Is there any way to find out if something is going on there that day? Park closes at 6 (as opposed to 7 the rest of the week) and the only sci fi dinner ressie I could find is at 4:05. All the days surrounding it have much much more availability.

Am I missing something? It would be our only day there and we've got a lot to accomplish. I'm starting to wonder if I should pick a different day.

Pick another day.

I don't know for certain but it's probably some sort of special event. It's the only night in January '15 that doesn't have a F! showing.

Which is why I thought others might avoid it and it would be good for us! Do special events in the evening affect crowd levels during the day?

Picking another day is gonna totally screw up all my plans. Bugger.

I sure hope so, I've picked that as our HS day for that very reason. I'll trade the last hour and F! in exchange for lower crowds and getting the kids to bed an hour earlier.

My thoughts exactly. But the lack of dining available makes me worried. Not about the eating, cause we aren't picky, just about crowds.

If there's a special event that night, do you have to leave right at closing (as opposed to lingering, shopping, etc)?

Does anyone have experience with daytime crowd levels when a special event is planned?

Depends.

Many of the events hand out wristbands that identify the invited guests,
and those who don't have the bands can linger but can't ride attractions.

But, on some nights, guests without the bands are expected to exit quickly at the appointed closing time.

Which will it be for you?
If you don't change your DHS day, you can let us know. ;)

Easywdw has HS as the most recommended park that day, so I'm guessing the special event crowds won't fully replace the people who choose a different park that day due to the shorter hours.

My only experience with a special event was MVMCP a few years ago. We were herded towards the exit around 7pm, right when the party started. We probably could have lingered on Main St for a while if we really wanted to but I don't think we could have shopped without having a ticket to the even.

ETA: I see an ADR for 4 at Sci-Fi at 4:35pm and Mama Melrose at 4:50, those are the latest available ADRs I found for the 26th.

Yes probably if it's a closed event for a conference, or a service award dinner for cast, or they decided to do something else that we aren't in the know about :confused3 So the answer is sometimes yes. They may never announce the reason.

These things happen periodically at DHS. Will it make the crowds lower that day due to the one hour lost at the end ? Highly doubt it

As Robo said " Pick another day " "Don't pick another day "
