Holy cow, airline prices jumped

We're going to AZ April 30th. I got mine and my husband ticket (in a Priceline package w/the hotel) for $773 ($537 of that was the airline ticket). I bought my son's 4 days later for $597. I checked today and they are up to $771 and if we left as orignally planned a day later it was up to $887 from here. Holey cow!

Must be the gas prices?

Airlines are so freaky- I have been checking prices from Balt. to Orlando every day and finally today my ticket prices went down. I can't figure any rhyme or reason.

Airline prices change from day to day. I always pick a range for the price I'm willing to pay per ticket and start checking everyday (I know our travel dates about 9-12 months ahead of time usually)...since DH is a little picky about airlines..I don't have that many to go through..ttravelling as a family he'd rather spend an extra $20pp to fly Delta than SWA since there are assigned seats. I must mention that I live alot closer to WDW than you do in Alaska so we can drive if airfare would kill the budget so we have a little room to play. I have hit awesome fares 6 months out and 3 weeks out..no rhyme or reason...just luck and perserverance.

The main reason is due to the increase in fuel charges. The airlines have to pass that on to the consumer otherwise they will be bankrupt.

A 1 cent increase in fuel cost will cost over 30 million a year. It really stinks. Right now, fuel costs are the highest they have ever been and are still going up. AMR (parent Company of AA) reported a loss in the 1st quarter of 161million. This was a HUGE improvement over last years 1st quarter loss of over 1billion. We still have our work cut out for us.

I wish the prices would remain constant but they cant. All airlines have all been working really hard to keep costs down but it isnt helping. No one wants to pay higher prices trust me, but should the airlines absorb all the costs?
