Home for the Thespians

So auditions for Sound of Music are Wednesday. Pre-audition freak out is taking place! Well, a little. Even though I'm a freshman, I've decided I'm auditioning for Leisl. What have I got to lose? Most of the front-running seniors aren't auditioning because they don't like the director, and I've got a pretty good shot against the remaining people. I don't have my heart set on the part, though. I did that last year, and I was pretty sad when I didn't get the part I wanted. Lesson learned. Anyway, I'm pretty prepared for the audition, but of course I'm getting butterflies. Luckily, they are usually gone during auditions due to some weird quirk I have. Wish me luck! By the way, any updates on any other shows?

In September, I have callbacks for Willy Wonka, and an indie-rock Rapunzel! I'm super excited! Wish me a broken leg! :)

Break a leg both of you! Hope auditions/callbacks go awesome! All I've had for updates is that our director is moving our auditions a week later because of when school is starting and Labor Day being there. Well and I've started buying stuff to give out as a Senior Angel this year (not exactly related to the show but still big in my theatre life )

We're doing Alice in Wonderland this fall. I'm trying out for an acting part and for set design.

Looking forward to being on the crew of Almost, Maine (I chose not to audition because I couldn't put my heart into any of the characters, plus I feel like I've developed an "It's all about the actors" attitude so being on crew again will be good for me I think). I've got Variety Show auditions on Thursday, and I need to keep working on Grandma Rose's rap my audition for The Wedding Singer in December. Gonna be so awkward yet so hilarious.

and after Alice in Wonderland we're doing some kind of dinner theatre show, which I may try out for, and Hairspray, which I'll probably try to get set design again because for some reason Hairspray just doesn't excite me. Maybe because my school did Grease last year and it wasn't as good as some of their other shows.

But I'm really excited this year because I had theatre today and my teacher, who's also the director said I had a good voice. TWICE. Now i I can just find a good song for my voice just in case.......

I need a monologue for tryouts tomorrow, so I'm doing the narrator's piece in the begiining of Beauty and the Beast.

I've always wanted to do set design but to much math and handywork. :sad2:

I'm already used to the handywork. I've moved set pieces before and decorated set pieces and made props. It's just going to be on a larger scale now I'm in high school.

I don't know if this counts, but I'm going to be in our back to school variety show with a friend of mine. I'll be singing and my friend will be playing guitar.

*Sigh* So auditions were Wednesday, callbacks for Von Trapps and Rolf on Thursday, callbacks for adult roles and Leisl were Friday. I was called back both days. The first for Leisl, the second for Leisl and the Baroness. Cast list Tomorrow. FREAKING OUT. I honestly have no idea what role I'll get. I feel pretty good about the audition, but who knows. The only role they announced as cast was Rolf. It happened to be my brother's best friend, so that was cool. Still, I find it annoying that they announced one role, and made the rest of us wait until Monday. But that's just how our director rolls. :headache: Everyone with auditions coming up, break a leg! :goodvibes

No updates on our actually shows (auditions in two weeks) but my other theatre news/rant that needs sharing:

Our theatre department is planning a trip to NYC for spring break this year which is obviously amazing! We are gonna sight see and attend the Broadway Student Summit where we will do workshops with real Broadway actors/directors/etc! :yay: And we just found out one of the shows we are gonna see is Anything Goes and have a talkback with the director and producer!!!!!!!! My friend and I almost screamed when our director said that!

But I must add my small rant-ish cause I need to share my sadness...I just saw that Hair is back on Broadway and got SO excited that I might see it again. And then saw that it closes in a week... :sad2:

So, I thought you guys would like to know that I didn't make it. I did have some schedule complicatins though.

On a happier note, I am reading Wicked, and it is turning out good so far.

So auditions were this past week for our fall play, Once in a Lifetime - audition on Wed, callbacks on Thurs (where I literally read for probably half the named characters in the show at some point - including lots of dudes). And when the cast list went up on Fri I found out that I got the lead!!! I've never been so excited in my life and now I'm extremely pumped to actual start rehearsing
