Homemade Pizza Dough

We love pizza and I would really like to make our pizza homemade rather than buying all the pre made box items, but, I haven't found an easy dough recipe that my husband likes yet. I know many of you cook from home the majority of the time so what are all of you doing for dough and does it save or freeze well?
 
i use the frozen pizza dough from my supermarket. It comes in dough balls. Usually 2 to a pack for about $4-$6.
 
Get a bread machine. Most of them have a setting to make dough. Best part is you can put the ingredients in and set it have the dough ready right at the time you want it.
 

If you have a food processor, the Wolfgang Puck recipe is very easy.

It beats most restaurant dough for flavor and texture, and pre-frozen isn't in the same universe.

This recipe freezes well, so you can make a lot and freeze your own dough balls. Good-quality yeast is CRUCIAL to having it come out properly. The one issue that I have had with it is that I find that a bit less flour works better for the texture; so I would advise adding the flour gradually and stopping when you are happy with the texture, even if you don't put in as much as the recipe calls for.
 
If you're in a pinch, and depending on they type of crust you're looking for, the Mama Mary's thin crust pizza crusts are really good, and about half the cost of Boboli :thumbsup2
 
I use the master bread recipe from the book Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day. Making the dough is easy. Get a big container and mix water, salt, yeast and flour together. You let it rise for a few hours than the dough can be stored in your fridge for up to 2 weeks. It makes awesom loaf bread or artisan bread also.

We use Allrecipe pizza doughs. We do have a bread machine but when we are the camper we use the Grill Pizza dough recipe. That site is really great especially if you take time to read reviews and follow some of the suggestions. Pizza dough is super simple to make and can also be frozen. Happy Cooking!
 
I used to work at a pizzeria and we used to sell our dough. Most family owed/small pizzerias will do this and its cheap. I would rather do that than buy all the ingredients.
 
We use Betty Crocker's recipe in our bread machine. We swap out salt for Garlic salt and it's perfect.

How many ingredients do you think dough takes? They charge 5.00 a ball for dough at the local pizza places here and it is definitely cheaper to buy the ingredients for pizza

Flour
yeast
water
salt
sugar (to activate yeast)
oil of some kind (tiny amt)

That is all it takes to make dough.

That's it. The hardest part is the kneeding (although as a child we thought it was fun!) and then letting it rise (all day works!).
 
Here is the recipe that use the time. We love it!

4 cups flour
2 cups water
1 pkg yeast (3 tsp)
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp olive oil
1 egg

Knead for 5 minutes. Let rise 1 time. Makes 3 median size cookie sheets of pizza. Bake at 425 degrees.

I often buy the frozen loaves of bread dough and make them into stromboli or pizza. Trader Joes also has pizza dough balls in the refrigerated section. I think they are $.99.

^^^This bread is amazing! I make it all the time for bread, pizza, calzones, pizza pinwheels, cinnamon rolls, etc. Also love the buttermilk bread recipe in the book. Check it out at the library or google Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day!

The longer you let it "rest" the better. It's not as good as a pizza restaurant's, but better than frozen.

Thank you for sharing this. I plan on try this recipe. I plan on making 3 small personal pizzas. I figure each one on my family can make their own pizza.

I have a question. How do i freeze this. Is it better to just freeze the round pizza dough until i'm ready to make it or make my round pizza doughs and add topping then freeze???Oh and these will be the personal size that i will be freezing.
Do i put these in freezer ziploc bags?
