Just saw a commercial which really said nothing about the movie itself but talked about the music (Bonnie Raitt, Tim Mcgraw, and KD Lange).
It must have been just awful. . .

MY dd11 loved the movie.

We tried to pre-order it but was told by our Disney store that they weren't doing pre-orders. Oh well.

Personal opinion: the worst Disney Animated Feature released in the theaters since Oliver and Company. Come to think of it, it was worse than Oliver and Company. Perhaps the worst Disney Animated Feature of all time.

It was definitely pretty bad. I took my niece to see it a few days after it was released and the theater was empty. It was so erratic that she couldn't follow it very well. She ended up being more interested in her bag of M&M's than she was in the movie.

However, the music was wonderful. I think KD Lange did the theme....beautiful!

Yeah I saw it in the catalog too. But it wasn't worth the extra cost of shipping and handling to preorder it. Though I wouldn't have minded the lithio for my collection.

my 2 little ones loved it just loved it.
I thought it was cute not one of the best but better than the fox and the hound.

This will likely generate some discussion. Below, I've graded all of the Disney Animated Features (with some exceptions.) I've taken out the "medley" films from WWII. Also out are Pooh and the two Fantasia films. I excluded the films done by Walt Disney Television Animation (Return to Neverland, Jungle Book II, Piglet Movie, etc.) What's left are just the single-story feature films. Flame away!

I bought Home on the Range but after reading these posts decided to rent before opening it. Ya'll owe me $2.12 because we enjoyed it, and look forward to watching it again. We thought the artwork was rich and well designed and understood that this storyline of cow's rising above their bovinity would not be particularly deep. We had an udderly fun family evening tonight with this movie and a pizza pie.

Overall, I don't think HOTR is by any means one of Disney's best, but at the same time, I don't think it's one of their worst!

It's a cute movie. I did buy it (pre-ordered it from Disney.com, because the store wasn't doing the orders and I wanted my litho, dang it! )

Artistically, this WAS an achievement. Those backgrounds, and effects animation were GORGEOUS. Those backgrounds were so rich, and so lush, and I loved the way the camera moved around certain set pieces.

Casting? DEAD on. I loved each and every choice. Yes, even Roseanne. Who better to play a washed up celebrity? Judi Dench is one of my absolutely favorite actresses. She is amazing. And Jennifer Tilly was the aways clichéed, yet very enjoyable comic relief, along with Cuba Gooding, Jr.

Writing and story? This is the one where I think they fell flat. The whole premise of the movie was somewhat outlandish, and no amount of good writing could get them out of the plot mess.

Musically - lovely! Glen Slater is a worthy contender to be a co-writer with Alan Menken. His lyrics are witty, ironic, and just plain funny. I didn't like the way the music was incorporated into the movie, however. All of the songs were top notch, and among Alan Menken's best work, but if we're going to have a musical, have a musical! Let the characters sing. Only one of the few songs was sung by the character. The rest were mood pieces.

I don't feel like I wasted $20. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I liked it a lot in the theater and bought it on DVD the day it came out. The art is beautiful and reminds me of the olden days. And I love the trippy-dippy hypnotized cow scene. I do agree that Disney needs to get over their fear of doing another full-out musical, though.

Greg, interesting concept, rating the movies.

I've always wondered why people are down on Hercules and Pocohontas (and Hunchback, for some). Better than C movies, with some classic scenes and great music.

Man, did you really put Robin Hood as a C? No it is not A+, but a notch below. Great characters, great story line, great songs, only problem is the animation is not Disney's best. Still an A though...but the Black Cauldron should join Oliver and Company as a D.

There is no way one can do a comprehensive "grading" of movies because no matter what one person thinks about a movie there is always going to be someone else who will disagree or think differently. One can only do a list of how THEY feel about the movies.

Good ratings. I tend to agree. My only difference is to knock TP up a to B+ , Pocahantas up to B, and Emperor down to C (didn't like much).

I know we're not including Pixar, but I give Incredibles an A+ and I've only just seen the trailers

Lilo & Stitch deserves atleast an A for artwork alone, not to mention the fact that they actually portray young women the way they ACTUALLY look!!!! And Mulan showcased the bravery of women....it deserves to be right up there in my book!
