HOLY CRAP REPORT FULLY COMPLETELY FINISHED!! Photo Pass secret revealed!

Now i should mention Kelly really doesn't buy alot for herself ever so for her to buy more than one thing was a festivus miracle.

Festivus is only a few weeks away. It is time to start preparing.

1. "Get the pole out of the crawl space". Or go out and buy one. Remember, it should be aluminum, due to the "very high strength-to-weight ratio". Remember, "it requires no decoration". Tinsel is "distracting".

2. "The tradition of Festivus begins with the airing of grievances." "At the Festivus dinner, you gather your family around, and you tell them all the ways they have disappointed you over the past year."

3. After dinner, it is time for the "Feats of Strength". Remember, Festivus is not over until someone is pinned.

It's that simple. No buying gifts, all you need is a pole. No excuses. After all, it's a "Festivus for the rest of us!". Have you started your list of grievances yet? :-)

Great Report so far, I'm already dissapointed that you have only 48 hours left. Maybe we should all send you back so you can continue to write.

And if you feel you must do the gift thing, The Human Fund are always in need of donations. Bank a/c details to follow..........

The picture of that white building is suppose to be "The White House" tipped upside down. You can take a tour inside and everything is off balance. They try to tell you the axis of the earth are off at only this spot in the whole United States. Guess what, there is one exactly like it in my state of Wisconsin. It is over in Wisconsin Dells, so I guess you can say the earth is tipped off it's axis in 2 areas of the United States. Personally-I like to call places like that "tourist traps".

Thanks for sharing-thanks for the picture of Jelly rolls too, I never saw the entrance of it either.

OhMari

The upside down building is WonderWorks......

..."the back story about how it got there: it was a science lab somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle, and a group of scientists working inside were trying to create or control a manmade tornado when it when out of control, picked up the building and dropped it here along one of the busiest avenues in Orlando. It's a wild story that fits the crazy attraction.Inside, the upside-down theme continues in the lobby, but after visitors pass through an 'inversion tunnel,' things are mostly right-side-up on the three floors where you'll find lots of high-tech simulators, computer-assisted games, and a variety of virtual reality machines and amusing devices help illustrate scientific principles while creating an energetic and unpredictable sort of fun. It's educational like a science center, but wacky like an amusement park too."

I'm still enjoying your trip reports and look forward to the next one. I'm not looking forward to them ending though!

that pic of the pool was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am convinced now that I am going to miss the WDW theming when we go to SOG this summer!@!!

I plan to do a DVC tour too...shhhh don't tell dh...

It has kept me chuckling and I cannot wait for the rest of it!

Great Pictures too!!

This is the second last post for this trip and I must admit this has been difficult. Initially when I started I was jazzed to be writing this but it's become somewhat of a chore the longer I've been back. It's as if my job is sucking the life and creativity out of me. Might be time to plan another trip, STAT!
For all of you who think I have exaggerated Katelyn's obsession with tinkerbell we just received in the mail this week a personalized signed Tinkerbell photo from Margaret Kelley herself. We thought it would be a nice Easter gift and hopefully give closure to this whole tinkerbell fascination.

Day 11

We awoke at our regular 7am and our morning was somewhat subdued as this would be our last full day at the World. Oh how the time flew by. Today we would be doing MGM Studios. After inticing Katelyn out of the bed with the promise of cooked bacon we started our day.

Staying at Boardwalk we are very close to MGM but I still preferred to just drive over to MGM as I knew we would take a midday break and it would be easier and faster to just drive back and forth.

It was always a bit of a chore to find our rental, there are so many blue Uplanders in the parking lots you just wander around hopelessley with your remote and hoping to hear your vehicle unlock.

We get to MGM @ 8:30am and it is another beautiful morning, the weather could not have been better for this trip. Kelly actually got through the finger scan procedure with no hassles this time.

We get our picture taken because we love this Photopass card, especially when you can get the pics for free. Do we look a little burnt or just burned out?

burnt.jpg

MGM was very busy already today and i just attributed it to being a Saturday but then i realized all the rides were running and realized it was EMH at MGM....DOH!!! I should have known this if I was on the ball.

