Homemade facial cleanser/moisturizer????

I was just about to ask what the OP uses for a sunblock. Natural things are all well and good if they are cheap, effective and really work. However, some people mistakenly believe if it's natural, then it has to be good and better than chemical products. That's not always the case. Arsenic and cyanide are both "natural" ingredients, and they can kill.

Whoa! Professional ceramic artist here :wave2: (among other things,) I know a lot about clay and harvesting it from different parts of the world and the different mineral makeup etc., as they do different things to clay bodies and glaze results.

Not all earth clay is created equal. Unless her family has owned that patch of land for eons and she knows exactly what has been put/in on the soil, whether or not there is ground water seepage from neighboring areas like landfills, toxic waste plants, raw sewage, that may contaminate the land from underneath (think: the Erin Brockovich movie.) Also, generally, clay and soil are "living." There are bacterial and microorganism levels and nearly invisible insects and feces in the soil and clay. She could be putting a very dangerous to deadly substance on her skin.

All ingredients that go into cosmetics, made by manufacturers, have to be approved by the FDA to be cosmetic grade ingredients. That usually means they are purified and sterilized in such a way as to kill any harmful bacteria and microorganisms.

As I stated, "natural" does not always equate to safe and healthy.

BTW, I know the two posters are kidding about Ajax & Comet, both of them are made from the clay mineral feldspar. It proves my point that the "clay" part may be good, what else goes in it can be bad for skin. :crazy2: I prefer Bon Ami. ;) :teeth:
Yuck. I had no idea.

Perhaps this family member of mine is a little more "hippie" and a little less "green"...

:headache:
