Holy Diagon Alley Batman!

Word on the street is that the wait for Gringotts was down to 90 minutes today. It sounds like they are starting to work out the kinks.:thumbsup2

And on a side note...Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is a great film!

DD texted that she waited about 100 minutes yesterday in early evening. Much better than the 4 hour guestimate given by CMs earlier in the day.

I liked the first three Planet of the Apes films from the late 1960s/early 1970s. The final two in that series sucked. Maybe some year I'll borrow a free copy of the current film from the library.

Don't watch a lot of TV in our house at all. However, I thought it was worth mentioning that ABC had a Harry Potter marathon this past weekend. All weekend....
Apparently even Disney loves HP ;)

I LOVE Harry Potter, and I'm so excited to visit Diagon Alley that I could cry, but no ride is worth a 3-4-5 hour wait to me. Nothing. That's why I won't be going to DA until sometime next year, hopefully

Well

I have honestly not seen a single Universal ad since January. I do watch home and garden, but not for the last couple of months. Never saw any during World Cup either. It looks like, to my dismay, I'm going to have to drop the no tv media axe I have been carrying for a while!

It is showing a 210 minute wait right now with the single rider line not open.

Single rider line closes when it is full and opens again once it empties out somewhat. This ride sure is popular even with the posted wait times!

Yeah, I've read today that the waits were low yesterday because half the state of FL was watching The World Cup. "Popular" doesn't begin to describe it. ;)

Here is a major spoiler video showing the entire POV from Gringotts. I personally refuse to watch any of them because I want to be totally surprised when we ride it the first time. I thought it might give some of you some sort of "intensity factor" to decide if you want to ride it or not.

OMGOODNESS! I watched the video and then the one with the Hogwarts Express and one of Knockturn Alley. Now guess what website I am off to, to plan a trip? LOL Those videos did me in, I have go to go check it out for myself.

Have any of the UK visitors here (or anyone else!) been to the Happy Potter Studio Tour in the UK? How does it compare to Diagon Alley for example?

We were planning to go next week, but our middle son, who has just hit a big Harry Potter phase, said he would rather not go. He feels that the behind-the-scenes stuff you see there would spoil some of the magic. The day after he said that, we saw video of Diagon Alley and decided we'd rather spend the money there. (The studio tour is super pricey!)

I suspect WWHP is more of a place where kids (and adults) can indulge in the fantasy, whereas the studio tour gives more background on the movie-making itself.

I've been to the UK one and it's absolutely fantastic. Diagon Alley was great and it all ends with a real jaw dropping moment. I imagine the US one is a whole lot bigger etc - but the attention to detail in the UK one was staggering in fairness.

It was ABC Family channel ... and they show weekend Potter movie marathons at even the most vague mention of the Boy Wizard or his creator in the press. Have done for years now. It's kind of funny ... JK Rowling will hit a publication date for one of her middling post Potter books, and ABCF will drop a marathon the weekend after. Never seems to fail. Of course, you knew they'd have the opening of the new attraction at Universal locked down. They spent a bunch of money for the non-premium cable rights to those movies ... may as well make some of it up when you can.

That's why I made the 1st statement. For all I know they do it every weekend. :confused3 Wish I would have known beforehand, we jumped in on #4 Goblet of Fire I think and only watched a few mins. It's one of those series I want to see from the very beginning. Although I saw the 1st 2 when they came out on DVD, I need a refresher or some cliffsnotes apparently.

I don't blame them for trying to cash in on all the HP/DA hype going on right now, I imagine there were lots of potterheads tuned into ABCF last weekend.

Have you read the Cuckoo's Calling or Silkworm? I wouldn't call them "middling". They're great British detective stories!

They're fine ... but there are a LOT of truly excellent British crime novels out there. Check out the work of JK's friend and neighbor Ian Rankin if you want to read some exceptional crime novels.

The nice things about those, although you need to deal with commercials, some of them have extras that weren't seen in the theaters - not sure about the later ones though.