We went to Mickey's hat and got this picture that looks like the park is empty, it really isn't but I guess we got lucky no one was walking by.

alone.jpg

We went over and got our fast pass for TOT and headed to Star Wars. This ride shouldn't be done too early in the morning as it just made me feel sick, I was praying it would be over fast. The screaming women beside us didn't help either. It was 8:45am and she was screaming at the top of her lungs on this ride, if i did puke it would have been headed her way. On our way to Star Tours we saw that Indiana Jones Stunt show is cancelled because of a cheerleading competition....DAMN!!!!
We then start to notice cheerleaders....hundreds of them, maybe thousands, they were everywhere and seemed to be multiplying like the tribbles......'oh the trouble with cheerleaders'

We then headed to Muppets 3D. This is a great 3D movie and I'm pretty sure Sweetums coming into the audience during the movie was somewhat new because I don't remember seeing him come out back in the early 90's when i was there last. i may be wrong though. We checked under the mat coming into the theatre for the key and it wasn't there.
I didn't even tell them to pose for this, their my little photo monkeys....

dorks.jpg

After muppets we headed to the back of the park and the Power Rangers were just coming out. These guys have to have some hearing loss considering how extremely loud their car is, the big round thing on the back of the car is just one huge speaker.

speaker.jpg

I then decided we should do the Backlot tour since we were right there anyway. For some reason this tour didn't seem as fun as it did when i was younger. It was ok but i think it was missing stuff, I realize Lights Motor Action is kind of in the way now and takes most of the room but I think it might be time to change this attraction to something better. We wandered through the Honey I shrunk the kids attraction. This kid would not get out the picture no matter what....slide already dammit and get the hell out of my picture!!!!

kodak.jpg

By now our fast pass was useless, we weren't concerned as we had done RNR and TOT our second day here.
We headed over to Voyage of the Little Mermaid which is always good for getting out of the sun and relaxing, the Ursula costume is great.

After this we walked past Narnia, we had no clue as to what the Narnia attraction was so we waited in line for a few minutes then realized we could go right into Who wants to be a Millionaire so we did that instead. I so wanted to make it to the hotseat but was thrown off by this three year old beside me that kept stepping on my foot which made my fast finger a slow finger and almost a backhand.

millionaire.jpg

So we did get in line for Narnia after millionaire because everyone else was, we waited about 15 minutes and they cattle us into a room and it's basically a movie trailer and some women in white on the balcony and you look at some props and thats it!! What a total jip. If anyone is thinking about doing it, don't waste your time.

We then went into Walt Disney's Theatre. What disappointed me about this wasn't the movie, the movie was great and very interesting but the theatre was absolutely empty. I couldn't believe that the person responsible for this theme park couldn't draw a crowd to a movie about his life. If the movie was boring I could see it but it wasn't boring.

I also thought it was great how the person working inside the theatre is blind and had his guide dog with him and he leaves when the movie starts and comes back when it's done.
I noticed this alot, people with different impairments working at Disney and it made me love Disney even more!

By now it's around 1pm and quite hot so we decided to head back to the villa ;).
Kelly wasn't hungry so Katelyn and I headed down to Big River Grille & Brewing Works and ordered up a couple of Big Brew Burger's. These burgers were huge, come to think of it everything we ate in Florida was huge. The burgers were the size of Katelyn's head.
We ate them in our room so Kelly could help out with these monstrosities.

I logged onto Southwest.com and checked in online since it was less than 24 hours till our flight and I wanted to make sure we were in the prestigious A group when boarding.

After we ate half a cow and let it settle we headed back over to MGM for the Motor Car Parade. We found a bench that was occupied by a little old lady and she graciously shared with us. She was actually scouting MGM for when her grandkids come to visit. Her husband doesn't like the parks and would rather golf so she comes by herself and takes notes about everything so she can plan the perfect visit for her grandkids...how nice is that?

The parade was great except the characters didn't pay attention to anyone on our side of the street and since I was videotaping this I wanted some interaction caught on tape.

This guy is Kelly's favorite character, the driver was laughing the whole time so he apparently likes his job.....

bear.jpg

As soon as the parade was done we got some slushy things because Katelyn saw someone with one and said "I wonder where they got that?" which in teen language translates to "Can i get one of those?" The line was long so i figured I should get two, one for me and one for them since I was doing all the hard work of standing in line.

We made our way to the back of the park to Lights, Motor, Action. I give it two thumbs up. The wait to get in was crazy because I didn't realize you could use a fast pass there, the place holds 5,000 people and they have a fast pass option, who would have thought?
So we had to wait till all the fast passers went in then we were allowed to go in, I felt like a second class citizen at this point, people staring at us thinking "What a bunch of idiots, why didn't they get a fast pass?"
I videotaped this whole show as well so i don't get the fun of just sitting there enjoying the show without having any resposibilties, i can enjoy it now at home on my big screen so it's ok.

By now I believe it's around 5:30pm so i figured we better head to the front of the park to get to Fantasmic, we did take our time getting there and ended up at Fantasmic at 6:00pm. I'm in line to get popcorn and drinks and asked Katelyn what she wanted, she wanted Nachos which was at another booth so Kelly went into that line for her, would it have killed her to have popcorn?

