*** Homeschool List ***

I wonder if they will offer the same deal they did in Jan. with hs days....we got the 5 days of park hopping and 4 vouchers to water parks and DisneyQuest for $142 each.

I would be interested in that again.

I would also like to see when free dining is for this fall. I would like to get free dining for at least part of the time and really eat at some of the places we never go to because of cost.

I told DH that I would like to get free dining and stay in a resort for just 3 days and ONLY concentrate on visiting the resorts, walking around Downtown Disney and eating......some of those places can take a couple of hours to get a table and really eat, so I hate to waste my park time on it! :rotfl:

Then I will get a discount condo for the week we hit the parks!

Dawn

Okay, more research here...apparantly you could get the discounted tickets if you buy at least 10 youth tickets. The parents would then be able to get the tickets for the youth prices too, also you can use them for 1 week after the beginning date.

Bad news is it has to be purchased with a youth organization check.

Good news is that they ARE having a Disney Homeschool Days in Sept. that everyone is welcome to. They just aren't sure of the dates yet, but when they come out you have one week before the organized date and one week after to use your tickets.

I'm just going to cross my fingers for the date to be in the same time frame as the time we are down there!!!

From what she said today, it seemed like the prices would be the same:banana:
Free dining is nice, all you do is eat though:laughing: It was a wonderful experience being able to eat where ever you want and try all the great rests.

After this trip a couple of weeks ago, we decided we needed to go back and do the stuff we didn't do! All we did was the parks open to close and we missed taking our time and enjoying Disney.

I booked a condo today!!! It's official!!!

I used my SkyAuction cert. for a week and I got a GREAT place!!! I got a 2 bedroom at Silver Lake Resort ~ it's so nice:lovestruc

The dates are Sept. 27- Oct. 4th. We are going to go to MNSSHP, Blizzard Beach and SW and that is pretty much it! If DHD happens to fall during that time we will pass up SW and just go to Epcot and MK.
We want to relax and trade pins and just have an enjoyable, easy going week.

It is a surprise for the kids ~ we will tell them the day we leave, Friday Sept. 26th that we are going to Columbia to the zoo for the weekend which we do every year. Then we will tell them about Disney when we get to the area of Columbia:wizard:

Sorry, I meant that I hate to waste my PARK time on free dining.

Wow, you already booked? I do have 2 more weeks of SkyAuction getaway weeks purchased, but if I mentioned this to DH now he would FLIP!

Anyone know if they will do the January dates again? I have 2 other families who want to go with us if we do the Jan dates.

Yes, booked yesterday:goodvibes I had to because I had not seen that nice condo resort on Sky Auction before, and I have wanted to stay there in the past because it is so nice! They have a rule ~ one stay every 4 years:sad2: We'll just have to really enjoy it!!!

We figured the trip won't cost too much, nothing like this past one. The condo is paid for, we'll have to pay for gas, about $250.-300.m we just need tix to MNSSHP which will be about $200.00, we have tix to BB and we are stockinig up on our trading pins as we go, ordering them from a great dealer on ebay, and we'll only need a couple of days of parking. We don't eat out so we don't have that expense. We won't buy a lot of souvies because the kids spent hundreds each on this past trip.
Like I said, it will be a relaxing week at a wonderful condo but with a little Disney fun thrown in:wizard:

I'm pretty sure they will do Jan. again, she said they always do it twice a year, and last year they did Jan. too so It's very likely!
I will miss the wonderful weather and extra low crowds, but after talking about it, we really miss MNSSHP too much!!!

I decided to let my DD homeschool starting Jan. 2008. This is a first for us. She is 11th grade. I am thinking now that I'm in over my head. Her classes:

OK Here is the KICKER:

She wanted to take PHYSICS!!!
She is very good with math. Has had Alg. 1, Alg. 2 with Trig. , Geometry and was the only 10th grader inducted in to Mu Alpha Theta. She wanted pre-cal with the home school program but they didnt offer.

But.... Mommy didnt take physics in highschool or college

So now I am a 41 year old highschool physics student. So far I have read 1/2 of chapter 1 and understand most- didnt try the math though- nurses only need basic algebra and my brain was already tired.

Any physicists or engineers out there? Or any suggestions from more seasoned homeschool moms?

We just started homeschooling our 14 year old after a trial run at the public high school.

I asked a friend about physics; she plans on her husband using Saxon Physics to teach her two.

I didn't want to worry about grading English or pushing to get it done (neither one of my boys ever wants to write) so we're using BYU's online English classes. Their fee is very reasonable - $120/course. The link is elearn.byu.edu. Since it's an accredited high school, it should be accepted everywhere. They do have Physics courses.

