Home... sad it's all over...

If you know you have a long time between trips, do lots if season-specific reading of the boards to decide what time of year you'd like to visit next time. You went in the summer. Read obsessively about fall, or Christmas, etc. There will be things you didn't get to do in summer that could help you decide when to go and the you'd be ready to book as soon as that time period came available. It's what I'm doing NOW..... :)

We go through the same thing too!! My husband said one big trip with the kids and then we are good!! We have been back with them 3 times and without them twice!! This year it is just the two of us. He is not big into theme parks and rides but he sees a whole other side to Disney! We are pretty pumped to go alone, he even has a countdown on his computer at work!!

Maybe try to think about what you enjoyed about the trip and then try to replicate that on a smaller scale at home. I know myself I get lazy at home. If I applied 1/10th of my Disney planning energy to planning our "off" time at home, I think it would cut back on that feeling. Even little things like seeing a show at a local theater group or finding a new restaurant or bakery. Part of the fun of WDW is all of the little things, but those little things exist all around us wherever we live too. I think the thing is, at home, it's easy to get stuck in the grind because of all that real life stuff we have to do.

Again this is all easier said than done :)

I think I said this on one o. the reports you did while you were still down there, but after all your planning and questions here I'm SO glad you guys had a good time :goodvibes But I am laughing b/c in all your before-trip posts when you mentioned this being your one and only trip it would go like this: someone would reply "oh, that was us, but once your DH goes he'll change hisUtley. Wpwon't.ou'l. Baby !" and you'd be like "oh no he won't, this will DEFINITELY be our only trip"...............lol see? We all knew he'd change his mind :thumbsup2;)

Definitely stay on the Disboards, it's a great way to stay on top of any/all changes that go on regarding MB's, FP's, closures, new rides/lands opening, etc. That way when you're ready to go back in a few years, you won't have so much to catch up on :)

Im Not saying we will for sure - Just maybe And it would be several years away So definitely wont be planning anything for a long time!

You may have caught the bug.;)

Glad it was a good trip. I thought about you a lot.

Part of why I wanted to go back after the first trip is that I saw so many things I wanted to do different. And I knew it would be so much easier after the first trip.

That was us 4 trips ago :rolleyes1

All it usually takes is that one trip, then they're hooked forever.....muahahahahahaaaa.

Ha ha - while we knew we would like it, the costs made us look at it as a 1-2 times in a childhood trip. After our first trip, we were so hooked we go back annually. DH likes amusement parks, but doesn't LOVE them. Well, he sure loves Disney and is always up for another trip :) He keeps talking about how nice it would be to do a couple's trip. I told him when the kids are grown...this Mama would feel wayyy too guilty.

Very true. I keep my eyes and ears open to stuff happening locally all the time and drag my family all over the place. One time I was gone for a month and when i got home, I asked my family what they did while I was gone. They basically stayed home every day and watched tv/movies. They're lucky they have me around!

Yup, best way to deal with an ended vacation is to start planning the next. I asm awaiting a kidney transplant which will end my rides for at least a year. So until then I go every July and December. Leaving Saturday for nine days!

I got back 4 weeks ago today and wish I back there already. Real life hit with a bang almost right away. One sister started chemo, another sister had major surgery and a young cousin's husband drowned. I have been helping out as much as I can with my sister's 2 kids along with babysitting another niece full time for the summer. Several times this single, childless aunt has had all 3 kids ages 5, 7, & 9 for a couple of days a time. One good thing is that all 3 kids love Disney so we've watched several Disney movies in between visits to parks, the library and bowling. I'm glad that my trip was planned for as soon as school got out before everything hit the fan.

That's awesome. I need to do that more!

Convince him that you need to go before the youngest turns 10! That's when Disney charges adult rates

Well, we're home! I'm sitting here staring at all the unpacking to do, and I'm so sad that it's all over. I can hardly believe we've been there and it's done. It was like a dream. We had a fantastic trip, I'll do some more specific reviews later but...

*sigh*

What do you do to fill that void? lol

On the plus side - when we went, we went knowing it was a one and done trip. DH had no interest in Disney, was only going for us (the kids and I). And... he is now open to a return trip someday! In a way, to him, it's just another theme park (he's really not a theme park guy), but he had a lot of fun, and said there's still so much we never got to see or do. And with all the renovations going on/supposed to happen in the parks, he did say it would be neat to go back when they're done and see the changes.

So, my hope is that someday, we'll get to go again. So many things I'd do differently, many things I'd do the same, but who knows what touring will be like by then, since if we do go again, I suspect, it'll be at least another 3-4 years, when the children are 12 & 9. But at least there's some hope of another trip someday, if all works out and we can save carefully.

I was like you after our trip last year and my wife was like your husband. She had a lot more fun than she expected and I believe I managed to partially convert her into a Disney fan. Somehow I convinced her to make this our family vacation for the 2nd year in a row and now she's already talking about planning another trip before our son starts Kindergarten.

Just start planning it. If you talk about it enough your husband might just give in and go with it!

WOW!Glad you got your trip in!:)

I am just coming OUT of a major family emergency and am going down Friday.:)

We never know when those emergencies are going to come so my motto is to work in as many WDW trips as POSSIBLE!!!!:)

We just got home a few hours ago, and I feel your pain !! We had such a great time (despite the nightly downpours!)

We were at Ohana on July 4th --- the night of the lightning strikes over the Castle--- ( -amazing pics on internet)

Was worried about the heat before we left ( from NYC) -- and while it was hot, we took our breaks, and we were fine - we kind of knew what to expect--- we went last July as well

It actually feels hotter in NY today !! Highlights---- our Via Napoli and Boma dinners--- Pirate and Pals party was amazing as always .

We loved the job they did with the Frozen Sing-along --- the Hyperion theatre is perfect for it !

We to "T-Rex" last night --- had a blast--- and then ended the trip with "La Nouba"

Came home today and saw that the cp packages were available--- booked via Napoli to see NPH - that took away some of the depression --- we are already getting ready for our thanksgiving trip !!

Have you seen NPH before? We've done the CP twice with him as the narrator once - he's awesome! Enjoy :)
We'll be there over Thanksgiving, too :goodvibes

I started scheming a return trip within the first week or two of our March trip. I got hooked on the Star Wars Weekends thread, and that's when we will return in 2016:( I am also secretly planning a surprise 45th birthday trip for myself during Food & Wine in a few years. Shhhh:ssst: I am keeping it a secret so that I will be surprised when I go:rotfl2: I don't know if DH would be up to the planning required for an F&W trip, since I am the one that plans all of our Disney trips. So, I will just do it for myself. We also thought our first family trip in 2012 would probably be our only one. We have now been on a Disney vacation of some sort (WDW, Disney Land, or DCL) every year since. I would go back more if I thought it was a good idea and had more vacation and money. Reading the boards helps and doing trip reports. They kind of help keep the magic alive. Good luck. I wish I knew a cure other than moving to Orlando and getting an annual pass:sad2:

i'm on that feels trip right now. last january was supposed to be our last trip till the kiddo graduates college. i've found listening to the area music loops lessens the sting a little. secondary bonus effect, it has worn down the husband with it's nostalgia to the point where hubby hasn't said "no" to a trip sooner than that.

Sounds about like us. My husband went grudgingly last year (also not a theme park guy), but over the course of the trip it went from "if we go back" to "when we come back". We're going back this year lol. I definitely recommend hanging around the boards--surprisingly answering questions and hearing about other people's trips didn't make me sad like I thought it would, even before we decided we'd go back this year.
