Was it me or did the price of food go up in Disney? We know its usually pricey but wow. Dh asked for a paper cup with ice so we could split our bottled drink between ds1 and dd2&1/2 and was told $2.55 extra for the cup. Yikes.

This is the first I've heard of charging for ice water, or in this case just ice. Has anybody else been charged for a cup of water or a cup of ice?

Where were you when this happened? A cup of ice/ice water is supposed to be free. For that price you could have gotten a drink.

We were at the Pop century eatery 2 days ago when this happened. I'm 6 mo ths pregnant and bc it is so hot this week down there I was downing ice cubes like crazy. I know ice water is free at quick service so I asked a few times at the parks with no problems. Dh was the one to ask while we were at pop and was told $2.55?!?

My guess is because it was at the resort food court. They probably figure anyone asking for a cup for ice water are really going to fill it with soda since it's a fill your own cup.

There must have been a misunderstanding here, or a very misinformed cast member because water/ice cups are definitely free. But yes- food prices have gone way up over the years! We had no problem with this at the AoA food court.

My husband said he was very clear about having bought a drink from the refrigerator area and wanting to split it between the kids and the cashier said Yes sir that will be 2.55 my husband said his shocked look was followed by "for a cup!?!" And the cashier replied "yes, 2.55 for your extra cup" lol um...lol
Now correct me if I'm wrong bc I didn't buy the cup for the fountain drinks,( the one with the chip) but I thought the new fountain area only works with that special new cup? No?

YES, that is probably right. I have never been charged for ice water at the parks and my daughter drinks a lot of water:) At the resorts though may be different because its serve yourself and you could easily fill it with soda or juice for that matter. I hope they do not charge for ice water in the parks!!!!!!

When we went in Sept and they had the machines with the chip cups. At the resorts you have to ask for a water cup. (Those cup have no chips in them) You can still get water with out the chips in the cup.

They told me you have to be really specific that you just want free water.

That is odd. I mean it was in June when we stayed at Pop, but I got an extra cup for the same reason. I had a bottle of Apple Juice I'd gotten in the park and not finished and I was going to pour it onto ice to finish it. She just reached down where she was and gave me a different cup. i want to say it was clear and smaller than regular ones. Our resort mugs were in the room so I didn't have them as we got right off the bus and went to the food court.

I really do think the CM was wrong to charge him.

I think the CM was confused or new. I didn't recall when I posted earlier that the cups were chipped. Which makes a big difference now as you can't fill the cup with soda without a chipped cup. So a regular paper cup isn't going to get you anything but ice and water.

The CM thought he wanted a cup for soda. The cups for ice/water are different.

The CM defiantly must have thought he was going to use the cup for soda!
You now have to be very specific and say you do NOT want a chip cup you want the free water cup without the chip,
Due to the fact many people at these food courts was filling drinks without paying, anyone who asks for a spare cup will now be offered one at cost!
If you say you want it for free water they will give you the plain smaller cups.

Yep what she said. Even the paper cups have chips. They have to in order to work. He was charged for a chip cup.

Yes, this is the way it is. He must not have made it as clear to the CM as he thought he did. I would definitely have cleared up that misunderstanding on the spot.

Which is pretty silly if they thought about it. Wouldn't it be better to give people the water cup, even if you think they want to go sneak soda, so that they realize their plan has been foiled and have to slink away (or come back and pay)?

BEFORE it was all chipped, sell them the cup. But now that you cannot get soda without a chipped cup, why default to selling? Why not amuse yourself by watching sneaky people try to get soda with a water cup?

Maybe it's best I'm not a CM. :)

We were given free cups of water everywhere we went last week (small, medium, large). This was true at snack stations (that served fountain drinks), Starring Rolls, Sunshine Seasons, Contempo Cafe, BOG, Caseys (during MVMCP), etc...I think some of you have been drinking too much eggnog...or the CM have. We bring water bottles, and fill them with the cupped water.

I love the way you think! I would stand next to you and watch sneaky people. Maybe even video them and make a music montage of sneaky people. And then put it on Youtube.