We got seated and had great seats.....

fantasmic.jpg

Kelly and Katelyn were enjoying the food.....

foodinmouth.jpg

I can't say enough about this show. It totally blew me away. I was really looking forward to it as Boardwalk was close enough that you could hear Fantasmic going on at night and it sounded great. I was working the videocamera and Kelly was working the digital camera.

mickeyfire.jpg

mickeyfireworks.jpg

This was a Saturday night and there were 2 Fantasmic's tonight and we were at the early one. I wanted to stay for the 8:30pm one but we were all tired. We waited till the crowds left before we started to leave, Kelly was helping the staff pick up garbage while we waited for some reason.

We didn't rush out of the park because we knew this was it, the final theme park, it had been a long haul but we knew it was coming to an end so took our time.

We got back to the villa ;) and Katelyn headed to the hottub and Kelly went and made some calls and I watched illuminations from our balcony one last time. I didn't want this day to come but I knew it would. All the months of planning and saving and research had all culminated at this moment and I was sad. At this point I was determined that i would return, it may be a value resort the next time but I will be back!

Stay tuned for our trip home on Day 12 and the secret to getting free photopass pictures!!!!

:cool1:

Thanks! Sorry the job ~~boo~~hiss~~ is sucking it out of you! These have been great trip repots! Thanks!

Enjoyed this episode as much as the others. Sorry to hear they are coming to an end.

Another great installment! I really enjoyed it. Can't wait for the next one - sorry it'll be the last one though.

I couldn't agree more about the Walt Disney movie - it's really wonderful and made quite an impact on our boys - they were very moved by his story and appreciative of all his hard work and my 9 year old often refers to it still.

I love the photo of Bear in the car - I feel a bit guilty now though as he's my baby's favourite guy and we never waited to see the MGM parade. Somehow I just pictured power rangers and felt nauseous at the thought of watching them go by in their tight satin suits  but totally forgot about Bear. Next time we'll see it though for sure thanks to that photo!

Thanks again for entertaining us. :)

loving the report!

and this was too funny
... kept stepping on my foot which made my fast finger a slow finger and almost a backhand.
:rotfl2:

Enjoyed your whole trip report today - while at work, mind you ... can't wait to read the last part!

tick . . . tock . . . tick . . . tock . . . waiting for that last installment! I've enjoyed your TR so much!

Day 12 - THE END

Leaving the world is not easy. The morning we left I think I sank into a
depression. Knowing I was headed back to my job and the daily routine
wasn't something I was very excited about but it was inevitable. Our flight
didn't leave till 12:45pm and we were up around 7:30am so we have some time
to kill. The funnest thing we did that morning was to try and finish off
the leftover food we had. We didn't want the bacon to go to waste so we
HAD to finish it, as well as the eggs and bread and whatever else we had.
Katelyn won the eating contest.

After filling our faces Kelly went on a cleaning blitz. She didn't want
the housekeeper to have alot of work to do so she cleaned everything and
ran the dishwasher.

mopping.jpg

We started hauling our luggage to the vehicle so when the time came to
leave we would be ready. As I was pulling the suitcases up the sidewalk
there was a Magical Express bus come in and I felt absolute distain for the
people on it. Here we are finishing this amazing vacation and these people
would just be starting theirs.

I figured out there are five stages of leaving Disney and they are:

1-Denial-"this can't be happening to me, it feels like i just got here, the
trip can't possible be over!!!"

2-Anger-"why me? how can we be leaving and there are people that are just
starting their trip....damn them!!!"

3-Bargaining- "I will work for Turkey legs, i will juggle on the boardwalk,
I will clean up after Pluto.....ANYTHING!!!! I just don't want to
leave!!!"

4-Depression - "life's so unfair...one day your at Disney and the next your
back to your daily grind, why can't my whole life be Disneyesque?"

5-Acceptance-"well there's nothing I can do, I have to go home and get back
to my life, we had a great run but now it's over......BUT I WILL BE
BACK!!!!!"

As we were pulling out of the Boardwalk parking lot for the last time all
that was in my head was that Green day song...

"So take the photographs, and still frames in your mind
Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time
Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial
For what it's worth it was worth all the while
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life."

We stopped at the Hess station right out front of Boardwalk and I'm glad I
did as I didn't see another gas station before the airport and I needed to
return the van full or pay a ridiculous $6 a gallon charge.

Orlando could really hose tourists when they leave if they wanted by
putting in a $100 toll on the way back to the airport, what choice would
you have but to pay it.
We missed the exit for the airport and had to go quite a bit further down
the road and pay a couple of extra tolls i didn't want to but o'well.

We finally made it to the airport and the car rental return is very quick
and painless, you pull up, they scan the vehicle's barcode thats on the
dash and they check the gas and they print our your receipt and your on
your way, 30 seconds tops....

