Homemade Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches..

Hi Minnie, thanks for sharing the link for the dessert party - that looks like it might be a good option! Also, I'm glad you like the cookie site. Anything we find like that makes life a little better for our PA/TNA kids. :thumbsup2

We were last in Disney in 2011. My DS has a peanut allergy. Back then the ice cream cookie sandwich at Sleepy Hollow's was fine. We are going back this Summer and will check again as suppliers and production methods can change. Fingers crossed as he did love them.

Will do - on our final countdown now. Most restaurants were really good and often the chefs would come out to speak to us prior to ordering. The only exception was Coral Reef where we were met with 'who is the allergy?'. Our server wouldn't let us have chocolate as "chocolate is a nut" and wouldn't let us do any substitutions.

Chocolate is a nut?! Lol!!! We have reservations for Coral Reef, should be interesting. Hopefully they've been educated since then.

We had such a laugh at Coral Reef. It ended up being so bad it was funny. Our waitress was like Roz from Monsters inc. The funniest part was when she suddenly appeared saying "Is everybody happy?" We all nodded at once. Two years on someone in the family will still suddenly pipe up "Is everybody happy?"

I read that in her voice..lol. At least it gave you a funny memory! When stuff like that happens, all you can do is go with the flow and laugh about it later.

From personal experience, I have eaten the ice cream sandwiches all around WDW with no problem. I do have an issue with cross contamination with peanuts and have never had a single reaction :) I will say that I'm extremely careful with peanuts, I don't go into anaphylactic shock but I become physically ill for 4-8 weeks if I accidentally anything with peanuts or made with peanut oil (no, I'm not exaggerating).

Does anyone know if the homemade ice cream cookie sandwiches at Magic Kingdom are safe for a peanut allergic person? The ones that used to be at the bakery on main street? I emailed Disney Diets and was told the cookies are made in a facility that also processes peanut products. That is not a problem with us as long as it's not on the same machinery, she said nothing about the ice cream. So I sent her another email asking if it was made on the same machinery or just in the same facility and also asked about the ice cream. Of course then I got the standard "ask the chef when you get there" reply. Apparently I asked too much. From experience we've learned the minute we say peanut allergy, they immediately say no and steer us to gluten free. I'd really like to get this information in advance. My son really wants to try one. Done anybody know?

You've had no problem with the homemade ice cream sandwiches where you pick the ice cream and they put it together for you?

My son swells up, gets covered in hives, and vomits if he ingests peanut protein. It has only happened once, when he was 2. He's 15 now.

I've personally had no problem with these ones. I have purchase and eaten these at several locations at WDW, especially EPCOT at FountainView and at MK. These were the ones that you choose the ice cream. :) I'm overly careful because, as I mentioned, I become ill for weeks.

Awesome!!! I figured the ice cream was ok but couldn't find any info on the cookies. Thank you for posting! :-) :-) :-)

My DD is tree nut/coconut allergic, & we have always avoided even asking about the hard ice cream (even though I know vanilla Edy's is safe for sure), because I figured they would have other flavors that weren't safe & there would be a risk of them using the same scoop in the vanilla as in another ice cream she could be allergic to. I've also asked at the "Dino-Bites" in AK if the ice cream cookie sandwich is ok for her and they said it is made in same facility so we avoided that. Where are the cookies exactly that are safe??

They have some safe flavors set aside to be used for allergic people. If you mention the allergy, they will usually have a manager prepare your ice cream. He/she will change gloves, use a clean scoop, and use the set aside/uncontaminated ice cream. DD is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts and she was able to have an ice cream sundae with hot fudge and whipped cream last time!

We've always avoided it too, but when I found out the cinnamon rolls at Gaston's are safe and the cupcakes at Be Our Guest are safe, I thought maybe there were other treats around the parks that might be ok too and we just had to dig a little deeper to find out. My son is soooo excited to be able to eat hard ice cream for once, instead of just the soft serve. From now on, instead of just avoiding, assuming he can't, we will ask.

The ice cream cookie sandwiches that we ate were at Sleepy Hollow. That was in 2011 so when we go to Disney next week we will check before ordering as things can change. If they are approved we will let you know if he has safely consumed them.

:thumbsup2 I am allergic to tree nuts and coconut and have had the ice cream sandwiches from around WDW. We always ask them to use a clean scoop and I have never had a problem. :)

The chocolate chip cookies are tollhouse and they have a cross contamination warning on them. I've had chefs tell me they are fine and then I ask but do they have the toll house chips they say yes and then recheck and realize they were wrong. The cross contam warning is just to be very cautious and 99.99% of the nut allergic people would probably be fine but you need to consider the severity of your allergy before risking it. I eat toll house chips at home because my nut allergies have not been severe thus far but I don't on trips because I worry that if they are saying they aren't safe they could have other cross contam issues. Sleepy Hollow serves nutella now and generally weren't able to accommodate many allergies before so they are regretably off my list for next trip.

Well that stinks. We stay away from Nestle. It would be so simple for them to use safe chips so more people could enjoy these treats. We use Hershey chips at home, which are safe. Oh, well. Thank you for letting us know! :-)

Yes it would be but since nestle sponsors them they have to use nestle products.
