Does anyone have any suggestions on programs that teach Spanish to young children? Mine are 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 and I would like to get them started learning Spanish soon. I'm interested in something fun that uses dvd's, computer programs, books, workbooks ar a combination of all of these. The upside is that I can be learning too! I'm hoping to start homeschooling full force next year but I'd like to get started on this to see how it goes. Thanks!

I'm not sure what to tell you but I hope someone replies because I'm very interested in this as well for my 3 year old!:)

I don't know of any good curriculums. I just go with the flow for my kids. I started them on Baby Einstein Spanish DVD's. I also have a rule that if they want to watch cartoons on Saturday or Sunday mornings, they have to watch one of the two local spanish channels. Now they love watching "Plaza Sesamo" (Sesame Street) and "Bob el constructor" (Bob the builder) and others. We also borrow a lot of DVD's and books from our local library, they not only have a spanish children's section, but a lot of the regular DVD's have a Spanish language option. From that and me throwing some spanish at them every once in a while, they have picked up bits and pieces. We also love to vacation in Mexico where they have also enhanced thier spanish. Actually my 5 year old can understand most anything in Spanish although she's still shy about speaking it.

Are you looking for freebies or to spend money? I use edhelper.com for lots of freebies, although they have a membership and you can get access to additional things. I teach both Spanish and Math at the HS level.

I have spent a couple minutes looking for the set that has won awards but I cannot remember it's name. Muzzy? Muffy? It's a little pricey but has won awards and is supposed to be good.

I just speak Spanish to my kids. when we practice colors, I do it in both languages. When we are counting, first it's Eng, then Esp. When I call to them to "come here", I say it in Spanish. That is just how I have always done it, so they know.

It is better to start at an early age and I am happy to hear you want to begin this.

OK ... back again. It is MUZZY. If you go to eBay you can search it with "Muzzy Spanish" and there are options. It's a little pricey, but has gotten good reviews and it sounds like you need to learn the language yourself.

!Buena suerte! (Good luck!)
