I want to save money and make my own - I want to be able to do the egg patty and then keep them in the freezer or frig - and everyday put together, pop in into the Microwave and make my own sandwich and not be going to Mickey Ds....
Can I use like "egg beaters" and bake them in muffin pans? Has anyone tried this...do you have any other ideas for the egg patties??
Do they sell slightly larger muffin pans than the regular size ones?
Thanks...Barb:confused3

You can actually buy muffin pans that just make the tops of the muffins, that would give you a larger, flatter piece of egg for your sandwich.

You could also bake the eggs on a cookie sheet and cut them out with a biscuit cutter when they're done but that would leave you with some egg scraps if you did it that way.

I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to bake the egg beaters. :)

I usually use an egg poaching pan. The one I have makes 5 at one time. Just break the york a little before you cook them and cook until the yolks are hard. Works great.:thumbsup2

We have egg rings like these:

When my husband wants to make an egg mcmuffin sandwich at home, this is what he uses. They come out the perfect size to fit on an English muffin. I don't see why you couldn't make them ahead of time.

*This pic came from the Williams-Sonoma site, but you can also buy them at restaurant supply stores.

I worked at a place once where we made breakfast sandwiches.
We actually used something that went in the microwave. It was plastic, and had a lid. You mixed the egg a little and put it in for a minute or so.. and it tasted EXACTLY like the egg on an Egg Mcmuffin.

I haven't seen one around but I haven't really looked.. perhaps a kitchen supply store?

It looked like this..

I have also had decent results by just using a coffee mug in the microwave.

I make these all the time. They are so quick and easy you won't need to make them ahead of time.

Need:
an english muffin
a slice of american (or whatever) cheese
a egg
about a teaspoon of water

1.put english muffin in toaster
2. spray small microwavable bowl with cooking spray. I use a ceramic bowl about 4 inches across.
3. Crack an egg into it, add water and mix
4. Microwave for 90 seccond.
5. Put the cheese on the english muffin right when it comes out.
6. Toss egg onto the muffin/cheese.

Enjoy!

From walking into the kitchen, this take under 5 mins.

Walmart sells the egg and sausage pattys in their freezer section. They aren't the cheepest way to go but are very good. You can get a package of 16 for about 3.50 so 7 for both. You just pop the egg and sausage patty in the micro for 1 min and toast your english muffin then slap some cheese and the egg and sausage in. It's very good and filling I find it hard to eat one whole one. In under 10 minutes I can have 6 made up for the whole family I just wrap in foil and grab juice boxes and its a quick and cheap breakfast. Beats McD's for sure.

This is exactly how I make an Egg McMuffin. Couldn't be easier.

I bought this egg-making thing at Wal Mart for $1.99 --- I don't know the name of it, but it's specifically for making "egg mcmuffins". It's plastic with a hinged lid. You crack the egg in it, break the yolk, cook it for 1 minute in the microwave and that's it.

I found it in the section where the pot/pans are. They have one aisle with all sorts of gadgets hanging. You can probably find it there.

I use this too! It works really awesome, tastes just like an egg mcmuffin. I think in my Wal-Mart they had it in the aisle with all the small kitchen appliances like coffee makers, griddles, etc. :thumbsup2

The bowl from Lean Cuisine Steamer Bowl meals works perfectly to cook egg beaters into the exact shape needed to go on an english muffin or a hamburger bun and the eggbeaters don't stick to them.

(On my dietician created eating plan, I eat a half-cup of egg beaters every morning, along with some carbs. . .I make egg sandwiches in one form or another every day!)

Is this something you pay for or something through your health plan?

I had a ceramic bowl that was PERFECT size for these and I would nuke an egg in it while the english muffin was toasting. I did these a lot for a while.

I think it took 2 min. max.

DH's mom used to make them ahead of time and freeze them for him to take to college with him though.

I make a diet-friendlier version of the Egg McMuffin that my family calls the "Egg McMEM". I use liquid egg whites ("All Whites" brand), whole grain English muffins, shaved/chipped turkey ham and a Laughing Cow cheese wedge smeared on the toasted muffin, just before adding the cooked egg and lightly sauteed turkey ham. Tastes fattening but isn't!

We usually don't keep english muffins on hand so we make a different version using toast. I make the egg in a ceramic bowl in the microwave - one egg slightly mixed with 1 teaspoon of water cooked for 90 seconds (like some of the PP). My kids prefer bacon so we use 2 pieces of toast, 1 pc of american cheese, egg, and 1 or 2 pc bacon (we use the microwave kind from Costco). Very yummy and fast on school days!!

I love egg McMuffins.I like making them at home while still in my pj's at 5am.
I use a tuna can with the bottom and top removed for the eggs.
I have a special toaster (Paula Dean) to make them with but it was too much clean up.
My friend suggested the tuna can (she worked at MD) so much eaiser.
I use one pan for egg and canadian bacon, plus toaster for the muffins.

mamo, you just beat me to it. I was about to suggest the tuna cans. Same size as the egg rings PP showed. And as we are on the budget board, basically free!
