it's been a big complaint for years. Not sure when it reopens though.

And NO, I did NOT go back to look for Jackson's picture, I Remembered!

Serioulsly, my 10 yr old's first word was.......why.

I'd like to know toooo. My 14 year old sons 1st words were "what ever" and then I hear the click of the cell phone. Actually I don't even hear the click so I keep rambling and then I notice it says call ended.
We leave for Disney Tuesday the 15th, then all will be hunky dory with the pixie dust :cool1: until our plane lands back in Sioux falls SD :confused3

Oh that's hysterical. I have 2 boys that will go through that, which I find funny and then I have 2 girls that will go throuogh that, and I don't find that funny in the least.

I'm sure your boys are beautiful!

Nebo:Sadly, that was the last time I was in control, it was like a dimensional gate opened up after that, adn I became a raving lunatic and an idiot, they always knew better than me.

Do you see a connection here with starting to take vicodin. Just saying.

ok, when you look to the left to see who posted this, realize that in Swahili that Nebo is spelled Smidgy, ok?

Shoot, and Love handles is also spelled dimples.

Or,,,,,,,,,,,,,just think that I screwed up again.

Um, hi! Ok, here's what happened and why I am awol.
I can't tell you.

I know, what a hemorroid.
But what I have been doing has just about killed me, but I shall persevere as long as I can, while it lasts.

Ok, are there two m's in hemmorroid?, nah, that doesn't look right.
I do promise, I shall wrap up the december trip report tomorrow, and it will probably be filled with much appreciation and wet hanky kinda stuff.

Hmm, maybe just one R.
Hemmoroid.

Nah, that ain't it either.
In the meantime.................

I am so excited for Harry Potter at Universal. The preview picture they have on the website looks like its going to be amazing!!!:yay:

Ok, I will give it a try soon. Cant hurt except make me reboot the damn thing which I have to do all the time anyway.
And dontcha think they just have to have a Hagrid character walking around?

I LIKE the 3D idea!\
good, then we split the "finders idea fee."

Yes, CBR is getting a bigger pool, it's been a big complaint for years. Not sure when it reopens though.
yay, yay, and yay again. It will be one of the first places I book next trip.

And NO, I did NOT go back to look for Jackson's picture, I Remembered!

My apologies fraulein. YOU are good!

I'd like to know toooo. My 14 year old sons 1st words were "what ever" and then I hear the click of the cell phone. Actually I don't even hear the click so I keep rambling and then I notice it says call ended.

Connie, nice to see you again. I was starting to think that you had changed your name to Disney What-ever!. :happytv:

Oh that's hysterical. I have 2 boys that will go through that, which I find funny and then I have 2 girls that will go throuogh that, and I don't find that funny in the least.
I'm sure your boys are beautiful!
Do you see a connection here with starting to take vicodin. Just saying.

Yeah, it is hysterical how your view points can change on the same subject, but different genders. But you know what? The end result is still the same, and it really goes for either one.
Trust me, I know.

And believe it or not, I have drug free children, not sure how that happened, or what I did wrong, not even vikes.
But Jeagerbombs? Let's not go there.

Ok boys and girls, tomorrow then, I think I will be typing up a storm.
