We're thinking about buying one of these SUV's. Any comments on either? The good, the bad, and the ugly! All opinions welcomed.

We have the Pilot and love it, I don't know anything about the other though. Other than a small rattle sometimes when DH is driving it, we have had no problems ever with it. The rattle is probably there when I drive it too, but I don't notice things like that the way DH does (or maybe I have the radio louder ;) ). We've had it for about 18 months now, and since DH does most of the driving in it I am not sure what it gets for gas mileage.

I have an '04 4Runner (actually I work for Toyota), it's a nice SUV, rides very smoothly, not truck-like at all. The only problem is what it costs me to fill up. I fill up about once a week, I got gas on Friday and it cost me $57 for 16 gallons of gas! I'm on an associate lease program, so next time I might have to get the Prius!!

Unless, the bodystyle has changed, the 4Runner doesn't have a 3rd row seat option. The Pilot does.

Yes, you can get a 3rd row seat in the 4Runner now.

Does the 4Runner's third row seat have enough room and seat belts for 3 people. I have a Toyota Highlander with the 3rd Row seat option and it will only fit two people (two children really). Is the Pilot a bigger vehicle than the 4Runner? Do they do about the same in gas mileage? I believe the Pilot has a bigger engine than my Highlander but not sure about how it compares to the 4Runner.

My SIL just bought a Pilot. She only got 20 mpg on a long, highway trip. I didn't think that was too good. I believe my Highlander will do 25 mpg on a trip like that. Anyway, I shouldn't compare my Highlander since you're not looking at one of those. I must thought that Highlander and 4Runner were similar except that one is built on a car body (Highlander) and one on a truck body (4Runner).

This is the perfect question for me. I traded in my 2003 4-runner for a pilot. I LOVE my pilot it has more leg room than the toyota. Also, they did not have the 3rd row seat in the 2003. I'm able to seat 7/8 people in my pilot comfortably. Also with my 4-runner I had alot of road noise. Maybe it was just mine. We went to visit my SIL and when we came home after spending a week with a pilot I said that is it I'm getting one. My advice would to be rent a 4-runner and a pilot and see what fits you the best. Also, if you choose to buy the 4-runner call the 1-800# and tell them that you are comparing the two and see what they can do to influnce your decision. We did this when we bought our 4-runner and the said if we choose Toyota they would send us a check for $500. They gave us a refrence # and all we had to do was send them a bill of sale and we were $500 richer. :)

Our choice came down to a 4Runner, a Pilot and a Pathfinder. We got the Pilot. Adore it. I knew I wanted it on paper before we even test drove anything. And I adore it so much that if I weren't replacing my car with a Sebring, I would be getting a second Pilot. Get the red! It's purty!

I have owned a 4 runner it was an older one but that thing would not die the body finally fell apart but the motor was never going to give up. The honda Pilot is just not an attractive vehicle as far as our family is concerned.

I have a Pilot. We've only had it for 2 months but so far I love it. I don't use the 3rd row a lot, but I like having the flexibility of having it there so if the kids friends come along there is room for everyone...that and its not a van!

Mid-size SUVs only seat two people in the third-row. It is full-sized SUVs, like the Tahoe and Expedition, that have room for three in third row.

The 4Runner is a bigger truck. It is also actually a truck, where areas the Pilot is car-based, on the same mechanicals as the Odyssey. It gives it a softer ride, but it is also less "tough".

The 4Runner and Pilot don't really compare. If you like the Pilot, chances are you will perfer the Toyota Highlander, which is also car-based. The 4Runner, being a real truck, competes with other real trucks, like the Grand Cherokee, Commander, and Pathfinder. Depends on an individuals tastes.

I love the Toyota 4-Runner. Right now I'm driving a GMC Envoy but after the warranty is up I've decided that I'm trading for a 4-Runner. I will get the third seat option just because I think it's nice to have.

I have a Pilot and I love it! The 3rd row will fit three kids no problem. It can fit two adults comfortably too.

I had a rattle too but discovered that it was my license plate frame :confused3
