Holy smokes! I need help deciding!

I originally booked our 2009 trip for August but when the new promo came out, I changed it to May. So, instead of making our ADRs in February, I now have to make them in November.

We aren't real "adventurous" eaters. Like to be able to identify the food on our plates. Our son will be 12 and is a bit picky...doesn't like sauces, gravies, etc.

But, we do like to try something new each trip and are thinking about the following restaurants. Dinner would be our choice of meals.

Ohana
Chef Mickey's
Yak & Yeti
Brown Derby
Mama Melrosa's
Cinderella's Royal Table
Tony's Town Square
The Luau (forgot proper name)
Whispering Canyon
1900 Park Fare

Thought you guys could chime in with your opinions.

I think Chef Mickey's would be a good choice. The food is all pretty straight forward, no wierd, unidentifiable stuff. Plus it is a fun, festive place.

Have you given any thought to the Prime Time Cafe at the Disney Studios? Very simple, good food, like fried chicken and meatloaf. And my family had a ball with out "Cousin" TJ serving and picking on us. He sent my niece to the bathroom to wash her hands, and then said he was going to send out a search party when she was slow coming back. It was great fun!

I've never eaten at Ohana's but I've heard they give you different dipping sauces for the various courses, I'm not sure if your son would be much into that or not.

Chef Mickey's is a great choice, nothing to worry about for picky eaters there.

I'd swap out Tony's for Tutto Italia, they have much better food and a bigger selection.

Whispering Canyon is a good choice but make sure to not get a late lunch/late dinner ADR. It seems like some of the servers get a bit tired and calm down later into their shifts which takes away a lot of the experience.

Just remember, as of now no reservations are able to be made past March 22nd. The exceptions to this are CM, CRT & V&A, where the 180 (or 180+10 rules still apply). The new system is not expected to be up and running until mid December.

There is a sticky at the top of the Restaurant Board with all the current information.

From your list, CM and 1900 PF have pretty basic foods. I would also give 50's PTC at DHS a try--meatloaf, pot roast, fried chicken, etc. Instead of Spirit of Aloha, try HDDR. It's a great show for all ages and also great homemade type food--cornbread, ribs, mashed potatoes, baked beans, fried chicken. This is one of our favorite, comfort food meals.

I'd skip Mama Melrose. I thought it was pretty bad and it's hard for DD12 and I not to be pleased in a restaurant. I haven't tried 50's PT but want to on our next trip. I'd switch MM out for that one instead. We also weren't that impressed with the food at Sci Fi, but the burger and onion rings were decent. I'd even go with that over MM.

The other choices all look good. Chef Mickey's, 1900 Park Fare and Whispering Canyon were all good for us too. Even if you aren't an adventurous eater, Boma is still good and has "normal" food as well as some other type of foods. I love love Boma dinner buffet. Teppan Edo is also an option. The chefs are entertaining and you can still get steak/chicken with veggies on the grill.

We did the Spirit of Aloha Luau at the Poly two years ago and loved it!

The food was decent enough (and I am a picky eater), DD had a fair selection of kid's choices, and the show was great.

We have not done all of them on your list but would definately recomend Ohana. You get some of everything and is not not nearly exotic as some make it sound. We love Mama Melroses but the chicken Parm is their best dish which will have tomato sauce. Buffets are straightforward. we are doing Yak and Yeti for the first time in a few days. Enjoy your trip, good luck with your choices.

I think your restaurant list is quite good, and you can get standard fare at most of them. Much of the food at food at Y&Y does have sauce, but maybe they can serve it on the side for your DS. Do you think your DS will like CRT? My son liked dining here when he was quite a bit younger, but age 12 is kind of pushing it IMHO. Then again, maybe 12 yo boys like dining with princesses for a different reason than 6 yo girls do.

If you do try Prime Time--GET A CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE!! (i am screaming out of shear excitement at the fact I am getting one in a few weeks). They have hand dipped Milkshakes that are absolutely divine-Sci Fi doesn't even come close. We are trying Whispering Canyon, Coral Reef and Tusker House for the first time this year. I have never been to Ohana but hear about it all the time. There is always next year, right??

So, can someone tell me how the new ADR system works. How far in advance can you book your ADR's?

There is a whole thread about the new ADR system, so that might help you. Right now, you can only book through March 22. The "word" is that more dates will open up in December, but keep checking the first page of the thread for updates. We are waiting also, going in April, and I always have my ADRs done at 180 days, so this is crazy. You can go ahead at the 180 mark with CRT, Victoria & Alberts and Chef Mickeys. Good luck!!

Chef Mickey's very, very good and great characters!
Yak & Yeti only ate counter service here and it was delicious, so if it's anything like it then, yum!

I had to change our vacation dates because our daughter will be coming home from missionary college during the same time we were to be in WDW! Since the program is so intense, she only gets to come home three times a year.

Needless to say, we put off our vacation by a week so we could visit with her.

Now, we are going to the World May 28th through June 6th.

When I spoke to the Dinsey castmember today, he said their new ADR system should be up and running in a couple of weeks.

Hope more of you can offer your opinions on my restaurant choices.

Ohana - Yummy, fun atmosphere

Chef Mickey's - Ehh..Breakfast is a little above OK. If youre not into meeting the characters, I would skip it. I would skip all together for lunch and dinner. Most of the thrill is the little kids meeting the characters.

Yak & Yeti - Never been..going in about 2 weeks

Brown Derby - I personally prefer Prime Time in DHS. Fun atmosphere, decent home cooking. Brown Derby has good food, but not entertaining compared to the others in DHS.

Mama Melrosa's - Not a fan. Very average food..a smidge better than Tonys Town Square

Cinderella's Royal Table - Food is good. Not sure I would spend the $$ or 2 meal credits if I didnt have young kids...actually, maybe I would. CRT is a big part of Disney World. Great Disney experience and memory of the trip.

Tony's Town Square - No way...For lunch in MK, I prefer Liberty Tree. For dinner, I get out of MK! (Looking around I dont see any Epcot restaurants on your list. Are you skipping that park? They are best for dinners)

The Luau (forgot proper name) - Spirit of Aloha (yes, I call it the Luau too). One of my favorites. I go our first night every trip. I love being entertained and getting in the vacation mood. I also dont have to keep a table conversation going with the family as they are all watching the show. After traveling starting at 4:00am, with flight, drive etc..Im pooped and dont feel like talking to anyone..just relaxing! This could be the same for any long day at the park. I would recommend this to everyone!

Whispering Canyon - Your son will love it. If you like tex/mex food, you will love it too.

1900 Park Fare - Ive only been for breakfast. Its one of the better buffets in the "World".

With all that said...of all on your list, my sister would go to Brown Derby and possibly 1900 Park Fare for breakfast. She would skip all the others.....so....Its REALLY all a matter of YOUR taste and YOUR opinion.
