Homecoming Question (HighSchool)

We do here. Girls usually get a wrist corsage instead of one that pins on...easier on the dress and on the boy trying to put in on her! ;)

Our high school did a casual homecoming dance this year - the theme was "Hoe down" and everyone was supposed to come dressed in casual stuff like jeans, overalls, cowboy hats, etc. I didn't see anyone with flowers. I thought it was very strange!!

Best to ask your daughter, cause in our school the dance is nothing really big at all! No one had flowers. It depends on where you live and how your school is.

I would just come out and ask her to prevent embarassment. Wouldn't wanna be the only girl with or without flowers!

I agree with Evil Princess. DD's high school had a semi-formal. She wore a nice dress, but her DBF wore khakis and a nice dress hirt (no tie). No flowers.

At DD's school the dance is semi-formal and they do buy corsages or boutiners for their dates. If DS does not feel comfortable asking his date (I am guessing he has one!) maybe he could ask a friend or someone that has gone to Homecoming before what is usually done. Another idea - does his highschool have a website? DD's school does and it lists lots of Homecoming info, ticket prices, dress code times and thing like that. Hope he has a great time. DD's dance is Saturday, they have "Spirit Week" this week. She is very excited (and so am I!!) I agree that a wrist corsage is probably the best too. I know DD's dress just has spaghetti straps, and not much room to pin a corsage in a "safe place" :o (if you know what I mean!) Most of the dresses we looked at were much the same

At my teens HS - the girls get corsages - most buy the wrist corsage. Guys will NOT wear a flower, I know because my son's sat in the refrigerator, as did his best friend's. I've only seen about 3 guys out of 300 wear one at the dance.

At my school, the homecoming dance isn't that big of a deal - it's mostly the carnival and football game that people care about.
Girls usually receive huuuge, extravagant mums from their dates - they usually have 3-4 feet of ribbon, bells, whistles, etc. hanging from the (fake) mum. We pin them on our shirts that day at school (usually takes 3 or 4 safety pins, lol) and wear them to the carnival we have during the school day. They're also worn at the big game that night.
Girls here give their dates bouttenirs (sp?) - miniature mums they wear around their upper arms...
But maybe that's just here in Texas - I've heard from lots of people up North that they've never even heard of a "Homecoming mum"....

It's funny how things are different from community to community, school to school. Our kids get pretty dressed up for homecoming. The girls wore long dresses, the boys wore suit or "the uniform" (navy blue blazer, khaki pants, tie). The girls all had wrist corsages and the boy all wore boutinaires. MY DS went two weekends ago and they got a limo, went to a nice restaurant and went to a after-party after homecoming. This is all pretty standard in our community. Most of the girls had their hair and makeup done also. I felt bad for the one girl, she had to spend the day at a cross-country meet and was not able to go to the hairdresser. She was the only one in my DS's group. He had 11 in his group, also how they do it, they all go in big groups. One girl did not get a date and she went along with his group. That also happens, if you don't get a date, you just go with your group of friends.

We had Homecoming a few weeks ago and I had a wrist corsage as did most of the girls at the dance.

This wasn't as big for Homecoming, but for prom last year a lot of girls got bouquets. Those were kinda neat!

The guys then got boutinaires to pin on their shirts and the garter for their arm.
