Holy cow!

DD dragged me to see Pirates in 3D a couple weeks ago (actually the day it opened) in Downtown Disney. I was surprised that the theater wasn't even full! Maybe no body else wanted to pay the extra price for 3D!

Yep...I remember pricing out tickets to see Toy Story 3 in theaters and realizing it would cost my family of 6 nearly $100--and that's without getting any kind of drinks/candy/popcorn!

We haven't seen a movie in the theater as a family since 2006! Just not worth the $

DD12 and I saw POTC4 on Wednesday afternoon in 3d, it was ok. I paid 3.50 each extra for the 3 d thing. I'm not a real big fan of 3d, even though back in the day i liked Jaws 3 in 3D lol.

I've seen a few movies in 3D but imho I don't think forking over the extra cash is really worth it. I have to wear glasses though, so wearing the 3D glasses over my normal ones makes for an uncomfortable experience.

I'm a tightwad by nature anyway, so anything over the $5 AMC matinee price is generally too much. The only movie I've paid 3 times that to see in 3D was Tron, and that was totally worth it. The next one I'm planning on shelling out for in 3D is Transformers.

I wouldn't pay 15 cents to see any of the POTC movies - I can't stand Johnny Depp.

You didn't like Christmas Carol in 3D Zip? I thought it was really cool, especially the snow scenes, and some of the scenes, inside Scrooge's bedroom for example, it was almost like you could feel the textures of the fabrics.

I did think Pirates 4 in 3D was pretty much a waste, though. Thor was seriously cool in 3D if it's your kind of movie in the first place. I like action, eye candy (Thor...yum yum) and special effects, so it was a win for me.

It's $3 more for 3D here, added on top of what I already think are ridiculous prices to go to a movie. I really don't see how families can afford to go with any kind of regularity. Well...actually around here it seems pretty evident that they can't, because our movie theaters are usually ghost towns. We have a habit of arriving when the previews are already going, and have wide open choices in seating. The next town over from us actually still has a drive-in, and that's a lot more affordable for us so we prefer to go there when the weather is actually nice enough to want to be there.

I love 3D technology, but did not think it was great with Pirates 4.

I plan to see Harry Potter about 20 times in 3D!!!!!!! :woohoo:

Did you like the movie ?

DGF and I seen it last week and loved it.

I liked it, but not as much as the other three. World's End was my favorite. I am not a Penelope Cruise fan. Not sure why. There is just something about her that bugs me. I missed Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightly and their banter with Jack.

Other than Jack, there wasn't really anybody in this one that really appealed to me. No bond.

I won't even pay $10 per person!~ :goodvibes

Fortunately, we don't go to movies as my oldest has some sensory issues and hate movie theaters. He loves plays, so we do those. Our local children's theater has school tickets (and homeschoolers can go) for $6 each! :thumbsup2

Now, see, I found the scenery in Pirates to be beautiful in 3D. The court scene made you feel like you were sitting IN the courtroom. There were no old 3D effects like things flying at you or swords reaching out to you but it really made a difference. One time when they are looking through a cave, it felt as though you could really see it from the actor's pov.

It was that way with Alice in Wonderland too. The fall down the rabbit hole was really good in 3D.

I am really looking forward to HP in 3D.

Also, someone asked about liking the movie (Pirates). It was different with different characters but IMHO, there was more of the Jack that we all loved in Pirates 1. And there was less fighting and more storyline. Not all the special effects from the 3rd one. He and Penalope Cruz were in "Blow" together and had chemistry there too. I think they are really good together although I don't usually like her.

.

As I remember, I did think Christmas Carol was a bit more interesting in 3D than Toy Story 3. Still I thought it was a bit pointless and a money grab that I wish I had planned well and avoided.

Having said that, I don't mind Hollywood offering us a choice. If 3D floats people's boat then that's fine by me so long as they leave me the 2D option

I saw Pirates 4 in a 1940's vintage theater with about as low tech of a projector and screen as you could imagine. I really enjoyed it in that setting. The cartoon before the feature, and old timey ads for snacks, the well preserved and restored decoration and architecture of the building all went a long way toward making it an ideal place for me to see Pirates 4.

I especially missed the 2 pirates who in the 1st one captured Elizabeth at her house, their characters seem to have progressed through the other ones. but i guess they are on the Pearl-not giving spoilers away. Barbossa, he always makes me laugh, i adore Jeffrey Rush. Keith Richards, good gracious, i know it sounds weird but he looks better as a pirate then he does in real life.

sounds very cool . i still miss our drive in that was torn down years ago and now there is a super walmart there and it freaks me out going there.

 I have to agree about Keith Richards.

I had forgotten about those two pirates! And I agree, I hope they are on the Pearl with the monkey Jack. I did notice that the English 1st Mate (I think thats what it would be?) was still there. He was always so impressed with Jack Sparrow, I keep expecting him to turn pirate.

See, I thought he was in the other one. hey if Norington kind of did it-I miss him, he looked so much better all rough up then in the 1st one. then the other one might.

Blackbeard, wow he was right on target with having parts of his beard smoking. we are actually having a blackbeard festival in a nearby city this week that I may go to.

I admit that I am usually out of the loop, but this just floors me.

Last night, DD, her friend, and I met up with some friends from out of town to see the new Pirates movie. My visiting friends wanted to see the movie in 3D. I went to buy the tickets for the three of us and was totally surprised when the guy told me that it is $5 extra per person to see a movie in 3D. The tickets were $10 each to begin with. No way am I paying $15 per ticket to see any movie!

We ended up seeing the regular show and my out of town friends went to the 3D.

I have never been to a 3D movie, but I just can't imagine it is worth paying that much extra. That is just my opinion, but I doubt I will ever see a 3D film at that price. :confused3

I took my daughter to see Pirates last week in Imax 3D and for one adult and one childs tickets it was 37.50!

LOL sometimes living in the sticks is a good thing
our local theater regular prices are 7.50 for 2D and 8.50 for 3D

we always go during the day and pay $5 for 2D or $6 for 3D.

and it is a first run regular theater just like the expensive ones :)

I feel your pain though OP, we went one day to a matinee at a different theater, one in another town connected to a mall.
and I think it cost me for a 3D movie $12 each.
which was a shock to me since I am used to the measly $6 each LOL!!
