Hollywood & Vine - has to be the worst!

You guys have to do a review on Hollywood and Vine. We ate there on our last trip just last week. It was awful. You guys have to do a review on it - I think it would make for some great laughs. The rice was not cooked enough, pasta was bland, etc. I swear I could have cooked a better dinner! The only thing that was okay was the dessert. Our waitress never smiled and rolled her eyes when we asked for drinks. Plates were stacked up all over our table - it was really a joke. The waitress never even acknowledged my FIL's 70th birthday (he had a birthday button on). To make things worse - we used our DDE card and had to pay an 18% gratuity. I did not think this waitress deserved such a high tip. She was truly awful. Apparently, she did not even wear her own name badge for some reason. I will never eat here again.

Gak! That sounds terrible! Our family came close to eating there last time we were at the studios. Now I am glad we went to the Brown Derby. I was so great, I fear that experience will never be topped!

We ate there for lunch and it was great .... except for the waitress. She was just awful and it spoilt our experience there. But other than that no problems.

I had a very negative experience last time I went. I'll have to see if I can dig up my post from a few years ago.

I know you want Kevin to go do a review, but I can't support that with a good conscious. That's like saying..."this is awful, try some!".

Great I have an ADR there this week!!! I am going to go anyways, haven't eaten here yet and I have a goal to eat in every restaurant and sleep in every resort!!

I will report back how it went--I will be sure to ask for a Manager if I have similar experiences!

I'm sorry you all had a disappointing meal.

I had a completely opposite experience. We dined for the Play n' Dine @ Hollywood n' Dine. We made ADR's for the last breakfast sitting, and got to enjoy both breakfast and lunch. I though the food was pretty good, not 5 star, but I've had worst on property. The restaurant was uncrowded and the characters visited often. My son loves the characters, but at the time my daughter was afraid of them. Without even asking, the waitress informed the character handler that my daughter was afraid, then told us to let her know if she seem to get a comfortable enough to meet the characters. When the characters took my son out to dance in the restaurant, the waitress took my daughter and danced with her, so she didn't feel left out. She was really great.

My husband's only complaint was that the drinks didn't come often enough, but in the waitress' defense, my husband can drink a lot! With her kindness to my daughter, I completely let her pass on that one. I wish I could remember her name now.

We are going again this December and have the same ADR time, I'm crossing my fingers that she's still there.

Sorry to hear about your experience!

We ate there last August (Fantasmic package) and we all got food poisoning. Ugh!

The people at the next table were having issues too. They spent more time in the bathroom then at their table!

It would take A LOT to get me to ever go there again.

I'm finding this thread very interesting. I have a Fantasmic Package and this was the only place we could get. Now I kind of understand why.

I know that every one has different taste for when I see a review about bad food, I take it with a grain of salt.

I get a little more nervous when they start talking about food poisioning and horrible service.

My question is, are people complaining while at the resturant? Or just on the board. It seems to me like Disney would want to know about the service issues.

I have to chime in here. I am NOT picky to say the least. Very rarely do I say anything bad about a restaurant, it has to be terrible! Hollywood and Vine is AWFUL! It is the only restaurant at Disney that I will not go back to! It is completely overcrowded, service is terrible (I think we only saw our waitress upon being seated and when we had to hunt her down because we were ready to leave), the food is bad...cold and stale. We were there while the characters were there and only 2 of them ever even made it to our table and we were there for well over an hour. Don't waste your time/money at this place!

Needless to say, we did not see Fantasmic that night.

We've been there twice -- most recently on 8/26 and it's been great. I enjoyed the wide selection of salads/entrees and always enjoy the desserts. Our server was very attentive. Both times our reservations were around 4:30 pm...maybe the service gets less than stellar as the evening wears on?

We ate there in March for with the Fantasmic Dinner package because our daughter is not a fan of Mama Melrose. I have to say we will NEVER go back. The food was not very good and the service wasn't any better. Thank goodness we didn't sick like one of the previous posters! I would advise anyone to steer clear and can't even imagine asking Kevin to force himself to eat there! RUN Kevin, RUN!

I've found dining at Disney restaurants to be like gambling in Las Vegas. Win some, lose some. Although lately the odds seem to be favoring "the House" (aka Disney). I'm sure Hollywood & Vine is no different.

I think we'll still keep our ressie for this upcoming weekend. It's like DW said, we want to sleep in every resort and eat at every restaurant. Besides, this thread has peaked my interest. It's kinda like when you see a wet paint sign......you know you have to touch it just to be sure. I now feel I NEED to eat at this train wreck. We'll post our review upon our return. If we survive that is.

I just got back from WDW last night. I haven't been for four years and I definitely noticed a decline in food quality and service. I'm not sure if things have gotten worse or Kevin has just made me more aware of the details I would have overlooked before. I never ate at H&V. Whenever we're at the Studios we always eat at the Brown Derby. It's one of my favorites. Great food and great service. This trip we ate at Crystal Palace, Columbia Harbor House, Chef Mickeys, Raglan Road, Artist Point, Akershus, Rose & Crown, Chefs de France, Kona Cafe, Brown Derby, Earl of Sandwich, Boma (Breakfast and Dinner), Ohanas, Biergarten, and Le Cellier. The best was Boma by far (especially dinner) followed by Earl of Sandwich, Columbia Harbor House and the Biergarten. Can you believe two of the best were counter service/fast food? The best character meal was definitely Crystal Palace. Hopefully, you had some good meals to balance out the bad ones. At least, next time you know where you won't be going.

And we had a waiter at California Grill last time we ate there who had a different name tag on. We knew this because he had been our waiter on a previous trip and noticed he had a different name. Why don't they want us to know their real name?

I want to know this too. My husband looked at her name badge and said, "oh...you are from...(I think it said Columbia or something). She said, "no..it is not my badge."
I am thinking maybe she lost her badge and they have to wear a badge as part of their unform. Anyone know?
