What is going on at Hollywood Studios?

I have been pleasantly surprised with the attention to theme and the updates that have been done at New Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom and on the Disneyland side with California Adventure. Everything seems to be coming along great and am excited about Avatarland coming to Animal Kingdom. I know it is controversial, but I'm sure it will come out great.

That brings me to Hollywood Studios. I don't know what has gone on in the past couple of years, but since MGM, the park has really fallen out of favor with me. There are 6 rides in the park. And of those only a couple are crowd pleasers. There is the ugly Sorcerers hat and the themeing just don't flow well with each other. Disney Parks really needs to focus some energy on this park with updated attractions, better themeing and design. I would be all for a Pixar Place expansion, a Star Wars Land or something comparable.

That hat is the first thing that needs to go. Next I would say is the backlot tour which has gone downhill. I understand Disney is working on the Seven Dwarfs coaster and Disney Springs, but this park needs some TLC.

And while I have to say HS clearly needs the most attention, Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom and Futureland in EPCOT also needs som TLC.

Sorry for ranting, but this is one thing that has been troubling me both as a stockholder, a Disney fan, and a frequent park guest. :mic:

Hollywood studios time for upgrade will come eventually. Disney is focusing on Avatar, disney shanghai, and my magic+. Star Wars is also where disney would most likely go I don't think we would see a Pixar place. This year marks the 25th anniversary of DHS. The hat is something that you either love or hate we have no say in the matter with that tho thats all disney. The backlot tour is actually loved by many but that is where an expansion would go most likely. A lot of people still like DHS due to its more thrilling type rides. It also has shows and a lot of over looked areas. I for one love the disney animation area where I can learn to draw my favorite characters. They also have disney junior shows that attract a lot of the toddler crowd. The park is still doing well it gets well over 7 million people a year. An expansion project at MK is probably not going to happen for a very long time since new fantasy land. After avatar, next would be DHS, then Epcot. I think then disney would way there options and see what's available but they really don't need to do anything major. MK gets over 17 million, Epcot 10 million and AK/DHS over 7 million. All four parks doing better than competitors. What we want as disney fans and customers is different than what disney wants as a company that is looking to make money.

Yep...DHS is a mess. I still love it(hey I'm a WDW FREAK okay?) but yeah...it's one mixed up place. Future World at EPCOT is becoming a bit pathetic as well. Something needs to be done with the abandoned Wonders of Life, the ridiculously outdated Ellen's Energy ride, dark spot on Soarin' film...etc.

DHS is slotted to get Star Wars Land somewhere in the near future. That is a pretty heavy subject of debate around here.

I agree with you though, and I strongly believe that DHS needs a new studio to take it over in order to be successful...even though Disney likely has a bad taste in their mouth from MGM. I hold on to the pipe dream for a collaboration between Disney and Warner Brothers. Rumor is they're working together for a Lord of the Rings deal, and I still say DC is going to work its way into the theme park industry eventually (let's not talk about Six Flags, let's be serious) to compete with Marvel's presence. In Orlando, Marvel will never be in a Disney park, so DC seems like it would be Disney's way around that and compete with Universal's Marvel in Orlando. But, this is in no way supported by facts and is my own little conspiracy theory.

DHS needs work, and I get the feeling it is next in line behind AK. I think we'll see Star Wars Land sooner than later, and that will make DHS rise to the top pretty quick. It's no secret Epcot needs some work as well. That's another subject of heavy debate here.

I don't think so -- consider this...

Warner Bros. is the studio behind the mega-successful "Harry Potter" franchise.

Warner Bros. parent company (Time Warner) also owns the stable of characters from DC Comics, and the movies based on those properties.

Presently, HP is in full-swing at Universal, while various characters from the DC franchise are scattered at Six Flags parks around the country.

It would be quite an undertaking, but I could see USF getting access to the DC Universe (but first, Warner Bros./DC needs to have a slew of highly-successful DCU films, which, to date, has been a "hit or miss" affair).

Any acquisition of DCU characters largely hinges on the financial health of Six Flags. As I haven't visited one of their parks in a few years, I can't objectively comment, except for the fact that SF is currently in litigation over last year's fatal roller coaster accident at Six Flags Over Texas.

Should any acquisition of DCU eventually happen for USF, USF would then likely let go of the Marvel/Disney contracts, and re-theme with DCU characters (with many of them being household names).

This is the one park I continuously skip every years. Orlando , I go about 1 time every five years and each time I go I say I'll give it another try in five, hope it's better then

I am still hoping for the PIXAR Studios to take over HS. There is a huge amount of material to take from for updates, and Disney already owns it all and it keeps with a lot of current theming. As much as I would love to see it, I do not believe there will be a Star Wars land. At most I can see a Star Wars Adventure show taking over the old outdated Indiana Jones Stunt Show. I would also think that a Star Wars resort would work in the future, the treehouse villas would easily retheme to an Ewok village. Lol

I would say that's looking less likely...

With the exception if toy story... Pixars movies have been underwhelming and have seemed to have less broad/lasting appeal since Cars...

It doesn't seem likely they they will put major things in based of Pixar until they reel off more megahits

They should connect it with their past by having a Mickey mouse ride and micke y mouse club cafe.

That is not documented whatsoever. The source of your comment was a throw-away "teaser" from Iger where he made a vague, non-commital comment that Star Wars attractions were "on the horizon."
