Homeonwer's Insurance: Which one do you have, and would you recommend?

We have Amica and have been very happy with them. I like the fact that the customer service agents are honest and give you advice that benefits the customer rather than the company. Plus I have an old house with knob and tube wiring and many insurance companies wouldn't even insure me. Amica was also willing to sell me earthquake insurance.

We have had Allstate for our cars and home for as long as I can remember. We had one claim once for our car which was stolen in front of our home many years ago. No problems with our claim. Our home insurance we also had that one claim when the car was stolen. The items in the car were covered under the home owners insurance. Again claim/refund was done in timely manner. My sons did switch. One has GEICO, my other son not sure. I know they don't have the best prices. I also feel the new company seems to be a little less at first but they catch up in no time. Good luck!

I've had Allstate for 32 years on my home, and 42 years on my car. One auto claim 40 years ago, one homeowners claim about 20 years ago. Rates never went up. Claims were quickly resolved to my satisfaction.

When I price shop other companies, if I can get cheaper homeowners, the auto goes up more than the savings, and if I get get cheap auto, the homeowners goes up more than the savings.
I like the service I have received from Allstate for my homeowner and auto insurance but honestly, they rarely hear from me unless I'm paying my bill and sometimes complaining about it. It does get annoying that every year my car is worth less and less and I pay more and more to insure it. I was told the same thing about the rates going up every year. It has to do with Hurricane Sandy or other storm they'd paid claims for. I'm ready to explore options too.

The last couple years they have been driving me crazy with "required" information requests every 6 months on my auto insurance. How many miles are driven on each car, who is the registered owner, things that haven't changed in 30 years. Not sure if it is them, or if my new agent just doesn't do the legwork my old agent did before he retired.

They even made my mom come in to the agent's office to a few years ago "prove" that her 10 year old car only had 10,000 miles on it. She had been with Allstate 50 years, and even before she retired and was still commuting to work, she never drove more than 3,000 miles a year.
But when we have had a need for service, they were great.
