DH was on his afternoon run and he was chased and bit by a pit bull! :scared1: He was in a neighborhood and the dog charged out of a yard after him while the owners were outside. They didn't really respond until his running partner started yelling at them:confused3. It broke the skin in 3 places and made him fall down. He went to urgent care just to have everything checked out. Really he's ok but come on people control your animals! I told him he had to call animal control because if it had been a child (like DD) the dog could have done a lot more damage. He doesn't want to get the owners in trouble but if that dog bites someone else I couldn't live with the guilt. I love animals, I'm a vegetarian for crying out loud but sorry Fido we are reporting this!

omg how scary! And how lucky your DH was for it not to be worse!

I love all dogs, including pitbulls, and it's also hard for me to get someone in trouble even when they're in the wrong unintentionally, but yes I agree you have to report this. You could prevent a potential tragedy if you report it. My heart breaks for what may have to happen to the dog, but it would break much worse if some innocent person like your DH got maimed or killed in a situation like this.

I can't believe that urgent care didn't report it. I got bit by my own dog a year ago (my fault) and I'd had a visit from animal control before I even got home from ER. I had to agree to quarantee him for a certain time. Which I guess meant don't let him roam the the street which I don't anyway.

That little pup in my signature was sound asleep looking so cute that I reached down to nuzzle his neck. He was startled, snapped and shredded my upper lip. Gosh that hurt. He was so traumatized by it that he sat in the corner and shook for about 2 weeks.

I would call someone. The police non-emergency number? Animal control? A lawyer? I dunno.

There is a store nearby on a farm, and they sell horse supplies and tack. The farm has a GAZILLION dogs (she's a bit of a self-proclaimed "rescuer", the owner). Anyway, they have one old dog in particular who stays in the tack shop all day long, while the other dogs are outside frollicking. That old dog (some kind of shepherd mix) has bitten TWO of my clients and attacked me today.

The kicker is the dog attacked me right in front of the owner's 30-something year old son. He called the dogt off as I was being pinned against a wall. I explained to him that his dog had bitten two of my clients (who were shopping in his store at the time) and he said "Ah, he's just an old dog and probably a bit senile and don't see so good anymore".

I explained to him that he is likely to have a lawsuit on his hands in the future from someone who gets really hurt. that store always has kids in and out buying things for their horses.

I was SHOCKED at his non-plussed attitutde. Gonna have a nice long chat with his mom and dad (the farm/shop owner) on Saturday when i have to go back to the farm for a horse show.

I'd file a police report, call animal control, and file a claim under their homeowners insurance at least to pay for medical care. I don't believe in all the lawsuits we have in our society today, however, I also believe that certain things are unacceptable. I don't suggest you sue these owners for pain and suffering however, they have a responsibility to safely restrain their animal. This was not done, they need harsh consequences to stop this from happening again. You need to hit them where it hurts and that is the pocketbook. Also just imagine if it was a child that the dog went after, this can't go unreported.

They may report it. DH didn't get home from urgent care until almost 10 pm. He called Animal control dispatch when he got home but they were closed. We will try again in the morning. Our brother-in-law is a police officer he said that urgent care has to report it.

That's crazy why would someone allow a dog like that around other people? If you want to own an aggressive (or senile) dog that's fine with me but keep it in a fence or in your house.
DH said that when the dog's owners finally came to his aid the woman was apologetic so they are aware of the situation. I mean I don't necessarily want the dot put down or anything but the owners have to take responsibility and make sure nothing like this happens again. Like I said DH will be sore for a couple of days but really he's fine. If the dog had attacked our 3 year old it could have been major.

A beautiful little 5 year old girl was mauled and killed by pit bulls a couple weeks back in SC. I wish there were laws against this breed.

I'm glad nothing worse happened.

When stuff like this happens I think the owners should be in a heap of trouble.

Awful. This is why people NEED to put their dogs on leashes, or dish out the cash to either get an invisible or a regular fence. If you can afford a dog, you can afford an invisible fence. :headache: People who aren't responsible this way drive me absolutely insane.

OP, I'm sorry about your husband's injury.

My daughter has a pit bull that is the sweetest animal. Never has snapped or barked at anyone. Dogs are like kids in that if they are brought up properly they will behave properly.

That's what most of the owners say whose pit bulls have attacked someone. Never has snapped or barked at anyone until it tears some poor child's face off. :sad2:

OP hope hubby is ok. that is scary.

I also wanted to say, I clicked on your blog, you guys are and adorable family! beautiful!

Maybe you mentioned this but what about proof that the dog has been vaccinated for rabies? I'm sure the dog doesn't have rabies but the stakes are far too high (a matter of life and death!) to not get proof. Surely urgent care mentioned this?

I'm so sorry that happened to your DH.

Exactly. It is just disgusting. I don't care how nice your (general you) kid's pitbull is, if it decides to maul someone, I hope it is someone from your OWN family, then you can't blame bad ownership. They are just bad dogs, and need to be winnowed out.

I'm having some minor plactic surgery repair to my lip damage, and the plastic surgeon told me about one of the worst bite cases he ever had.

Two drunks come home from a bar (sounds like the start of a joke doesn't it). Owner says watch out for dog and staggers back to bed. Other guy see this massive doberman on the couch where he was supposed to sleep, but a tiny poodle in the chair. He decides that it would be better to move the poodle and use the chair. The little poodle attacks his face and both upper and lower lip look like they have been put thru a paper shredder.

The other drunk comes out screaming not the poodle - that's the one I meant for you to watch out for.

Please please please contact animal control regarding this!!!! That dog is a danger to others, if no steps are taken and this dog attacks a child it would be heartbreaking.

If you do not hear from animal control tomorrow please contact them!!!! It is very important that AC knows this has happened. Our neighbor's Pit killed our cat, crushed her to death (the vet thought she'd been run over she was so crushed) in his mouth. We found out after this that he'd done it before. It was not a fun thing to deal with....after the dog killed our cat he chased me multiple times, AC finally took him away and he was deemed a dangerous dog. I had small children at the time, my main worry was if this dog would kill my cat and chase me what was keeping him from going after the girls? I can't even imagine how that would have felt.....please, please, make sure this is reported and documented!

I hope your DH is ok, it's not fun to be bitten by a dog. DBF was bitten a while back, by a dog that he knew very well, it wasn't fun.
