I thought we understood this subject, but just recently a DVC sales agent explained home resort differently than we understood it.

We have a 200 point contract with SSR and added on 100 AKV points. We thought we could book 11 months in advance with our 200 points at SSR and 11 months in advance with our 100 points at AKV.

We were just told last week by a DVC sales agent while staying at VWL that the only resort you can book 11 months in advance is your original home resort (SSR) so regardless of how many points we add on to that contract, AKV or any other property, we can only book 7 months out with the "add on" points.

So if this is correct, we would have to purchase a new contract for any resort we wanted to book 11 months out. Does that make sense.?

TIA,

Jeff

The "sales agent" was WRONG. Each contract (original or add-on) is tied to a home resort. If you own a 100 point add-on at AKV, you can use those points at 11 months to make a reservation at AKV only. Now, if you want to make a 300 point reservation at AKV, you need to wait until 7 months to combine the 200 SSR points with the 100 AKV points. Perhaps that is the scenario the guide was thinking about.

That is correct. You will get the 11 month advantage at SSR if using only the SSR points. Likewise, you will get the 11 month advantage at AKV if only using the AKV points. You can't combine your SSR and AKV points to get the 11 month window at either SSR or AKV -- or any DVC resort, for that matter. So, yes you do have home resort advantage at SSR and AKV, you just can't mix up the points to get the 11 month window for your ressie at just one of those resorts.

For example, I booked a vacation in the 11 month window for AKV (my home resort). I wanted to move some of my BCV points to that vacation. However, since I originally booked the vacation in the 11 month window, I couldn't do it without cancelling the ressie and rebooking it. I wasn't willing to take the chance of losing my entire vacation if someone else snuck in there between the cancellation and rebook. What I WAS able to do was add an additional night (now we are in the 7 month window) and use my BCV points at AKV for just that night.

I hope this helps.....or have I confused you further.

That is the way we understood it before the sales agent confused us. 11 months for each set of points, and you can't combine for reasons explained by both of you.

We wanted to keep adding onto AKV, but wanted to clear this up first.

Thanks for the replies. :thumbsup2

Jeff -- I just noticed that you live in North Brunswick. Hey neighbor -- I am in East Brunswick and also am an AKV owner. I also just recently added on a small BCV contract.

It's a small world (pun intended) :goodvibes

Yeah, sure is. We live on the Farrington Lake side of RT130, our little girl will start Kindergarten at Our Lady of Lourdes on Tuesday.

We just stayed at VWL from 08/09 - 08/19, while there we stopped by BCV and managed to get a tour of a two bedroom which is what we had at VWL. It was nice. Our next trip in spring will probably be either the Tree Houses or BCV.

We plan to wait for the next big promotion and possilby add another 100 points to AKV, the Kidani village looks so cool.

We live off Cranbury Road (across from the Middlesex Cty Fairgrounds). My son is 4-1/2 and won't start Kindergarten until 2010. In the meantime, I am going to plan as many WDW trips as possible. I bought an AP and plan to activate it next March -- we'll be at Kidani in a 2BR with my parents and my two nieces. Can't wait.

In December 2010, I plan to pull my son out of school (K) the first week of December for a weeklong trip to BLT. I don't own there, so I don't know how much luck I will have at 7 months, but worst case scenario, we'll be at Kidani again (which isn't so bad anyway).

The following March 2011 (the week before my AP expires), I'm pulling my son out of school again and we'll be at BCV. I have a small contract with just enough points where I can bank and borrow to get a 1BR week-long trip there every 3rd year for spring break. So that gives me 3 trips within one calendar year in which to use my AP. This is going to be a very unusual year for us, going 3 times, and I doubt that will ever happen again.

I figure it's not as big a deal to pull him out and have him miss a week (or so) of kindergarten (it's only half day anyway) than it would be in 1st grade and up. I don't plan to pull him out at that point, so we'll be stuck to the school calendar. The first week of November (Jersey week) is always a good option, too. The weather is pretty good and the points are relatively cheap. Last year the EB schools were closed the entire week. This year, they are open 2 days that week.

One year, I'd like to do a cruise, but I may wait until one of the new ships launch in a couple of years. I see you've done a few cruises. My son and I love cruising but have not yet done a DCL.

Hope your daughter enjoys kindergarten!!!

Karen
