Home for the Thespians

I love some of the shows you've all done! We don't usually do the more popular shows at my high school (since almost every other school in the nation does them), but I'd love to be the mom in Next to Normal or Mama Bear or Fiona in Shrek the Musical. As for HTSIBW/ORT: I love that they put Daniel as J. Pierpont Finch. He's a fantastic dancer, and I love his American accent; it's so funny! He has a great prescence on stage. I won't find out what we're doing for the 2011-2012 season until the first day of school, but I don't mind. I'm going to be a junior, so I might have a better chance at getting a solo or a dancing role! :)

Yay! Found the thread again! :goodvibes Just updating: Auditions for our first musical of the school year (Sound of Music) will probably be in 2-3 weeks. Hopefully I'll get over this stupid, everlasting cold by then. :headache: Since we were on the topic of ideal roles, I would love to be Cathy in The Last Five Years. I've recently been listening to that soundtrack a lot. I wouldn't mind being Draco in AVPM or Hermione in AVPS, but obviously, since they can't even sell the soundtracks, that's not happening. It's nice to dream though! Anyway, how have all my thespians been? Updates on auditions/performances? I've missed this thread!! :)

My school is doing The Sound of Music this year too! But the auditions aren't until November since the show is in February.

Anyway, I just finished performing in Pirates of Penzance. It was fun, but we had to perform outside and it was really hot and my dress was thick xD

I couldn't find our old theatre threads so I figured I'd just make a new one cause I have huge news that I had to share on here.

We had our theatre picnic today where our director announces the season for next year. Our fall play is "Once in a Lifetime", which we are excited for but not important. We found out our musical next year is going to be...BEAUTY AND THE BEAST!!!!!!! Our entire theatre department is going totally crazy today cause we are all so excited for it! I'm gonna be working my butt off all summer getting ready so I can try to be Belle since she is one of my favorite princesses since I was little! :goodvibes

Anyone else know what they are doing next year for show yet?

I was in Beauty and the Beast a few years ago. I got Cogsworth because I was to timid to try out for Beauty. Then we did Suessical the Musical and I got Horton the Elephant and I think I did pretty well. There aren't many people in my school who can sing, and usually the try outs are based on luck and your age, but this year they based it on actual talent.

Yahh! My haven away from the current MM is found!

Last fall, I was in a play that wasn't Romeo and Juliet, and my character was named Juliet. You can probably see where this is going. So anyway, everytime I would bring it up, they would all be congratulating me on making a starring role in Romeo and Juliet, and I'd have to explain it to them. After I explained, they weren't so excited or impressed that I made a starring role. It kinda put a downer on it.

We did Midsummer's Night Dream last year, and I was Helena. I loved that role. It was SO fun...

I got to see a show last night that had 41 songs from Thoroughly Modern Millie, West Side Story (I used to have a crush on the guy who played Tony and I got goosebumps every time he sang. He was amazing...), Wicked (I didn't like the Elphaba that much but the Galinda was really good), Phantom of the Opera (the Christine was SUPER talented) and Les Miz (One of my BF's was Eponine and she was INCREDIBLE). Overall, it was really good, especially for such a small theater.

I'm bummed because my BF and I had a hunch that we were gonna do Sound of Music, but I just found out that we're not doing it... :(

Whoo doing Shakespeare! I was Ross last year in Macbeth. And if you're not doing SoM, what are you doing?

I just found a karaoke version of "Freak Flag" from Shrek the Musical on iTunes. Looks like I'm ready for musical auditions in December.

I don't know... but another theatre nearby is doing SoM and our director has an unspoken rule that she won't do what another theatre is doing... :confused3

We did that show my Freshman year! I was Puck, it was a wicked fun show (:

Oh, Puck... <3 Such a great character.

That makes sense. We usually have a similar rule, unless someone else decides on the show after we did (which has happened a bit lately it seems).

We did have that rule, but our director changed it when she decided the play we were going to do was too hard. :sad2: We ended up doing Annie, which was the same play the local theatre was already doing.

I'm jealous of the shows you've done :thumbsup2 Canceled because of a comment? I'm sorry. Why? Was it made during the show or something?

It was made during the show, and although the line "they'll never get the chocolate cake out of that couch" may seem harmless, a girl ran crying from her seat and people didn't stop laughing for about five minutes.

Turns out that girl had done some... less than intelligent things that were less than apropriate and most of the school knew

This year, our fall play is Almost Maine and our spring musical is The Wedding Singer! The theme of our season is iDrama (all of the shows were developed around the time of the iPhone, hence the name of the season).
