Hollywood Studios, not going to book Fastpasses and it seems wrong?

Your plan seems well thought out.
At minimum, I would get a FP for Fantasmic, it will save you some time.
Keep checking for SDD, as they do become available.
If there are any other shows you want to do, I would still get a FP for them as its your best guarantee to be sure to see them.

You could save your $ and not do a Fantasmic seating package and use a FP for Fantasmic. Unless you're doing that restaurant anyway.

Is there seating for Fastpass people?

I was kind of hoping for a dessert party, but they haven’t released March yet.

I agree with everyone else that Toy Story Mania is different and much better than Buzz. I would get a FP for that and Star Tours since it sounds like you are interested in the Star Wars things.

You can also play it by ear, as you are doing, and see what pops up on the fastpasses. You never know, character meet and greets etc. My daughter swore she wasnt intrested in meeting characters, we did a ton while there. You never know.

Toy Story Mania is NOTHING like Buzz Lightyear. It is 1000 times better!!! I refuse to ride Buzz because like a previous poster said it is lame and frustrating. TSM is one of my FAVORITE rides. How do you know you and your son won't like it if you don't try it?

I’m going to book a FastPass if I can snag it :)

Also some shows in the middle of the morning, and afternoon in case we are waiting around for RoTR or MMRR.

We are headed to WDW March 4-8, and Friday March 6th will be our HS day.

I am close to our FP window, but I don’t think I’ll book any fastpasses for HS.

It’ll just be my 7 year old son and me. He is too small for the big rides, and the only thing that’s left is SDD and that’ll be gone according to the Dibb.

I have our day planned, and we don’t need any fastpasses....but it feels as if I’m wasting them or something.

The rest of the days, we will be using them.

Thoughts?
I'd at least try for Slinky and if you can't get it, book for one of the other toy story rides...I agree that all current Tier 2 is a waste, but I'd still book at least 1 tier 1...unless you're planning on hopping to another park and booking 3 there.

Glad to see you are going to give TSM a chance! It's my favorite ride and not at all like Buzz! Buzz sucks and I wish they would redo it.

And the Alien Swirling Saucers is not jerky - it's milder than the Scrambler - found at many amusement parks. It operates like "The Whip" - a very old-fashioned ride you don't see much anymore. I was glad to see Disney mimic that ride mechanism in a modern ride.

Agree - definitely book TSMM for a 7yo its nothing like the ride at MK!!

Take a peek at the alien ride and then I bet you will want to jump on, either get a 4th FP+ or try standby. It moves in circles but it isn't jerky or spinny and its perfect for a 7yo boy (IMHO).

If you really don't want to use the other 2 fp+ book early morning shows and let them expire, this way after you ride TSMM (or slinky if you get one) and your show FP+'s expire you are eligible to book a 4th, 5th FP+ if available, one at a time for the rest of the day.

Using the above method we have always been able to book a fantasmic FP in the evening, you also mentioned the dessert party, this is a favorite of ours as well so hopefully they will be released for your dates!

Enjoy

If you make DHS your second to last or last day, you should find TSM FP's available, assuming you have the 60 day FP booking.

Is there seating for Fastpass people?

Here's a map from @Robo. The thread is here for explanation but I've cut and copied. Dont sit in first 10 rows if you dont want to get wet...aka misted. From @Robo at https://www.disboards.com/threads/question-about-fantasmic.3409519/#post-53649371 :

What a FP+ for F! offers is more CHOICE in seating.

If you DO get a F! FP+, you can choose to sit in either the FP section (virtually the entire left half of the theater) or the Standby section (virtually the entire right half of the theater.)
So, whatever section has the better seating at the time you arrive, you can go there.
Without a FP, you can only choose a seat in the Standby section.

There is a very good chance that you can get a FP+ for F! as a 4th or 5th FP of the day because they issue SO MANY of them (enough to cover nearly the entire left half of the seating.) On many nights, it is possible that you can gat a FP+ for F! as you are walking to the theater.

As to when to arrive at the theater, I'd get to there 45-60 minutes before the show-time.
Even with a FP or Dining Pkg. reservation, don't wait too late.
On busy nights, the CMs can stop holding the reserved sections within 20-30 minutes before show-time, and turn over any available seats to waiting walk-in guests.

There is sometimes a "pre-show" (such as it is) that can help pass the last 30 minutes before show time.

That arrival early for Boarding Group doesn't seem to be working now as it did earlier in the year....

Thank you to everyone who replied!

I've changed our plans, and we plan to spend the whole day at HS. March, park open is 9am, so it is doable. But also playing it by ear, and can always leave and come back.

I booked 3 fastasses for HS as soon as I could this morning, and of course SDD was gone. I snagged one for TSM, but just checked back and SDD was there! 6pm, fits in perfectly for after dinner in GE, so I'm excited! Never been to Toy Story Land, so looking forward to it!

Toy Story Mania is WAY better than Buzz! Seriously so fun. Buzz is a one and done for me, but I will to TSM over and over.
