My DH and I have decided to buy a DVC, but are unsure of where to buy for our home resort. Is it hard to get reservations at other resorts in the summer months (july/Aug)?

In general, the summer months are not too hard to get at 7 months. We've had pretty good luck then. You might have problems getting some categories like BWV Standard View but in general it hasn't been too bad. Flexibility in either resorts or timing of the trip can increase your chances of success quite a bit.

However, current trends are no guarantee of future success. I would never suggest that someone buy a home resort that they wouldn't want to stay at. Ask yourself if you'd be "disappointed" to stay often at the resort you are considering buying points at. If your answer is yes, you should probably look at another resort you would always be happy to "fall back on".

Good luck with your decision process. :)

I think that it is important to really think about where you would like to stay and consider buying there.

We travel in the summer and so far, have been able to trade out at 7 months to both BCV and BWV (from BLT). However, at 6 1/2 months, those rooms were gone so if you are planning in advance, you should have luck getting to try other place.

If you are really unsure what resort you would be happy with if all others were not available, then just don't choose one you would be disappointed in if that is all there is.

We bought BLT because we knew, regardless of what happens, we would be okay if nothing was available to trade. Even when I called two weeks ago to try and get a BW view 2 bedroom for my August trip, I wasn't worried because had it not been available, I was booked at BLT and perfectly okay with that.

Good luck!

If you are flexible with where you stay or travel during slower times get the cheaper yearly fees (BLT, SSR). If you travel during busy times and want to stay at the smaller resorts (BWV, BCV) you should buy there.

I agree with PP, just remember that "busy park" time differs from "busy DVC" time.

When deciding, pick your favorite resort, the one you really want to be at. We usually take summer vacations, and even at 7 monthes, have usually gotten the resort we wanted to trade into, and if not had our home resort to fall back on. Good luck

The exact opposite is true for us -We have to vacation at spring break time -
"The Magic Season " so I followed the buy where you want to stay rule -that
way you will never be disappointed and I love the place the view and that
nice walk over to the MK -I will never be disappointed to stay there
Buy where you want to stay!
