What a change of heart we have had. At first we were worried about staying as close as possible but after really thinking about it I wouldn't mind staying off site and taking a shuttle. That will be fantastic after a long day of playing. I'm looking into the homewood and wondering if anyone has stayed there and how they liked it. And if the breakfast has hot items or is only cereal/pastries. Thanks so much!

I took 4 teenage graduates in June to Homewood. We loved it! Great hot cooked breakfast and light supper Mon-Thurs. There is a dedicated shuttle they share with another hotel for a fee but we used ART because we had a great deal. The ART stop is just outside the hotel driveway in front of the next hotel. The 2 room suite was spacious and very clean. There is a kitchen as well. We had a AAA rate of 109.

We also stayed here in June. The breakfast was hot and was changed up a little bit everyday and waffles were good. Try to get there early because the serving room can be crowded. I would take the dedicated shuttle if I were to stay again because we would be waiting for the ART and the dedicated shuttle was much more reliable coming on the half hour like clock work. The evening meals served M-TH were also good and saved money in the parks. since we went when the hours were long we general took a break about 2 and then went back to disney after dinner. The rooms are comfortable, everyone is friendly and there are plenty of towels and neutrogena products in the room which were restocked daily. The kids toys (stuffys) were always arranged in a cute fashion when we returned in the afternoon. We would definitely stay here again, but would take the dedicated shuttle instead which is the same price as the daily ART $4/$1 but you can confirm with the hotel.

We originally had our trip next month booked at Homeweood (we stayed there in 2009) but we just switched hotels to the Grand Ca. for a splurge.

Here are the good things about Homewood:
*seperate bedroom area
*full kitchen (great if you are there long enough to utilize it)
*nice hot breakfast items with lots of variety
*dedicated shuttle (though they didn't have this running when we went last time)
*Has a starbucks in the parking lot (for us this was a plus. lol)
*Has been recently rennovated to include updated furnishings

The bad: (for us anyway)
*its far. We usually drive and the time to get there, park, take the tram and hit downtown disney was usually a good 30 min
*The pools- one that is about 18" (for toddlers) and the other that is 5'. My kids like pools that are about 3-4' to play in.
*parking fee (which is more and more common around the area anyways)
*a hold on my card- I used my debit card and they put a $50 hold each day we were there (7 days) even though I had paid my room fee up front. The holds didn't get released for 10 days. I never had that happen at any hotel using my debit card before. Not a biggie to some, but I like funds available to me.
*the elevators are insanely slow- had we kept our upcoming reservations we would have requested a ground level floor simply to avoid waiting to get out of the hotel.

all in all I would stay there again at a good rate. But we decided we wanted to stay onsite.

Thank you for all the info. I think we have decided this is where we will stay:)

Good to know about the hold on debit. Seems really common in that area which is something I've never really encountered before. The hojo told me that even if I payed up front (like through expedia) they would still put a hold on for incidentals. I asked how much it was and they said the cost of my visit:eek:

Good choice! Homewood is my favorite place to stay. One of the few places that sleeps six with queen size beds. Also the cooked to order eggs, potatoes, and bacon, sausage, or ham in rotation.

I stayed there last month. They have their own shuttle now instead of ART. They share with the Crowne Plaza and Sheraton in the same block. Runs every half hour and was always on schedule. $4 per day.

The breakfast was good.

The room looked like it was renovated but the carpet was dirty. The carpet in the elevator was filthy.

We are staying at the Homewood in June. We will have a 2 yr old and 6 month old.

I had planned to pay for the dedicated shuttle. Does anyone know how the shuttle works with little ones? Do I need to bring my car seats? Would the kids simply sit on our laps? Also is there enough room to bring our stroller on the shuttle?

We were told that the light dinner includes soda, beer and wine. Can anyone tell me what this is like (ie: 1 per person, crazy long line, etc). This is actually what sold my DH on this location over the Embassy Suites.:thumbsup2

Any insight is appreciated.

In June of 2010 when we stayed at Homewood, I settled the bill when we checked in and paid $50.00 total cash for incidentals. This was all returned cash at check out as we had no additional charges. There were no holds at all placed on my credit card I used to book the hotel.

The times we were there for eve meal (4 nights in a row), there was no line at all for beer or wine (and no limit as far as I could tell). We went over 4th of July week so the hotel was hopping! The food service area was well stocked and well attended with a huge area for tables plus outdoor seating. There was a host/hostess overseeing the alchohol service but no wait ever. You can also fix a plate of food on a tray and take it to your room for a quieter meal. Same with your drinks.

We used ART because we got really good pass rates on GetAway for the week. Saved $$$. There we no 5 or 7 day specials availalble with Homewoods dedicated shuttle.

FYI, we stayed at the Embassy Suites South, it does include a evening manager's reception with beer, wine, sodas, and snacks! Just wanted to let you know...:thumbsup2
