Home Depot, Lowes or Lumber Liquidators for flooring?

We're replacing our carpeting in the family room and entry hall with wood laminate flooring. I've had both Home Depot and Lowes come out to measure so I could get an estimate. Lowes is $288 less than Home Depot. I chose an 8 mm piece the normally the same price at each store but Lowes was having 10% off sale. (Bruce and Armstrong were the brands) I was just going to go with Home Depot even though it was higher because I liked the type I chose there a little more. I just found out a Lumber Liquidator store recently opened in our area, so of course I had to throw a third choice into the mix!:) We went to look and I found a 12 mm piece I liked for .10 sq ft less than my other choices. The brand was Dream Home - never heard of it....a store brand?? So, price of laminate in all 3 stores is close. I have read the higher mm, the better. I have a measuring estimate scheduled with Lumber Liquidators for next week so I can compare.

I haven't heard a lot about Lumber Liquidators as far as quality/service. A search on the internet showed a lot of negative reviews. Of course, Lumber Liquidators' site shows the majority of reviews are positive.

If anyone has used LL, what was your experience like with them? The salesperson at LL told me I would be surprised at the money I would save with them over HD and Lowes (I told him I had quotes). Is it really that big? If I could get the 12 mm at a lower price than the 8 mm I would probably go for it...but won't do it if the quality is less.

Any/all opinions are appreciated.

Thank!:)

We are dealing with Home Depot for carpeting as we speak. We get installed on Monday.

So far, I am NOT impressed.

You deal with YOUR Home Depot store, an "estimate" company, and the installers. All three have a different story.

We had a minor issue and it has been a disaster, I'd hate to see what happens with a REAL problem!

From my personal experience, I will NEVER use Lowe's or their flooring department for anything ever again ... we had them install a ceramic tile floor for us in our home and it was a complete disaster :headache: ... we were also going to have them install some laminate flooring during the same time, but I am soooo happy we decided to go with an actual flooring company instead (we liked their actual flooring better) because if Lowe's had done it, we know that it would have been a total disaster too :sad2: ... also, as a result, I would be VERY reluctant to use Home Depot also ... actually, to be quite honest, I probably wouldn't use Home Depot either ... I really don't know anything about LL or how they operate, so I can't give an opinion on them ...

If you can, I would go to an actual flooring store who is experienced and specializes in flooring ... and who also has their own employees and does the entire job - from estimate to install - for themselves ... I think you may even be surprised that they may not be all that much more expensive ... and I know you will probably be happier with the end result ... :)

We bought carpeting and vinyl flooring from Home Depot and had them install it. We were so pleased with the whole experience and the end result. The guys who measured and installed were clean cut and professional. No problems at all and will definitely use them again for the rest of our flooring needs.

Now we just bought and had delivered an appliance from HD. We probably will not do that again. That was not a good experience. I guess the departments vary in their service, as well as the quality of the services between the Home Depot stores.

We have used Lumber Liquidators twice now and never had a problems with them. We bought real hard wood floors from them, installed them ourselves and saved a ton of money in the process. We would not hesitiate to buy from them again.
