The United States government's national threat level is Elevated, or Yellow.
For all domestic and international flights, the U.S. threat level is High, or Orange. See the Transportation Security

Last terror attempt in US was Christmas Day.
Foiled by the own terrorist errors.

Anyone else have my concerns about flying Easter weeks ?

It's been at orange for years now. Flying is still the safest way of traveling, period. Have a good trip.

Do you fear getting your car to drive to work? If not, then you shouldn't fear flying, even if the status was Red.

I have absolutely no concerns. Last time I flew, which was in Nov 2009, BEFORE the Christmas Terror attempt, the threat level was also at Orange, as I recall. NOTHING has changed since then to cause me any concern.

Yes and No. LOL. Nothing like having a clear answer for you Pooh. ;)
There are a few things I need to disclose.

1) I have been blessed lately with the opportunity to visit some amazing places in the world. Getting out of my comfort zone, exposing my teens to other places and cultures is not an experience I'm willing to give up.

2) Remember air travel is still pretty safe. It just makes better news than car crashes.

3) I would love to see the US catch up on security with other places and I think in time we will.

4) there is some level of faith I have ot have in our homeland security, the only alternative is to not travel. I will try to do my part and be observant and follow all the rules.

So in a nutshell. Yes, I'm a bit concerned over the security warnings. Is it enough to prevent me from travelling. Not yet.

Unfortunately that orange level is like the boy who cried wolf. It has been at orange for years. That doesn't mean that it is less safe to fly, which is already pretty much the safest way to travel.

If anything, things are safer now than they were 10 years ago. Just a short while ago in US airports one could go to the gate as a non-flyer, one didn't have detailed security measures, etc. So while the security in the US isn't where it could be, it is better than it was.

I know that many of you have been very fortunate not to be exposed to as much terrorism, bombings, etc whether on the street or in public places. But we have learned to balance our fear with logic and rational behaviour and watchfulness.

As an example, I was on the Paris metro awhile back and there was an announcement that due to a possible bomb the train would not stop at the next major station but would pass through. Most people got off as they had to find a different connection, but a few of us stayed on as we would just ride through the potential bomb area and get off later at our usual stops. I speak French pretty fluently but was reading a book in English, so the old man near me tried to tell me in broken English what happened. To all of us, French or German, it was just part of our daily life, and nothing that we feared.

I have travelled to many parts of the world which your government lists as 'unsafe' on the warnings page. But the security is usually much more intense than in America so I don't feel unsafe, and often in those parts of the world personal crime is lower too.

It's ok to feel some fear, but I strongly encourage educating yourself on the statistics of plane travel as being rational and logical can help to override that fear.

It would take a LOT to get me to stop flying and travelling to the places I visit.

The terror color chart is as effective of a tool as phrenology and every other discredited pseudo-science there is.

Ignore it.

Security will not really improve until we drop these faux security measures that make the general public feel safe but don't actually do a darn thing!

All our security measures are reactive. It's late and I can't think of a good metaphor but until we implement proactive security measures that deal with threats long before they reach the airport then and only then will security be improved.

Right now security has not improved one bit since 9/11.

Has it been any color? It's one thing to be safe but life goes on. Greater chance of getting into a car accident.

The threat level is actually not to tell the passengers how scared they should be it is to indicate the level of security checks they are performing. I would be more concerned if they lowered the level because that would mean they would relax the security and allow more "unsafe" passengers on the plane.

I want them to keep checking everyone and everything.

Yep, it's been orange forever. I work in a Federal building and pass the organe sign every morning coming into the building. We fly alot for leisure flyers (12 times a year) and it's just not an issue anymore. Allow extra time if you are uncertain about getting around the airport, check your carrier for the times they want you to allow for security and the counter. Relax and follow procedures and you'll be OK.

Just do what you can to expedite the security check. I try to put as much as I can in my checked baggage now and try to avoid even bringing a carry on but with kids that's impossible. I just put everything in clear bags so if I can checked it can all be seen, make sure you have slip on shoes, etc. The rest is just out of our control....

Don't worry too much! :hippie:

hey! Funny seeing you here!

Hopefully this makes everyone feel better about Orange. Personally, Blue is my favourite colour.

What about nephrology (the study of kidneys/kidney disease) is a pseudo-science?

OMG I love this color chart!

Orange is the "new" green!

Fear is a great crowd control method. Complacency is bad, sure, but so is living in fear.
A couple of things will help prevent another 9/11, and that is the reinforced cockpit door and the willingness of fellow passengers to get involved (as witnessed on Christmas day, again).

There is never ever a guarantee of tomorrow. Live in the beauty of today.

That is one reason I love WDW! I can skip, giggle, and scream like a little girl! When it is my turn to leave this earth, my friends will say "she sure had fun!".

Don't be afraid to fly! It's fun! It's always a new adventure.

The 2010 version of me agrees!

(I was however trying to be pleasant and calming and resassuring and live up to my reputation by posting the Muppet version! :lmao: )
