DW called me at work and asked me to come home for a few hours to help out.

We have not used our fireplace in a few years but I have also not cleaned out the ashes from the last few fires.

Enter my three year old who opened the glass doors and screen and proceeded to fling the ashes all over the living room!

She was assisted by my five year old daughter who decided to join in the fun and kept it quiet.

When DW came from the back of the house to check on them the damage had been done. She could taste the soot when she approached.

She was washing the first few layers out of their hair when I got home and I began cleaning the walls, entertainment center, all the furniture and the carpet.

So who wants to feel lucky and shakes hands with me?

Oh boy!!!! I must say I will skip on the shaking hands with you, but just have to say "Good luck!!!" You could always just skip the cleaning and do the rest of your room in that nice dk grayish color to match :p

The true victims were the small Kelly dolls that were scattered throughout the room. Since the soot was in their hair, we salvaged the outfits and threw them away.

Since some of them looked like pixies from Barbie's Rapunzel, I suspect this may not have been my daughters' handiwork at all, but an assualt from evil fairies or imps.

Seen any around here?

ROFL!! I wish y'all had taken pictures (or great if you did) -- this is something that when the kids get older you're going to look back and really laugh about! :teeth:

OMG Alan!! I feel for you & your DW. What a mess!!! I am however, ROTFLOL!!!! I know that it probably wasn't funny at the time........snicker, snicker... I also wish you had taken pics! Your DD's must have been shocked at the mess:D

a little like my sil's dd &ds when they were 5 & 4. ds got tired of waiting for a loose baby tooth to fall out so he tied a string to it and had his sister hold the other end. he then had her sit on teh couch while he climbed up on the back of the couch and jumped off. success tooth removed [the wrong one ha ha ha ha ha ha ha]:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I barely escaped a similar fate and gained a cordless phone from a similar incident about 10 years back.

Good luck with the clean up!

THAT's what I need to do, thanks for reminding me. Gotta tell hubby to clean out the fireplace.....
Of course my kids are old enough to know better, but after the squirrel episode, you never know.:)

OMG

You may actually want to consider calling someone like ServiceMaster to assist in the cleanup. You could actually CAUSE more damage yourself if done incorrectly.

(I work in insurance. It's best to call the pros to cleanup. In certain cleanups, like a furnace puffback, homeowners actually cause more damage by spreading the soot around & using wrong cleaners. Good luck.)

Maybe Trading Spaces will use this as an inspiration for a room for Hildy or Doug to do.

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee!
A sweep is as lucky
As lucky can be

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-oo!
Good luck will rub off when
I shake 'ands with you
Or blow me a kiss
And that's lucky too

Now as the ladder of life
'As been strung
You may think a sweep's
On the bottommost rung

Though I spends me time
In the ashes and soot
In this 'ole wide world
There's no 'appier bloke

Up where the smoke is
All billered and curled
'Tween pavement and stars
Is the chimney sweep world

When the's 'ardly no day
Nor 'ardly no night
There's things 'alf in shadow
And 'alf way in light
On the roof tops of London
Coo, what a sight!

I choose me bristles with pride
Yes, I do
A broom for the shaft
And a broom for the flume

Though I'm covered with soot
From me 'ead to me toes
A sweep knows 'e's welcome
Wherever 'e goes

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee!
When you're with a sweep
You're in glad company

No where is there
A more 'appier crew
Than them wot sings
"Chim chim cher-ee
Chim cher-oo!"
On the chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee
Chim cher-oo!

LOL!

I see your tags have been updated appropriately, Alan! :teeth:

Oh no! That sounds like something my kids would do.

We had a similar situation. DD#2 got ahold of an entire container of baby powder. It looked like a fresh snow fall in her room. It was no fun using a tootbrush to get into the groves of the furniture.
