I need a cute gift for my third graders to make for their parents. I've tried pinterest, but nothing has caught my eye. Has your child made something at school that you treasure? It is a Christian school, so nativity based gifts are great too. Thanks!

My mom still loves the Popsicle stick frame ornament I made in kindergarten. Either let them pain the sticks or start off with green sticks. Some glue and glitter pompoms etc. Snap a picture ( we used Polaroids, but perhaps you could borrow someone's instant photo printer or possible do the photos in advance) and tape the photos in the frame. Teacher/helper hot glued a hook to the back. You could also tie pipe cleaners to the edges to hand.

When DD was little we would make ornaments every year. One of the favorites was one of the little 2 in clay flower pots. She turned them upside down and painted them. I got jingle bells that were bigger than the whole in the pot. Ran ribbon through the jingle bell and the inside of the pot. They turned out cute and we still put them on the tree.

When I was about that age we used puzzle pieces to make wreath and Christmas tree shaped ornaments. We started by painting all the pieces green and then glued them together and used the smallest craft balls to add holly berries and ornaments. We topped it off with a pretty ribbon. They turned out really cute and my mom still hangs them on the tree every year. I also have a glittered pinecone ornament that my kindergartener made last year at her school.

One of my favorite ornaments is a simple little stocking maybe only 6 inches or so high with the front cut out and a wallet size school picture in it. It's hung on my mothers tree for almost 30 years now and it's unbreakable.

I have to echo the ornament idea. I have 4 kids and we LOVE the ornaments that the kids have made over the years. If you can get a photo of the child to put on the ornament, it is even better.

I love the handprint snowman ornaments my children made. You dip hand in white paint. Place palm on bottom with fingers up along the ball. Then with sharpie draw snowman stuff on the finger snowmen.

I love the hand print crafts too. My favorite handmade gift was the turkey hand cut out of paper with the poem written on it for Thanksgiving. The teacher had it laminated which was wonderful. I also have a red valentine heart with some sweet words written on it which was laminated.

DH had a snippet on his face book feed to make dough, roll it out, press handprints, cut them out leaving a border, put a small hole in top to hang and bake. They were painted to look like Santa. We are going to try out tomorrow or Thursday depending on what life stuff gets in the way.

I did something similar when I taught 3rd grade. I took pictures of each kid and glued it to the middle of an old CD (the title side). I glued a ribbon to that same side for hanging. Then the kids took puzzle pieces and glued them into a wreath shape around the outside. I picked a puzzle that was all green & blue but you could also paint them before you glue. The ribbon edges were hidden under the puzzle pieces and the back of the ornament was the shiny CD side.

I had planned to put them in old CD cases but the puzzle pieces made them too thick. Anyway, they turned out really cute and I wish I'd kept a picture of them.

I know as a parent, I love ornaments with my kids' pictures in them or handprints from earlier years.

I have a door plaque one of the kids did
It is a piece of wood - in this case aged barn wood- and they painted a Christmas Tree in it. Thumbtacks for ornaments. Welcome was stencil led on and it hangs in the door. If someone can tell me how to post a photo I will

In art my kids did aluminum tracing things for years

As others have said anything with their picture or handprint are wonderful. They are one of the items we keep because those types of things are so special.

For Mother's day last year my Kindergarner decorated a ball jar with tissue paper and it was a Happyiness Jar. There was a little poem that said something about any time you're sad, reach in and read one of the pieces of paper.

They were about how much he loved me, favorite thing about mom, what he'd buy me if he had $100 etc. It was extra cute in K because they were still learning to write ad have no concept of money or anything.

You could probably age it up a bit and make it a Xmas jar or bible verses or something.

i have lots of things my kids made over the years but with the Christmas themed ones I only see/use them once a year so I like the things that are more year round friendly.

THE BEST/MOST USED item one of my kids ever made at school was a simple trivet. you go to a home improvement store and get the kind of tiles (6"x6" works fine) that are used for countertops or backsplashes (some stores have very cheap left overs-for a school they may donate them to you), glue felt on the back (to prevent scratching tabletops or existing counters) and have the kiddos paint something on the front (or do a handprint). use heat resistant paint. I use mine constantly.

I just saw in a magazine (I think it might have been the WalMart magazine from the US - I get it on Next Issue) how to make a snow globe out of an empty jar. Basically, you glue some plastic toys/decorations on the inside of the lid, fill the jar with with water, glycerine and glitter and glue on the lid. Then cover the lid with washi tape or some other decoration. I think these could be really cute!

Ornament. The most memorable we have from school is from 2nd grade -- like 4-5 different size posterboard circles, with his picture as the first, a decorated circle (glued wrapping paper), the year as the 3rd, another decorated circle, and then a picture of him and his teacher on the largest circle (which is about 4" X 4"). It's all tied together with a ribbon.

It's so great to have a picture of a favorite teacher with him.