There are several online high schools - University of Illinois (at somewhere beginning with a C), the University of Nebraska, if I remember right, and so on.

MIT's opencourseware might be another choice - they're free videos of courses available on their website. http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/hs/intro-courses/physics/index.htm

I just ordered some DVDs from the Teaching Company about particle physics and quantum mechanics for ds14. I had the traditional forces, electricity, magnetism, etc. physics long, long ago. But realistically, I don't have the time to learn everything. The good thing about homeschooling high schoolers is that there's all this cool elective room in their academic lives.

I hope this helps!

We are planning on going as well in Sept 08' I think might have to get some Lime Green T-shirts and have them say DIS Homeschooler or I am a DIS Homeschooler.

What do you think... LOL

Praying hard that we get the FREE Dining!

:) You could try bjup.com which is Bob Jones curriculum and purchase the DVDs for Physics. It is a full course with a teacher on the DVDs...just another option although a pricey one. ooops this was meant for sparkie, sorry

Isn't Sept extra low crowds? I thought it was.

What is MNSSHP?

I would really like to go between Thanksgiving and Christmas as I have heard that is really a great time to go.

It is low crowds, but over the years it has gotten a lot busier because of the free dining.

MNSSHP is Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.
It is select nights in Sept. and Nov. from 7-12am.
You trick or treat, face paint, all kinds of fun stuff~ it's so fun!
The parade and Hallo-Wishes are incredible!

I hope you get the free dining too!!!

I think the T-Shirt idea is great! Lots of DISers do it. I would love to do it too, but just never was creative enough:laughing:

I did make LGMHPC's this past trip though!!!

Hmmmm.....I have an embroidery machine......maybe I could do a lime green bandana or button. I even have a Disney embroidery machine! Could stick mickey on there too.

I think I will tentatively *plan* to do 4 to 5 nights at a Disney resort if they have free dining and just do dining and the Disney Quest and water parks those days. Then I will book a week through SkyAuction condo and do the 5 day park hoppers then.

I just can't actually book yet.

That's a great plan. Doing the dining is a vacation in itself:laughing: We really didn't have much time to do anything else those 11 days. Everything revolved around ADRs.

Staying a week after and doing the 5 days is good too. Sounds great.

I would have waited to book if I hadn't seen Silver Lake Resort. I had never seen it on there before, just the same Orbit One, etc.

Silver Lake looks extra nice and I really wanted someplace nice and luxurious since we'll be spending a lot of time there this time;)

Ok, lost me again....what is ADR?

How long are you staying at Silver Lake? 2 full weeks?

I am really afraid to ask DH right now about it....

Maybe if we stayed 2 full weeks at a condo we would afford to eat some Disney places we don't normally eat. I should run the numbers and see which would work better.

ADRs are advanced dining reservations. What you need to make to eat at Disney at the time you want, esp. during free dining.

Also, dining isn't really free anymore...you now have to pay 18% tip and tax. That's alot when you're meals are $30.00 a person x 5.

Also, we ran the numbers last year. You pay for the room, say $175.00 a night for a room 5 will sleep ~ Port Orleans Riverside.

Then you have to pay for at least one day at a theme park. That's $70.00 a person.

Say you have your own Homeschool tickets, you'd just pay the room rate per night and the one park day per person (that's required wheter you need it or not) Then you'd pay the tax and tip everywhere you eat.

No, we're only staying one week, that's all they had at Silver Lake anyway. That one week.

No posts for 5 days???? what is up people????

We were supposed to go out tonight but my 3 year old has come down with a fever. I just called to cancel and to cancel the babysitter. We haven't had a babysitter and just gone out with the 2 of us in over three years!!!!!

Sorry about your date night. I know how it feels to need some adult time. But they are only small once so enjoy your mommy time.:)

I suppose we are all busy schooling. so no time for Dis. YEAH Right! My DH calls me addicted. I'm busy planning our trip in Sept and can make ADR's march 8th. I have been consulting the kids on what they would like to do while there. I'm trying to find a way to get a little education for them about WDW in the process.
The kids hate going on vacation as I always find something to study before we leave and always something to see or do while there that has educational overtones.

Oh well back to school.:goodvibes

Have a great weekend;)

Scouts has pretty much taken over our lives lately

A friend start a science co-op. We've had a lot of fun so far
She picked up the Chemistry curriculum/kit at Target for around $20.
It looks like after we finish the Chemistry that we will try to find something else and continue to meet 1x a week