Our flight was uneventful and this plane was bigger than the one coming
down so lots more leg room and comfier seats. We were in a somber mood on
the way back which is to be expected when leaving Disney. After departing
the plane and walking past the next group of people waiting for the flight
I hear "Smile, your in Buffalo" yippee

We took shuttle back to hotel and loaded up van and stopped at Krispy
Kreme's because Canada is lacking in the Krispy Kreme department. The Tim
Horton's juggernaut won't allow for other donut chains to succeed in this
country.

We stopped at the duty free shop (I like to stop at the duty free shop) and loaded up on beer and liquor and
crossed the border back to gool ole Canada...our moods changed when we hit
our own soil, we were now excited to get home to see our cat and sleep in
our own bed.

I wanted to not stop and make it all the way home because i wanted to see
if I could make it all the way home on the same tank of gas I started with at home at the beginning of my trip. When we saw a Wendy's though Kate practically yanked the wheel to stop so she could get her fix.

We made it home around 8pm Sunday night March 12th and our cat let loose on us with non stop meowing all night long.

The feeling was almost surreal being home, it felt like the whole Disney trip was just a dream. The longing to go back to Disney kicked in immediately after we came through our door, I so wanted to call Gil at Saratoga and dive into becoming a DVC member but then I realized at this stage in my life it would be foolish.

Most of my friends have never been to Disney and don't understand the sheer magnitude of this magical place. How do you explain Disney to someone that's never been? It's not just a place but more a feeling you have inside of you. I've never felt like I did when I was at Disney. It is purely magical. I'm sorry that I didn't make this post very funny but on this day coming home I didn't find myself very funny, and there wasn't any escalators to get caught in.

Prior to this trip it was a tough decision whether or not to get the meal plan but let me tell you now I am so glad we didn't. We were so busy everyday that to sit down for a large meal over and over would have felt like a chore to eat. If doing your trip commando style I would say just grab some grub on the run and maybe have one or two sit down Disney meals.

Also for those people that are going soon, I say skip Universal Studios but definately do Islands of Adventure if you have tweens with you, if you have little kids skip Islands of Adventure. Do not miss Seaworld, Seaworld was probably my second favorite park of all right behind Epcot.

Accept the fact that your kids will b in every picture you take no matter what, kids love their picture taken and there isn't any getting around in, even if your just playing around and try to take a picture of yourself your kid will sneak their face in there somehow....Katelyn did anyway.

sneak.jpg

If you get a place with a kitchenette get lots of breakfast stuff but don't forget the little things like salt and pepper.
Also buy a couple of cases of water and leave a bunch of bottles in the freezer so you have cold water the first part of your day at the parks.

WEAR SUN SCREEN!!!
I didn't and my head burned and washing my hair in the shower felt like someone was drilling right into my head.

The best advice I can give is HAVE FUN
Don't let the small things bother you, don't get frustrated. Afterall you have saved up for this vacation and it is a VACATION from all your stress and worries back home. Be kind to your family and have a magical experience as we did.

Secret to Free photopass pics............
ok this isn't that hard to figure out so i feel silly even telling you this as I'm sure alot of you have stumbled across this. I'm sure everyone has tried to right click on the picture and try to save it but you get a popup saying "Right click is disabled"

All you have to do is hit printscreen when the picture is on the page then open MS Paint and Click Edit and then Paste and the whole page is on the screen. Then click on the select icon on the left and stretch the window around the picture. Click edit and cut and the picture will be on the clipboard, open a new paint window and click edit and paste. The picture will be there. You may have to trim it down more depending on how well you did cutting out the picture initially. You can then save the file as a jpeg, gif or bitmap, whatever you want.

Hope that helps someone!!

M-I-C talk to ya all real soon

Thank you so much for the fabulous report. I enjoyed every word. I hope you, Kelly and Katelyn get back there soon or, if not soon, I hope you can at least enjoy planning the next one.

I was speechless reading the following.......

This is exactly how we felt when we got home. :( I knew, of course, that we'd be on a downer but I was totally unprepared for the sheer trauma almost of trying to adjust to being back home. Which is probably why we're going back (despite our certainly that our trip last year was a one-off). Going back again is probably not the most financially responsible thing we've ever done. :bitelip: But, it's a strong force drawing us to it.... we'll be at BWV too in a 1bdr. Your place looked gorgeous!!! Wow!

What you said about Universal is interesting. I didn't like it very much at all last year. I can't think of any definitive criticisms but it just didn't seem to have any atmosphere at all, not good, not bad, just kinda soul-less compared to WDW.

Thanks again :)

I have tried print screen for years and it never worked. Technically-I have no clue what you read, but I am good at reading directions-so I saved them. Thanks, Glad you finished.

Thank you for sharing your magical experience with us! I could feel your pain upon returning back home. Part of the fun is in the planning and anticipation, so gear up for your next trip, be it next year or longer. :thumbsup2
