Hollywood Studios, not going to book Fastpasses and it seems wrong?

We are headed to WDW March 4-8, and Friday March 6th will be our HS day.

I am close to our FP window, but I don’t think I’ll book any fastpasses for HS.

It’ll just be my 7 year old son and me. He is too small for the big rides, and the only thing that’s left is SDD and that’ll be gone according to the Dibb.

I have our day planned, and we don’t need any fastpasses....but it feels as if I’m wasting them or something.

The rest of the days, we will be using them.

Thoughts?

So you’d rather go to HS with no fp’s? What will you do there?
You wouldn’t try to get a fp for Toy Story Mania, Star Tours, or Alien Twirler?

What kind of day do you have planned?

As a note, while SDD was originally gone on my booking day, I was able to get it a few days later for a mid-afternoon FP.

I guess I don't understand the logic for booking no FPs at all. Like PP mentioned, FPs for Star Tours, Alien Swirling Saucers and Toy Story Mania will still come in handy. Those wait times can get long.

If those rides aren't your speed, you can also book FPs for the shows and you'll be permitted to enter the theater first. You can also try booking SDD - we have had success with booking it 60 days in advance.

No, not into those rides. We’ve done Buzz Lightyear and assume TSM would be about the same. I think Alien Swirling Saucers is too jerky and swirly for us.

This will be our second time at HS, so we plan on taking it slow and enjoying the atmosphere, etc this time around. We will have been at AK after hours the night before, so a mid day break will be needed for a nap!

Here’s my idea:

Be at the gate by 7:30am for a boarding group for Rise of the Resistance opening at 9

9am - Mickey Railroad at Rope Drop

Buy Popcorn Bucket

Meet Chewbacca at Star Wars Launch Bay

Boarding Group for Rise of the Resistance

11:35am – Lunch at Minnie’s Seasonal Dine at Hollywood & Vine Fantasmic! Seating

Head back to resort, by 12:30pm-ish

3:30pm – Head back to HS

Snack Kat Saka’s Kettle
Pop Corn Cart for Refill

4:30pm – Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run

5:30pm – Galaxy’s Edge / Pictures / Shopping / Snack / Dinner

6:30pm – Seating for Fantasmic!

8pm – Fantasmic!

I’ll keep checking back for SDD, and if we get it I’m sure I can squeeze it into our day 😊

Toy Story Mania is signficantly better than the Buzz Lightyear shooter ride in Magic Kingdom. It's worth riding.

It seems like a very set day.
You've even scheduled your Star Wars boarding group before lunch. :hyper:

Remember to be flexible. You may get an early boarding group or a very late one. Also the railway is opening two days earlier. Maybe that will be a VQ? Who knows. I’m thinking this will cause HS to be even more crowded. Maybe HS will open earlier that week. Keep an eye out for that.

I would still make fp’s, even if you may not use them. You might be looking for something to do to kill time while waiting for your boarding pass and it may be very crowded.

Because they are there, not being used! I don’t know haha. I’ve always been a planner and FastPass day is like go go go! Just feels strange to not need them.

Yes, I was hoping for one in the afternoon, but I think we will be okay. Definitely flexible, not sure how the new ride will work. And watch there not even be a VQ by then for RoTR!

That’s very true about the fastpasses, great idea!

Maybe there will even be fp’s for Mickey’s railway. The opening is just a few days from the 60 day mark.

I would book anything outdoor FP in case it rains. If that occurs you will get return open window for something you might like to fit your actual day.
This past holiday week I couldn’t get any of the good FPs and got Barnstormer, Dumbo, and Aladdin Carpets kinda hoping for sprinkles. These are attractions I normally avoid. Well it did not rain but my gchildren age 12& 13 actually were surprised to discover how much fun they were, Love Aladdin more than Dumbo flying over the rooftops like Dumbo used to before they moved it

The only ride at HS that my 7-year-old couldn't ride was Rock 'n' Rollercoaster, and she is on the short side. Are you saying that your child isn't interested in ToT as well? As far as SDD, I can't really offer FP advice since it just opened when we were there. But depending on your window, it seems that if you are interested in the ride, you could always try to get it.

It’s a little too scary for him, unfortunately.

I see nothing wrong with your thinking. We are going Jan. 20 - 25 and I haven't made a single FP anywhere. First because we know we want to ride RotR so we know we are going to be going HS every morning before rope drop to get in and try to get a boarding group. Since we don't know what day we will actually be able to get on the ride, we don't know what parks we will be in after that. If we manage to get into a boarding group, we won't know what time that boarding group is until we get it, so again can't really plan. We usually only make FPs in advance for SDD and Pandora, all other rides we just book while waiting in line for other rides. We are seat of the pants Que Sara Sara type people.
