Spoiler alert: Yes, yes it is!

I am a North Carolinian who was super skeptical about this ADR, made by a friend who insisted. I know good home cookin’, and this place is the real deal.
The thigh-high chicken biscuits were delicious, but the stand-out for me was the Harvest Salad: grilled corn, icebox (ranch) dressing, tomatoes in season, and avocados. Do yourself a favor and sub grilled grouper for the usual chicken, you’ll be glad you did. I also had the Fig and Berries cocktail: muddled strawberries, fig jam, tequila, and left out the agave to cut the sweetness. It was fabulous.
We were too full for dessert, so I guess I’ll have to try the Hummingbird or Moonshine cake next time.

Make that ADR. You won’t be sorry.

Good to hear!! Glad to know it was worth the hype for you, it sounds like you had a great meal! My family is so excited for our reservation in November.

OP, maybe if we had tried the menu you had, ours would have been better? We had the chicken which was good, but have had the same at other restaurants. The mashed potatoes were Really mashed to the point of being liquid and needing a spoon to eat them! Not good. The hush puppies were okay, but not what I expected as a long time southern girl ( at one point:). We were underwhelmed with the entire meal and didn't order desert because of that. Maybe if we had ordered a little differently, we would have liked it? It's too bad because we were really looking forward to an excellent meal, and it wasn't, for us.
So, it's a one a done for us, which is too bad.....

We had the exact same meal and agree with you. The hush puppies had a really weird texture and were very bland. The Chicken was just OK, I felt like ours was not cooked at the correct oil temperature, as we had a bit that had an uncooked portion between the outside crispy part and the chicken itself, and it was greasier than other fried chicken we have had. I really disliked the mashed potatoes, they were so liquidy (not a word) and the only thing I could taste was butter, I have been known to eat only mashed potatoes for dinner and I gave up on these after a couple bites. It did not live up to the hype for us and the only thing we would come back for are the drinks as those were delicious.

I'm glad that it was not just us experiencing this. We were really hyped up about eating there, and it was our 50th anniversary dinner. To say we were disappointed is an understatement.

I thought we were the only ones who don't "love" it. It was just meh for us. The chicken batter was too heavy or something. I like a thin cripsy fried chicken and this was not that. It had too much breading. And I don't like the taste of thyme in the batter. The mashed potatoes were okay (not liquid-y) but more heavy food. Carb coma after we were done. I was bummed because it was the one I was looking forward to the most, but it's a one and done for us.

We had just the opposite opinion. I am from the Appalachian Mountains and found everything but the deviled eggs to be very average to below average. I admit to being a chicken snob but I have eaten at hundreds of small mom and pop restaurants in the South that do a far superior job to this place. If you aren't raised around southern food I can see how people might like the place.

We all really enjoyed this meal. But let me say first that I am not from the south (northern VA) nor do I "know" home cooking!! The best fried chicken we get is from Popeye's. So we all really did enjoy our chicken. My son got the BBQ, which I thought was really good tasting. My mashed potatoes were a little more "mashed" than I would have liked, but they did have a good flavor. Son ordered deviled eggs which were fine. Overall, though everything tasted really good. Hummingbird cake was the highlight. I've had this homemade a few times (it was a specialty of my MIL) and I was not disappointed with the cake. Service was excellent.
